Voters tiring of campaign, poll suggests

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor April 24, 2008 05:12 PM

As the Democratic campaign goes on and on, more Americans are panning the presidential race with the terrible trifecta: too negative, too long, and too dull.

A Pew Research Center poll released this afternoon said that 50 percent of Americans, including half of Democrats, believe the race has been too negative. That's up from 28 percent overall and 19 percent of Democrats in February.

The survey also found that 35 percent of Americans believe the campaign is dull, up from 25 percent two months ago, and that 65 percent believe the campaign has gone on too long, up from 57 percent in February.

Pew conducted the poll between Friday and Monday and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

  1. well no kidding. We have Hillary to blame for that. Which is why the DNC should have intervened already. At the rate Hillary is going, a whole bunch of us aren't going to even be voting in the fall.

  1. Actually, I blame the DNC for it. Hillary is like a child who wants what she wants when she wants it and how she wants it. As the adults, the DNC should have stepped in and handled the situation by now. If Hillary had been in the same position that Barack is in with the same stats, she'd have been declared the canidate by now. Guess there are some favors still owed out there.

  1. How should the DNC "handled" it? Doesn't Hillory have the right to run as long as she wants to? as long as she is willing to stay in it and still has a chance of winning (thanks to the DNC rules) she should be allowed to stay in.

  1. While Hillary has the right to run as long as she wants to, she must be made to
understand that it is the Democratic Party that is hurt by a prolonged campaign.
That doesn't seem to make any difference for her as it appears that she wants to inflict as much damage as possible to make Obama unelectable. But it is Hillary
who is unelectable. As First Lady, her first and main job was to maintain the aura of decency, dignity and pre-eminence of the White House. Under her watch and under her nose, a lot of funny business took place that brought the White House in
to disrepute with much damage to the Democratic Party. Why should the American
people trust her when the fun-kid, authur of the funny business, is still part of her?
