A little disunity for Democrats?

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor June 10, 2008 06:22 PM

The bigwigs of the Democratic Party held forth this afternoon as part of unifying behind Barack Obama.

But not all Democrats are giddy over the presumptive nominee.

US Representative Dan Boren of Oklahoma told the Associated Press today that while he'll vote for Obama in November, he won't endorse him, calling him "the most liberal senator in the U.S. Senate." Boren supported Hillary Clinton, who carried his mostly rural district in the primary.

"We're much more conservative," said Boren, whose father David, the former US senator and governor, endorsed Obama. "I've got to reflect my district. No one means more to me than the people who elected me. I have to listen them."

In Washington, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean led the news conference to declare that voters who supported Clinton -- blue-collar workers and women -- will flock to Obama's cause.

Another staunch Clinton backer, Ellen Malcolm, president of EMILY's List, plans a conference call Wednesday morning to declare that Republican John McCain's stands are "out of step" with women.

  1. I love it. Obama is by far the most liberal senator with a record that proves it. He is so far out of touch with average Americans that it only goes to prove how ignorant most of his followers are blindly following their candidate. Imagine if 95% of whites had voted for Clinton... what a racist country we would be... 95% of blacks vote for a black candidate and it is justified... double standard?

  1. The Democrats are "out of step" with all of American for electing Obama as their candidate. He does not represent America. His values are wrong for this country as is represented by the friends and company he keeps: The Nation of Islam, Wright, Rekzo, even Fidel and Hamas support him. He has spent most of his young outside mainland U.S., a lot in Indonesia a Muslim country. He voted to raise taxes over 90 times in the Senate. He has no foreign experience. He's a great speaker but so were lots of leaders of countries, one in the 1930's/1940's. Don't let his silver tongue fool you.

  1. Hillary Clinton supporters, Hillary loved each and everyone of you and tried so hard to be the President you deserved, so for the love of Hillary in return, do not vote for Obama. This fine American Woman has to say what the Democratic party wants her to say. I believe if you watched her speech in Washinton DC she did not look like she was saying what she truly wanted to say. So I am saying to you do not vote for Obama. Do not unify!

  1. Thank God there are a few people left in the Democratic Party who have the guts and the strength of their convictions not to cave in to the Party "regulars". I have been a Democrat my entire life but I am appalled by the rank stupidity and self-righteous bigotry of Pelosi, Dean, et. al. As much as I abhor everything the Republicans stand for, nothing could entice me to vote for Obama. He is not qualified - he is a con man, a liar and a manipulator.

  1. When iI have to choose between women's interests and integrity and honesty, I will choose the latter. The former is a 'limited' cause, the latter universal.

Therefore, I will vote for McCain.

The limited cause can suffer a little for four years (when Obama loses) but the HUMAN world will be a better place for ever (McCain being President).

Remember - always aim for perpetual/long-term gains, not short-term gains.

    Vote McCain.

  1. Dis unity? You have got that right. I voted for Hillary and feel that the DNC and the Media did all they could to push her aside. Am I bitter about it? YES. Will I vote for Obama? NO NO NO. Will I vote for McCain? YES YES YES. Obama is too inexperienced and we went through that with Bush and I'm not going to spend 4 years dealing with a Jr. Senator trying to figure things out. If you wanted change America then you should of picked Hillary she would of been change. Obama is just a puppet of the DNC and for them to compare him to JFK or Martin Luther King is just disgusting, it discredits their legacies. Give me a break. When Obama loses hopefully this will teach the DNC a lesson... Oh and Nancy Pelosi has to go.

  1. McCain is out of step with women? After all the super delegate women who deserted Mrs. Clinton and all of the other women who are so important minded and self-serving bashed her, I guess Mr Sweety (Obama) is much more in step by downplaying a woman reporter...hmmm so how are we defining out of step?

  1. Well good for him! Finally , someone in the "party" has a backbone and stands up for what they and their constiuents believe in. What a concept! Integrity and passing on the koolaid the Obamanots and media (aka: tank) have OD'ed on.

