McCain, the tree-hugger

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor May 14, 2008 11:15 AM

John McCain traipsed through the Pacific Northwest this week, making like a modern-day Teddy Roosevelt on the environment.

The presumptive Republican nominee publicly broke with the Bush administration on global warming, saying climate change is a real threat that needs addressing. Tuesday, to drive home the point, he walked through a forest near Seattle, wearing jeans and a Navy cap.

Now, his supporters can go eco-friendly -- both my reading his climate change plan on his website, and by buying McCain campaign gear.

There are polo shirts made of 70 percent bamboo and 30 percent cotton. There are visors and caps composed of organic cotton canvas. There are even onesies made of organic cotton and featuring a recycle log.

"Our campaign believes we can each do our part to protect the environment. You can take action today by visiting the eco-friendly section of our store," campaign manager Rick Davis wrote supporters in an e-mail.

  1. This is the only non-bad thing about McSame. It's too bad with his judicial appointments any environmentally-friendly legislation would probably be shot down. Judges in the like of Scalia would ban abortion and strip the federal government of its governing powers on environmental issues.

Interest groups need to wake up and realize electing someone based on one or two issues is not the answer. This is why Democrats need a veto-proof majority in Congress no matter who wins in November, but especially if we end up with McSame.
