College Democrats back Obama

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor May 14, 2008 10:31 AM

Barack Obama's rock star-like reception among young voters has been one of the biggest stories of the presidential campaign.

So, it's not stunning that this morning, he announced the support of the president and vice president of the College Democrats of America, who are superdelegates. They pledged to help get their peers to work for Obama.

"We reached out to college students nationwide through Facebook, MySpace and YouTube and the responses were overwhelming. College students want change -- and Senator Obama offers an opportunity for all of us to move forward in this country to talk about the issues that matter," the group's president, Lauren Wolfe said in a statement provided by the Obama camp.

Added the group's vice president, Awais Khaleel: "As college students, we've come of age under the failed leadership of George W. Bush and we are excited that we finally have a candidate who speaks to our issues. Senator Obama is talking about the issues we care about as college students – whether that's college affordability or ending the Iraq war."

  1. I wonder if the uninformed and uneducated have any superdelegate representation? Looks like that would be Hillary's only chance.

  1. This is Fantastic news! This country needs the type of calm, balanced leadership Barack Obama will bring.

To quote one of the Battling Grannies from a few weeks ago... "The Whole World is Waiting."

I hadn't realized Obama started talking about issues.

  1. Obama is not black, neither is he white; he's both black and white like the keyboard and he sure will strike a harmonious tone in our polarized political arena.

  1. Wow, Boston.com's anti-Obama bias is pretty clear.

"Barack Obama's rock star-like reception among young voters has been one of the biggest stories of the presidential campaign.

You could have just said "This morning, he announced the support..." but instead, you had to add in the weasel-words "so, it's not stunning that..." That would be like writing an article about Clinton's win in WV and saying "yeah, she completely stormed the state. *But who cares? It doesn't matter in the big picture.*"

Although it may be true (in both cases), it is still a very clear indication of journalistic bias.

  1. Yep, I cannot wait to be subjected to the socialism brought to us by the Democrats (republican's not much better). Let's see what your country can do for us. Love to see polticians pandering for votes. I've got more "rights" as an illegal alien than you poor citizens.

  1. Rather full of yourselves now, aren't you, puppies! Sounds like you must have been legacies, doesn't seem like Affirmative Action would apply to you, and it sure doesn't seem like you would have gotten in via SAT scores. Perhaps you're freshman Sociology or Political Science majors in a small city college with no campus somewhere, with delusions of grandeur. Keep your jobs at McDonald's, may be the best ones you ever have.

    Go, Hillary! Lightnin'

  1. In fact, Obama is NOT black, not an Afro-American, he's an ARAB-American! He's 50% white (mother was 100%), 44% arab (father was 88%), and 6% black (father was 12%)! Does that sound like black to you? If he was 1% less white, and 1% Irish, in addition to being arabic and black, would you say that he was Irish? His father officially listed himself as arab, Obama's full name is arabic. Even if Obama should be elected (God forbid), he will still not be the first "black President", because he isn't BLACK! All this is is race-pandering, the democrats trying to get all the blacks to vote for Obama by declaring him to be the "first black candidate with a chance to be elected President!" Basically, they are lying to everybody to take advantage of the ignorant (not unusual for democrats), and you're buying it! If you don't believe it, why don't you ask Obama to deny it in public?

It has been conservatively estimated that if Obama pulls his ears back, he can get by with using just one earring for both!

    Go, Hillary! Lightnin'

  1. Obama himself has said that change will not be easy and will require sacrifices... let the charity begin at home... change the way Clinton and her cronies do business... sorry Ma'am Clinton, we don't want a fighter... we want a uniter that will create solutions that are win-win for the country. On that note, btw, McCain seems to have a better record. I will vote - Obama first, McCain second.

  1. This is the mistake some colleges and not all are making by playing politics in school instead of focusing to the main purpose their parents send them there is to get a good education for their future. No wonder most don't accomplish what they went to college for. Some are dragg into it by their piers simply for photo up on national TV news. The labor force or the backbone of industry in the nation don't endorse any candidate,oh yea the Union but only chiefs no indians.

  1. Change? You want change? Obama's blueprint for change mentions "expand (programs)" 54 times, while at the same time talks about cutting taxes for the middle class. Some change. Sounds like more of the same. Who are the fools that cannot see he is just a smooth talking, pandering politician? Well, they are the fools among us.
