McCain leads Obama in Virginia
Saying he would be the stronger Democratic nominee, Barack Obama argues that he could put a traditionally Republican state like Virginia into play in November.
But a new poll today suggests an uphill fight.
In the Virginia Commonwealth University survey, 44 percent of registered voters prefer John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, compared to 36 percent for Obama. McCain also leads among independent voters, who are likely to be the key battleground in a McCain-Obama race.
McCain leads Hillary Clinton, who highlights her strength in more traditional Democratic states, 47 percent to 38 percent.
The poll was conducted May 12 to 18 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

The only surveys I have ever participated in have been for Republican candidates. If I were called today, I would declare my support for Senator Obama although I have voted Republican in the past. I am white, older, retired (making less than $50K), without a 4 year degree. I sincerely hope that the state of Virginia can show itself to be above the race issue. Only a fool would want 4 more days, much less 4 more years of a Bush/McCain presidency.

Originally from Ohio, living in Las Vegas, NV for almost 30 years, my husband & I are also supporting Barack Obama. We've been staunch supporters from early in the campaign. We are white, in our 50's & neither have a college degree. We try to stay informed & listen to all sides which natually brought us to Obama.
On the same day that McCain accused Obama of being naive on Iran, Obama provided the clearest answer I have heard yet
“JM said Obama does not understand the threat of Iraq', I understand the threat of Iraq, but what I know is that the Soviet Union had the ability to destroy the world several times over, had satellites spanning the globe, had huge masses of conventional military power, all directed at destroying us, so I've made it clear for years that the threat from Iran is grave but what I have said is we should just talk to our friends, we should be willing to engage our enemies as well, that's what deplomacy is all about. So let me be absolutely clear, Iran is a grave threat, it has an illicit nuclear program, it supports terrorism across the regions and militias in Iraq, it threatens Israel's existence and denies the holocost, but this threat has grown, primarily, and this is the irony, the reason is so much powerful now than a few years ago is because of the Bush/McCain policy of fighting an endless war in Iraq and refusing to pursue direct diplomacy with Iran. They're the ones who have not dealt with Iran wisely. Make no mistake, Iran is the single biggest beneficiary of a war in Iraq that should have never been authorized and never been waged. Thanks to George Bush's policies, Iran is now the greatest threat to the United States and Israel in the middleeast for a generation. John McCain wants to double-down on that failed policy. John McCain is right that the biggest threat we face is a terrorist with a nuclear weapon, that is why when he was busy supporting a war with a country that had no nuclear weapons, I was busy in the Senate working with republican Dick Lugar, to pass legislation to secure nuclear weapons and loose nuclear materials around the world. Thats why I made it clear that I will secure all nuclear materials around the world during my first term. When you are running for George Bush's third term, its hard to make a case on the merits. So John McCain is using the same George Bush text book that we have seen year after year after year. Anything other than continuing the war in Iraq, that has been called the greatest strategic blunder in recent American history, he calls naïve. Anything but their failed cowboy diplomacy thats produced no results, is called appeasement. Here's the truth. The Soviet Union had thousands of nuclear weapons and Iran doesn't have a single one. But when the world was on the brink of nuclear holocast, Kennedy talked to Kruschev, he got those missles out of Cuba. Why shouldn't we have the same courage and confidence to talk to our enemies? That is what strong countries do, that is what strong Presidents do, that is what I will do when I am president of the United States of America. For all their tough talk, one of things you have to ask yourself is what are George Bush and John McCain afraid of. Demanding that a coutry meet all your conditions before you meet with them...that is not a strategy, its just naïve wishful thinking. I am not afraid that we will loose some sort of propaganda fight with a dictator. Its time for America to win those battles because we've watched George Bush loose them year after year after year. Its time to restore our security and our standing in the world. You can vote for John McCain and nothing will change. We'll keep fighting a war in Iraq that hasn't made us safer. We'll keep talking tough in Washington while countries like Iran ignore our tough talk, or we can turn the page and restore the tradition of tough, disciplined and principled direct diplomacy that we have always used to protect the American people and advance America's interest. That is what Kennedy did, that is what Reagan did and that is what I will do as President of the United States of America.

Obama is a know nothing President about the real economic problem facing the country.I warn some people who are trying to use this inexperience candidate for President for their own personal gain.America is not a nation for anybody to play around with because God is watching and he will bring more destruction if a muslim person is trying to seek leadership of this land he selected for all those who truly fear him and live according to his will and purpose of preserving this promised land. All the States that select this man will see and feel the wrath of God on them and you all need to REPENT of your greatest SIN.Hear ye all people of these States to Gods warning.
"Iran is not a nation for anybody to play around with because Allah is watching and he will bring more destruction if a Christian person is trying to seek leadership of this land he selected for all those who truly fear him and live according to his will and purpose of preserving this promised land. All the provinces that select this man will see and feel the wrath of Allah on them and you all need to REPENT of your greatest SIN.Hear ye all people of Iran to Gods warning."
Funny how changing a few words can show exactly how dillusional (and ignorant; Obama isn't a muslim) some people are.
