More signs of Democratic disunity
Democrats in West Virginia are even less willing to forgive and forget if their favored candidate doesn't become the nominee, according to early exit polls.
Among those supporting Hillary Clinton, just 36 percent said they would vote for Barack Obama in November, while 35 percent would defect to Republican John McCain, according to the exit polls conducted for the TV networks and the Associated Press.
Among Obama voters, barely a majority, 51 percent, said they would vote for Clinton in November.
Those numbers of voters willing to vote for the other Democratic hopeful are down from recent contests.
In last week's primaries, 48 percent of Clinton voters in Indiana and 45 percent of her supporters in North Carolina said they would back Obama in the fall. Among Obama's voters, 70 percent in North Carolina and 59 percent in Indiana said they would be willing to support Clinton instead.

Divided we stand one by one we fall comes the Fall to the one and only in John Mccain the maverick,POW,Arizona Senator and War Veteran. Now how in the world can Barrack Obama face that Mccain history and his experience I say its only a miracle can he defeat the Arizona Senator.
if you ask me......it sounds like there is a lot of racists in west virginia. don't know how else you can look at it.
Do John McCain or conservative republicans respect the moral foundation of this country? The U.S. Constitution was designed to protect the people of America from misguided government.
U.S. Constitution: Amendment I - Freedom of Religion
Right now, for the first time ever, your tax dollars are funding religious groups you may not agree with. To add insult to injury, conservative judges have ruled that taxpayers do not have a right to challenge this expenditure.
Amendment IV - Search and seizure
Under the guise of court action against abortion, Conservative republicans had John Ashcroft subpoena all the medical records of literally thousands of women just like you and members of your family. Conservative republicans are invading your privacy every day. Unfortunately for all of us, they don't appear to care about our U.S. constitution, or by extension, the people of our great country.
Amendment X - Powers of the States and People
John McCain and conservative republicans have tried consistently to overturn States Laws. They used your tax dollars to destroy the will of the people of Oregon, and the famous "Death with Dignity" law; they lost, but undoubtedly will try again. Conservative republicans and John McCain do not respect States Rights.
Amendment VIII - Cruel and Unusual punishment
Would you rather die, or support a government which supported and sanctioned torture? The founding fathers would rather have died, and in fact they were proud to fight and die for our government: A government which specifically outlaws cruel and unusual punishment for very important reasons.
John McCain and the conservative republicans are destroying the moral foundations of our country. I urge you to keep this in mind in the coming election as we rebuild our nation together by voting Democrat.
The dumb part about that is that the media is forcing the polls to show teh divide in teh way they ask teh question. After Hillary is gone - which she will be soon - the choice become teh young advocate of change or teh old geeezer who will extend teh fiasco of teh Bush years - now what's your choice?
That's been the story of this entire campaign. Scratch a white American, you find a bigot.
It seems like only blacks vote for Obama - that seems racist.
This will change when the more stark differences become apparent.
The more bubble heads and pundits inside the Beltway play it up, the more it has significance.
Come November, most of these people will be back in the fold.
They must be racists, if they don't vote for Barack Obama.
Bye..Bye Obama supporters, the Clinton supporters train has already left for McCain town! Divided you lose ..a lesson for the Obama campaign (which includes media) for playing dirty and unfairly calling the race too early for an incompetent candidate, Obama..
Those 36% of Clinton supporters that are willing to back Barack are honest. The other 64% are "operation chaos", liars, or stupid sheets either way. McCain is a joke, and so far removed from Democratic principles that for D's swingin that way is like sayin you'd bang a donkey cuz you didn't get the prom date you wanted.
Looks to me Obama is only where he is today because there are a lot of racists in the Democratic party.
92% of blacks vote Obama?!
It is amazing that given the statistics of how many racists vote for Obama that the media will only talk about white racism (the *only* race that is split between Clinton and Obama).
Go Frank US!
