'Curious George' comparison draws fire

Posted by Jason Tuohey May 16, 2008 10:07 AM

A T-shirt comparing Barack Obama to cartoon monkey Curious George is drawing fire both from supporters of Obama's presidential campaign and the publisher of the book series, Boston-based Houghton Mifflin. Click play below to watch the NECN report.

  1. I know someone is going to come on here and say they did this to W too, comparing him to Curious George or other monkeys.

    The difference is:
Those comparisons are judging the content of his character (W), not the color of his skin (Obama).

    End of discussion.

  1. So you can refer to W as a monkey and have an automatic free ride to shut"racism" if the same is dome to Hussein Obama. BS, What goes around, come around. The shirt looks just like him.

  1. Yes. I'd use a picture of a monkey to depict you too.

  1. I hope Houghton Mifflin Harcourt takes that jerk to court . Of course it is racist, and anyone who has even a shred of honesty understands exactly why it is racist and offensive.

  1. FYI: It looks NOTHING like him, caricature or otherwise. Racism is a deep-rooted disease and when we are finally willing to address it for what it is, we will grow as a species. Until then we keep dealing with a never-ending parade of STUPID!!!

  1. I THINK THAT THIS T SHIRT IS A SLAP IN THE FACE FOR SENATOR OBAMA,
HIS WIFE , AND HIS YOUNG CHILDREN.

THE SPEECH THAT HE GAVE AFTER THE REV. WRIGHT INCIDENT
SUMMED IT UP IN A NUTSCHELL. WE AS AMERICANS OF ALL RACES
HAVE STILL FAILED TO ADDRESS RACISM IN THIS COUNTRY.

SENATOR OBAMA IS SMART AND INTELLIGENT MAN WHO IS WORTHY
OF BEING THE PRESIDENT OF THIS UNITED STATES.

    GOOD LUCK SENATOR

  1. Lets see his Pastor is a racists and teaches racism. His wife is a hate America first person or if you can blame America for the worlds problems. He says our troops are stupid and are only in the service because they are to stupid to do anything else. He preaches we need to be socialists and hangs with people that are socialists and his favorite teachers have been teachers of socialism. One of the biggists things you hear about socialists leaders is their followers cannot take a joke or a critisim of their leaders. Just ask the people in prision in Cuba or the people under Hugo Chaves control or the people that follower Saddam Hussein. That stupid monkey has nothing to do with color or charter it has to do with humor, poor humor or not it is just humor. We have done more in this country to help people of all races than any other country ever. We have saved more people, supported more races and countries than any place ever. This Senator has done nothing for the races in Illinois but create more racisim in the city. He does have a wonderful education, how to create hate between people that work and people that think they deserve because they deserve. Curious, could be George. By th way Curious Grorge has nothing to do with color its a cartoon teaching children responsiblity, having a sense of humor and love.

  1. LM : End of discussion? Hardly! No, people have been saying that George W Bush looks just like a chimp (and he does), not that he has the character of one. Don't lie! And are you actually suggesting that monkeys are evil? Just because Obama is black (actually yellow) and Curious George is a monkey doesn't mean that he should receive an automatic shield from this. He looks just like Curious George, and there's nothing racist about it! If it was a white politician who looked just like him, you would be loving it and probably even help promote these T-shirts. Now it's the END OF THE DISCUSSION, HYPOCRITE!!!