As much as I respect and totally adore Senator Clinton I can never, in good conscience, vote for an inexperienced, racist (associations and signs are there, sorry), bullying, sexist, elitist "typical politician" in an empty suit.

So, Senator Clinton, with all due respect, I will take my broken heart, my passionate energy and my hopes and put them for you, aside for now, and take what's left to work towards making sure this country has a real leader in the White House.

The way the "party" has treated you and the voters and the system is an absolute joke, only one without a punch line. Coward (!) Dean and his minions allowed the media, the party leaders, the "Democratic" party (oxymoron) and the Obama camp to shamelessly abuse and denigrate our Senator Clinton. How appropriate that the party mascot is a jackass! Like an elephant, my memory is long and my perseverance great.

God bless you Senator Clinton and God help America.

  1. We all know Hillary won the popularity votes and the DNC and delegates gave Obama the nomination. Has anyone compiled a list of which delegates did that so we remember at the time of these delegates elections how we vote ... i propose the name "the judas list" for such a list and to circulate this list everywhere

  1. Barack Obama is a great speaker and is able to energize a crowd, but is this always a good quality? Adolph Hitler motivated a nation to self destruction. Now, don't all of you liberals get stirred. I am not comparing Adolp Hitler and Barack Obama. The comment is to make you think. Do we need a graet speaker, or a qualified candidate. Show me Baracks qualities that make him the very best choice for president. Show me what he has done, not what he has said. Actions speak much louder than words. His actions concerning Jeremiah Wright and Father Pfleger, are what counts not his words. His choices for friends are more important than his words to the contrary. Let's get someone we can trust. John McCain has also flip flopped on a few things, but overall I trust him more than I do Obama, and he has a proven track record. Obama's only record is of being the most liberal senator. Is that whom we really want as a president?

I urge you all to take the pledge:

    "Ex-Hillary Fans For McCain" Pledge

Dear ex-Hillary fans who are showing their support for her by ignoring her call to support Obama and supporting McCain,

First, I'd like to congratulate you. You've asked yourself WWJMD and you've decided to vote against your own interests and principles while furthering Senator McCain's. Before you're allowed on the band wagon, we are asking you to sign the following oath. A McCain presidency will mean different things for different people, so we have tailored the oaths accordingly.

As a gay person, I promise to apply McCain's principles to my own life and vow to...

    * stop engaging in gay sex.
    * never try to marry or adopt.
    * enroll in a program to treat my homosexuality and "straighten" myself out, such as a "M.A.N.S. Journey" (Masculinity, Authenticity, Need Fulfillment, Surrender Journey).
    * install nanny cams in my house to prevent any gay relapses.
    * take responsibility for natural disasters**, including Katrina.

Once McCain is elected, I will continue to support him and his programs and I will not complain about my loss of civil rights. And I will continue to refrain from gay sex.

    * picket abortion clinics.
    * not use contraceptives.
    * drink bleachso I don't catch HIV and drink Mountain due so I don't get pregnant.
    * give back part of my salary to male coworkers.

    Sincerely,
    Signature __________

The McCain Loyalty Oath for Straight White Men

Straight white men, I bet you thought we left you out. This country may have turned its back on you, but we haven't. Here's a pledge of your own:

I _____________ pledge to transfer my support from Hillary Clinton to John McCain. I agree to do all I can do to get McCain the vote. In order to achieve this noble goal I promise to support McCain's...

    * use Iran/Iraq and Shiites/Sunnis interchangeably.
    * clear my schedule for the next 100 years.
    * enlist in the military.
    * follow Osama Bin Laden to the gates of hell (while smiling).
    * be willing to kill and/or be killed in Iraq.
    * be willing to kill and/or be killed in Iran.
    * be willing to kill and/or be killed in Syria.
    * be willing to kill and/or be killed in Venezuela.

