Hard work and barbecue
Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, even as they haggle over how to deal with record-high gas prices, are also jockeying over values and connecting with voters in the final days before Tuesday's crucial primaries.
In North Carolina, evening TV news viewers will see a 2-minute TV ad from Obama that is full of images of him meeting and listening to working people, and that tries to tap ingrained suspicion of the federal government.
"North Carolina values. Hard work, community, keeping your word," the announcer says in the ad. "There’s a candidate who shares those values, who thinks differently than those who’ve spent decades in Washington. Barack Obama."
"Politics didn’t lead me to working people. Working people led me to politics," Obama is shown saying during a rally in the ad (a similar version is also running in Indiana).
Clinton, meanwhile, is making sure that on the stump in North Carolina, she mentions something near and dear to the hearts of Tar Heels: barbecue. Chopped pork with a vinegar-based sauce (ketchup is added to the sauce in western part of the state) is the closest thing to state cuisine.
She is joking that she and Bill Clinton have had a great time eating barbecue from one end of the state to the other -- and trying to keep the news from his cardiologist.
Clinton told an audience in High Point, N.C., today that she will answer any question -- except who had the best barbecue.
"I've made a lot of mistakes in my life," she said, "but I'm not walking into that one."

The gas tax holiday is nothing but a give away to big oil. The consumer will see little or nothing and more than likely fuel costs will rise as a result.
My vote is for Obama.

HILLARY CLINTON CAN BEST WIN IN NOVEMBER:
It's time for everyone to face the truth. Barack Obama has no real chance of winning the national election in November at this time. His crushing defeat in Pennsylvania makes that fact crystal clear. His best, and only real chance of winning in November is on a ticket with Hillary Clinton as her VP.
Hillary Clinton seemed almost somber at her Pennsylvania victory speech. As if part of her was hoping Obama could have proved he had some chance of winning against the republican attack machine, and their unlimited money, and resources.
But it is absolutely essential that the democrats take back the Whitehouse in November. America, and the American people are in a very desperate condition now. And the whole World has been doing all that they can to help keep us propped up.
Hillary Clinton say's that the heat, and decisions in the Whitehouse are much tougher than the ones on the campaign trail. But I think Mr. Obama faces a test of whether he has what it takes to be a commander and chief by facing the difficult facts, and the truth before him. And by doing what is best for the American people by dropping out of the race, and offering his whole hearted assistance to Hillary Clinton to help her take back the Whitehouse for the American people, and the World.
Mr. Obama is a great speaker. And I am confident he can explain to the American people the need, and wisdom of such a personal sacrifice for them. It should be clear to everyone by now that Hillary Clinton is fighting her heart out for the American people. She has known for a long time that Mr. Obama can not win this November. You have to remember that the Clinton's have won the Whitehouse twice before. They know what it takes.
If Mr. Obama fails his test of commander and chief we can only hope that Hillary Clinton can continue her heroic fight for the American people. And that she prevails. She will need all the continual support and help we can give her. She may fight like a superhuman. But she is only human.
Sen. Hillary Clinton: "You know, more people have now voted for me than have voted for my opponent. In fact, I now have more votes than anybody has ever had in a primary contest for a nomination. And it's also clear that we've got nine more important contests to go."
Sincerely

Jack Smith,
Clinton has plenty of baggage but the Obama camp refrains from expoliting it. How will Clinton's chances look when the GOP stops working FOR her? Even KARL ROVE has written an article trying to bolster Clinton's "momentum".
Obama's advantages vs. McCain:
-legions of energized inspired volunteers.
-vast fund raising capabilities that empower small donors and cut out special interests
-did not pander with counterproductive gas-tax
-health care plan does not take away choice, does not punish struggling Americans, thus is less threatenting across the isle, more likely to be passed and give americans affordable health care
-DID NOT AUTHORIZE IRAQ WAR
-DID NOT LIE ABOUT SNIPER FIRE
-Youth, charisma, eloquence, honesty (that even the people of PA saw was greater than Clinton's)
-does not use fear to manipulate us
-has not transparently amended his stance on torture only after negative public reaction
-has not threatened to "obliterate" Iran, increasing global tensions.
-has not had high profile superdelegates defecting from his camp
-----
America was not founded on fear. We must rise above it.
Look closely. Clinton has NOT made a strong case for greater experience. She has simply used fear to imply it.
Obama learned from EXPERIENCE that a gas-tax holiday would not help consumers. He shows SOUND JUDGEMENT in saying that we need to focus on higher fuel efficiency and alternative fuels to solve the economic, environmental, and SECURITY issue that is our dependence on oil.
His health care plan avoids penalizing those who would not be able to afford health insurance. This shows a NUANCED understanding, and consideration for struggling Americans. This plan will also have greater appeal to libertarians/ independent type and will have a greater chance of getting signed into law.
EVEN TEMPERAMENT, sound judgement, INTEGRITY, carefully chosen strong language - these are the things we need in a commander in chief. Obama has the CONFIDENCE of many high level elected officials.
Threats of "Obliteration", Authorization of the Iraq war - Things we DO NOT need in a commander in chief. They do not make us safer. We do not take lightly the collateral damage implied here. How might Iranian-Americans feel?
Obama has lived abroad. He has an inside perspective on multiculturalism. The world is growing smaller. America is growing more diverse. We need a president with a deep understanding of these things.
We have had enough of the games and manipulations of the status quo. Obama CAN begin to change the game. He has done so much that is unprecedented already.
I'd also like to ask Obama supporters to restrain themselves from using smear tactics against Clinton. These tactics do not represent the ideals that Obama has inspired in so many of us. We are inspired by this man who will be a great leader of this nation. Changing the status quo starts with us. We must see beyond smears and dsitractions and refrain from using them as weapons. We support a candidate who represents hope, inspiration, cooperation, and strength.
Let us leave doubt, fear, and deception to the other camps.
The best barbecue goes to a place called Speedy's in Lexington, NC, just off Why 8. Hands down the best.
"I understand how badly people are hurting. If we''re serious about helping them, let''s provide them some relief, but let''s not pretend that we''re doing something by suggesting a gas tax holiday that will not be paid for and frankly, it is very unlikely that you''d see President George Bush sign," Obama told CNN Monday. "
No wander Congress has done nothing because Busch will veto anything anyway.
The best solution is to vote ''present''. Bunch smart fools.