Those are the real issues. War, Gas, Economy, all flow from the indulgences and abuses of our gov, which are reflected in the complete disregard for our founding principles. The very principles that made our nation the greatest ever. Now which candidate was a constitutional professor..??? Ill give you a hint, middle name Hussein.
When the now silly primary season is over, there will be a realignment of support. It is to early to make dire predictions, especially based on exit polls, which frequently prove to be very unreliable. Isn’t it true that many of these so-called Democrats have voted Republican in past elections? George Bush carried the WV in the last election.
Wake UP. Those "Clinton supporters" are McCain voters stirring the pot, doing their Rovian best to destabilize and demoralize the Democratic party. Don't fall for it, fellow Democrats. We desperately need a Democrat in office., whether the last name is Clinton or Obama! Don't be a GOP patsy!
It isnt racist that Obama has 95% of thre black vote? I don't know how else to look at that.
My analogy is this:
If any one of us were to face the roughest, toughest the world has placed to
compete in a winner take 'ALL' contest, would you choose the instrument that
WAS devastated through previous contests? With a combatant that knows the
game but can't take the field? OR, would you have the remade, improved instrument wielded by one who trained with, and, by the other contestants coaches? The electorate of West Virginia seem to be glued to leather helmets
with no face masks... even Garo Yepremian would knock them STUPID.It looks
like they've already played.
red necks...
I voted for Clinton and believe that McCain is the next best choice. McCain is not Bush, he is an independent thinker and moderate who stood up the the Bush Administration numerous times. McCain is very popular with Democrats and Kerry asked McCain to be on the Democratic presidential ticket in 2004. Obama is not yet qualified to be president. He neither has the experience or the understanding of American culture to be a good president. Obama is like Bush in 2000 because of his inexperience and arrogance...a dangerous mixture. If I am being asked to vote for Obama for civil rights symbolism, I will have to say "no". The presidency and the nation are too important. Obama, get more experience! (there are not 57 states!!!!)
For disgruntled Clinton voters to pick McCain over Obama doesn't make much sense.
If most Democrats are in opposition to the occupation in Iraq (Or so I thought) then why would they vote for a conservative candidate who is less likely to pull the troops out? What would make Obama that illigtimate to convince West Virginia voters to seek a candidate from another party entirely?
I don't like to say this, but I feel history and politics can back me up. The idea of a colored man seriously running for president is upsetting to West Virginians.
Call me whatever you want..I won't vote for Obama....I will vote for Clinton. so take that in your super delegate an smoke it.
Keep in mind your dealing with poor uneducated whites in W Va. I want to say racists but who knows? Unfortuneately this is the crowd Clintion is pandering to and why she campaigns for McCain. I'm beginning to feel she is thinking if I cant be president then Obama wont be if i can help it.
In couple days it will be forgotten and they can go back to their moonshine stills and the news people can work on more hillbillies in Kentucky.
As a african American, I guess i should be offended by some of the things i am seeing, but a funny thing is happening and i owe it to barack obama, i see his vision. America will become diverse whether we adapt or not and sadly, some people with outdated belief systems, will be shocked at the NEW AMERICA. We are so divided racially that we fail to see america can only grow and move forward if we start working together. I think all races need to do some soul searching and that includes my own race. Some peoples belief systems are outdated, but over time they will be replaced with younger and more diverse belief systems. This is only chapter one of many diverse political debates to come. It wont just be Barack Obama. It will be another culture and then what? Do we move forward and judge the candidate by their character or do we go backwards and make our decisions, many times the wrong decision, based on our personal biases of their skin color? If we forget the past, we are destined to repeat it!
As noted in Mr. Rhee‘s report, a larger percentage of Obama supporters would vote for Clinton in November. This is because they know that, along with being smart, tough, experienced & well prepared for the responsibilities of the oval office, Clinton has worked to help the less privileged & middle class throughout most of her adult life and will continue doing so.
