MoveOn.org unveils ad contest winners

And the winner is...

Rather predictable and staid for a contest hosted by the antiwar group MoveOn.org for a TV ad supporting Barack Obama.

"I'm a lifelong Republican and I'm voting for Barack Obama," says a man in the winning ad, which echoes Obama's argument that he will broaden the electorate in November and appeal to Republicans and independents, as well as Democrats.

The group, which is now seeking donations to air the ad, says it was the winner from among more than 1,100 submissions and after 5.5 million online votes.

MoveOn.org also highlighted a few, more interesting finalists.

The group said the funniest entry was a satire on a disease ad, with people saying "I have hope" and "Hope, it could happen to you." "This your brain," a woman says, holding an egg. "This is your brain in hope," a man sitting next to her says, holding a chick. "Any questions?"

The most original, the group said, was submitted by Reggie Schickel of Hanover, N.H. In it, a man draws a caricature of President Bush, who beats his head against a wall. Then, an Obama draws a diagonal line to climb the wall. Finally, the artist turns the page -- as Obama says voters want to do for the next chapter of American history.
