Clinton says win is a vote of confidence

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor May 20, 2008 08:22 PM

Hillary Clinton declared tonight that her resounding win in Kentucky's primary is "an overwhelming vote of confidence" in her candidacy.

"Tonight we've achieved an important victory," she told supporters in Louisville, Ky., after taking the stage with former president Bill Clinton and daughter Chelsea. "You've never given up on me because you know I'll never give up on you."

Clinton said she remains in the race to help America's struggle to reach its full potential, but also promised that Democrats will be united in the fall.

She also had kind words for Senator Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts, whose doctors disclosed today that he has a malignant brain tumor.

"He's my friend, and he's my inspiration," she said, listing the fights she has shared with Kennedy on healthcare and education.