The reason a larger percentage of Clinton’s supporters would not vote for Obama is that they’re apprehensive. Based on Obama’s achievements and experience to date, there’s little reason for confidence that he could or would be the leader we need. His scarcity of valid presidency qualifications--prepared plans/programs, experience, any bona fide accomplishments--along with his history, basic philosophy per his autobiography, his "selective" memory, and close ties to people like William Ayers, Louis Faraquan, el-slsl, Jeremiah Wright, and Tony Rezko cause deep concern about his qualifications, who he would choose as his advisers, cabinet, and chiefs of staff, and where he would lead us. He promises change but so did George Bush. Clinton promises change, and folks know hers will be for the better.
Look, all this racist talk isn't helpful. I support Obama, but I'm white. The reason for his heavy black support is because they feel he's being picked on unfairly. The reason whites are tipping away is because they feel Hillary is being unfairly portrayed as racist.
Yes, there probably are some racists in there somewhere. But most of the racists I know are ex-cons who aren't eligible to vote in the first place. That's right, because of the way prisons are divided, they're some of the most racist places you'll find.
So don't be like that. Don't divide yourselves just because that guy who called you an idiot on the internet supports the other candidate. It's ridiculous.
That said, maybe it's effective. I wonder if anyone has made a business of hiring people to behave like total assholes online, while pretending to support the other candidate?
"if you ask me......it sounds like there is a lot of racists in west virginia. don't know how else you can look at it."
Give me a break.
I guess 96% of Blacks in NC voting for Obama is NOT racist?
Yeah, keep believing that.
I'm an older, Independent, white, male, born in Michigan, living in Hillary's Senate State of NY since 1994...
And I support Obama.
But voting for McCain doesn't necessarily make you a racist. Voting for or against someone BECAUSE of race does in my book. Vote for whomever you think is the best candidate.
As far as the general election goes... both Hillary and Barack have very similar views on how America could and should be fixed. The idea that one group of supporters or the other wouldn't support these ideas out of ... anger or resentment... seems strange to me.
The issues and our country are most important.
As the Democrats rush head long off the cliff in their usual manner, I am not worried because I finally don't care. My vote didn't count in January, but it will count in November when I cast it for McCain. A Disenfranchised (former) Florida Democrat
To all you uneducated hicks in Hatfield-McCoy country. Obama can win without West Va. You voted for Bush last time, how'd that work out for you?
Here is what a vote for McCain means:
1. Support for the man who voted for the most lopsided bankruptcy bill in 2005. This bill essentially gave banks the freedom to pursue predatory lending practices with minimal accountability. Please read up on this bill before you cast your vote for McCain : http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/3/6/63144/06015
2. Bush-like ignorance of foreign policy.
3. Bush-like ignorance on economics.
There are many more things to consider objectively and dispassionately. Emotionally charged voting without considering the real issues is what happened in the last 2 elections. We (The US as we know it today) can't afford a third strike.
I don't care, I'll still vote for McCain. Obama and his supporters have treated Hillary so badly that the issues don't matter to me anymore. Obama promised us unity, and he gave the Democrats a civil war. Well, good luck Obama, cuz your not getting my vote.
I will not vote for Obama because of his supporters , the biased media and his lack of honesty - he is a sneak and an opportunist. I see that he uses people to get ahead and when the association does not suit his purpose he dumps them. Look at him wearing the flag on his lapel - says anything and does anything to win - sounds familiar - he tried to shut out the loss in West Virginia and got the $400 dollar hair cut washington operative to endorse him - people are not fools. He is an empty suit. I will vote McCain.
Great. Obama did not earn my support - and the party didn't earn my loyalty. They have mistreated Clinton from day one, and wanted her out on day 2. Well, they forgot one thing: her supporters do not share the establishment's hatred of her, and we cannot stand them either. I have learned to hate Pelosi (totally ineffective), Daschle, Obama, Kennedy, Richardson, and so many others. I'm voting for McCain after a lifetime of Democratic voting.
