Patrick plugs Obama on "Time' 100 list
Deval Patrick, one of Barack Obama's biggest boosters, writes his entry in Time magazine's new list of the 100 most influential people in the world.
"The first time I met Barack we had coffee together at a shop in downtown Chicago. He was in a small law firm, and I was at the Justice Department's civil rights division in the Clinton Administration. Like many who meet him, I hoped he would one day run for public office. You just want people of his caliber to lead," the Massachusetts governor writes.
Patrick, who has campaigned for Obama and talked on his behalf on TV, said the Illinois senator "has already changed American politics."
"We often hear about the size of the crowds he attracts, as a measure of the excitement about his candidacy. It's the variety of the crowd that is the real phenomenon: little kids who sit on the floor in front of the podium, and the 101-year-old gentleman who stood up from his wheelchair in Iowa and said, 'I'm with him too.' Farmers in overalls next to people in business suits. Every race, religion and creed. Every political party and no party at all. You can feel their excitement about being in Barack's presence -- and about being in the presence of one another. They glimpse for a minute what it might be like to find common cause across differences. That's how Barack has changed politics."
Hillary Clinton is on the list, too, and her entry is written by actor-activist Rob Reiner, one of her most important backers in Hollywood.
John McCain's entry is from Senator Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, who was the 2000 Democratic vice presidential nominee but won re-election as an independent and has crossed party lines to endorse McCain.

I am finding it difficult to understand how anyone who is an American could possibly support Obama. He had a 20-year association with a man who is definitely anti-American. How can you not at least question Barack's motives. I remember the picture on the news of him wearing Islamic clothing while visiting the place where his father live(s)(d) - can't remember which, but I certainly remember the clothing and Obama with a big ass grin on his face. What is the matter with you people who support Obama!
They all have nasty associations. Obama's just surfaced through him. Clinton and McCain are very "close" with some very bad people all over the world. Anyone who understands politics, understands this.
Joy,
Maybe you should check yourself for prejudiced.
I would start there.
Obama will be an amazing president.
We need a new direction in this country and Obama can show us the way. But whatever happens in the primaries we do NOT need four more years of Bush politics, and a hundred more years of a war nobody wants. Vote Democratic.
Dear Joy Hiers:
I simply cannot understand why any true, intellectually honest Democrat would continue to support a sleazy, underhanded, lobbyist-sponsored corporatist (who calls herself a Democrat) like Hillary. This makes no sense to me.
I can understand a racist, ignorant person like you having the opinion you do. I just don't understand the rest of the Democrats who support her.
Joy---
You must truly be uninformed and naive. The Clintons are neck deep in dubious associations and McCain has a scandal ridden past. I'm from Arizona and have lived here for 37 years. If you think that either Clinton or McCain have been fully vetted, you're crazy! She and her husband have an election fraud lawsuit waiting in the wings (www.paulvclinton.com) and McCain's past associations here in AZ include the famous Keating Five. The fact that these things are not covered yet by the tabloid style media we have these days means nothing. They will be during the Fall election.
Why don't you pull yourself away from the dumbed-down media circus and do a little homework and then get back to us about what a big, bad boogeyman Obama is, okay?
This nice little Irish-Catholic girl in Florida had the audacity to wear my Obama pin to a biker bar on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. I turned some heads, but wore it with pride. We've all been taught to trust politicians as far as we can throw them - Obama's the skinniest...and so I'm going with him! I like his message. I like his brand. I believe we will be a better America.
"In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." George Orwell
Certainly telling the truth in the US makes one unelectable. Obama maybe unelectable because he is at least willing to come close to telling the truth. We are living in a time of universal deceit!
Yeah for Obama, the reason why folk call him an elitist is because he does not act like a gangbanger, go figure.
Wow, it continuously amazes me how willing, even eager, some people are to broadcast their ignorance, as if they are proud of it. Joy doesn't know where Obama's father lived or whether he is still alive, but she is voting for Hillary Clinton because his son was photographed wearing customary local clothing. Joy, does it matter to you that even Hillary Clinton (who I suspect would do and/or say absolutely anything to get elected) would be embarrassed by your comments? She must be very proud to be supported by such people ...
Joy,
I am shocked by your ignorance regarding your statements about Barack Obama.
I suggest that you do some authentic research before making such uninformed, prejudiced comments like this. How sad if there are actually more people like yourself with such false, fear-related beliefs.
