Nader wants your tax rebate

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor May 9, 2008 02:50 PM

That economic stimulus tax rebate burning a hole in your pocket? Don't want to buy a plasma screen TV or pay off credit card debt?

Ralph Nader has another choice: "Deposit half. Donate the other half to Nader/Gonzalez."

Nader's independent presidential campaign told supporters today it badly needs the cash to fund a petition drive to get on the November ballot in Illinois, the home state of Democratic front-runner Barack Obama.

"Help us climb this mountain," the appeal says. "It's not going to be easy to get Nader/Gonzalez on the ballot in Illinois. We need 50,000 signatures. We need to hand them by June 26, 2008. And the state Democratic machine is going do everything it can keep us off the ballot."

In 2000, when Nader won nearly 3 percent of the vote nationwide as the Green Party candidate, he won 2 percent in Illinois.

In 2004 when he also ran as an independent, Nader won less than 1 percent nationally and in Illinois.

  1. I will only give him money if he promises to drop out of the 2008 race.

  1. Nader, I've voted for you in the past. But go to hell.

    Or:

Try to get the VP spot.

  1. But for real, Ralph Nadar, I NEED MY BUSH MONEY. I can't pay my bills and eat and pay rent and keep the internets on with my paycheck alone. Hell, wages have been stagnant since I left high school in 1995. Probably even before that. We got a little boost at the end of the Clinton years but guess what, Ralph, nobody has been making more money since then but rich people.

Didn't you get the memo about this?

At any rate, I need that money. You don't. You have a house and bike and food.

  1. nader speaks for me, im a blue collar worker slaving to make ends meet... dems sold people like me down the river... i voted for them in 2004 (mostly cause i live in oklahoma where we only had 2 choices for pres, that's not democracy) and they couldn't even beat george bush, our worst president ever, with nader as a non factor (of course the dems did everything in their power to stop nader, such as lawsuits and petition fraud). they still couldn't even beat bush. i guess america wanted more GWB... i see now that dems are just as corrupt as repubs, they're so close together, they're Demublicans... i'm ready for the war in iraq to be over, i'm ready to finally be able to afford to see a doctor, i'm ready for the war on drugs to be over... i'll contribute what i can... you corruptors won't change my mind.

  1. Go Nader!!

It's great that we have people like him running for public office. I would vote for him in a heartbeat, as both the Dems and Reps are beholden to corporate money and have corrupted democracy.

  1. Why is this millionaire lawyer asking me for my hard earned pennies? Go spend your own, and if you're not allowed to, how can you eceb keep a straight face asking people for $$ to finance a campaign that won't even get you 2% of the vote? This guy is a joke. Please Nader go away, and take your buddy Ron Paul with you

  1. Oh boohoo - Bush is all Nader's fault! WHAAAA!

Dems have been in bed with the Republicans - for years. NAFTA, Israel-does-no-wrong, the Iraq fiasco, Wall Street deregulation and bail-outs, no impeachment hearings, Greenspan, funding an illegal war, a do-nothing EPA, health care that keeps insurance and big pharma with their hands in the till.

How in bed are they? Gore's 2000 VP stumps with McCain now. Kerry wanted to try McCain as a VP in 2004.

Obama/McCain/Clinton is collecting millions from lobbyists and corporate pals - now that's a *real* waste of your tax rebate.

  1. Gotta love that whole "Bush got elected by Nader"... "logic"...

Certainly Nader was a factor, but it's not exactly like it was up to him to decide who's gonna be prez right? So... Why pick that factor out of all the other factors as THE ONE? Just curious...

Like the 5 or 6 other candidates who got more than the 500+ votes needed by Gore to win, or even *maybe* call me crazy but... THE PEOPLE WHO VOTED FOR BUSH. NOw, you gonna have to come up with some seriously twisted brain gymnastic to explain to me how a candidate is more responsible of the outcome of an election than huh... the voters...

Then again, I don't parrot everything that's being force fed to me on FOX...