Once McCain is elected, I will continue to support him and I will not complain about my loss of limbs or life. And I will continue to refrain from questioning the war in Iraq or any other wars we will be fighting.

    Sincerely,
    Signature ________________________________

**Although McCain and Hagee have since un-endorsed each other, that was not until Hagee's controversial Holocaust speech was discovered. McCain didn't think Hagee's position on gay people (or women of Muslims, for that matter) warrant his disavowal.

  1. I am far more concerned with the long term rights of women. A vote for Obama would tell the DNC that we do not care if they ignore our votes while nominating the lesser qualified male over the much more qualified woman. If Obama is elected this will be the moment that set women back 20 years. There is not a rule in the DNC which says that he who has the most "pledged delegates" wins. The rule is that he/she who gets the required number of pledged delegates (2118) by winning them in the state primaries and caucuses wins. When no candidate has won the required number of delegates through Primaries and Caucuses then the Super Delegates are to nominate the "most electable" candidate. The Super Delegates failed women everywhere with the sexist decision to nominate the weaker male candidate over the more qualified and stronger female candidate. Add that to the DNC allowing media's sexist treatment of Hillary and allowing Obama to convience the public that winning the "most states" or even the "most pledged delegates" was an expected win for him. By failing to set the rules straight in the public, the DNC set the stage to require the nomination of Obama or expect the black vote to sit home. If the black vote sat home the Super Dels that are also elected officials (Senators, Congressmen) could lose their seats.

The DNC counts on being able to push women down without the cost of these women voters. They believe women will vote Democratic regardless because the Democrats have always been the only party in favor of women's rights.
This is not a small thing even if you believe Obama to be the next JFK which he is not. The Democratic Party's reason for existing is equal rights. With the nomination of Obama, the Dems have shown that all there talk about equal rights, is just talk. Perhaps that is why they have nominated the great talker.

A vote for McCain is a vote for womens rights. I know the Republican Party is not in favor of womens rights but we are not voting McCain because he is for our rights, we are voting against the Democratic Party for their failure to stand for our rights. I ask that when voting or answering polls, please vote McCain and tell the pollsters that you are voting against the party that trashed womens rights by throwing Hillary under the bus. AND please do not do what women always do and that is jump on the "Oh she must be a B*****" bandwagon. That is how those against womens rights will always justifiy the dissmissal of a woman with the "but oh she is such a B****" line. This is also part of the reason the DNC leaders believe that they could convience women that they needed to nominate Obama because "she's a B****. Women please know that when your employer wants to hire his nephew, he too will say that you needed to be replaced because "you are difficult" and "you are a b****". SAVE WOMENS RIGHTS NOW. President McCain will have a democratic majority in the house and senate and therefore McCain in 4 years can not cause the damage to womens rights in an entire term that would be equal to the damage to our rights caused by the DNC with the nomination of Obama over Hillary..

    STAND UP FOR WOMENS RIGHTS

    VOTE McCAIN BY DEFAULT 2008

  1. Barack Obama's campaign slogan claims "Change we can believe in."

Barack Obama wants us to change our policies instead of wanting Iraq, Iran, Syria and Palestine to change their policies, and that is change we can not believe in.

  1. Obama endorsers from MA. These people should be replaced. These endorsers of Obama were ignored in the MA primary when MA voters voted Hillary by a double digit lead. Even following our votes these elected officials did not back off assigning their Super Delegate votes to Obama. We need elected officials that listen to the voters.

MA Senator John Kerry.........................runs for re-election this November...VOTE NO
MA Senator Ted Kennedy....................not expected to return to Senate/brain tumor
    MA Governor Duval Patrick.................

    NM Governor Richardson.....................Judas

Some of the officials on this new list are recent endorsers of Obama only after Hillary said to back Obama ....like the OH GOV....strong Hillary supporter and no need to vote him out.

  1. What would an "Obama" White House look like?

Aside from bringing in (more) questionable and corrupt characters, a first priority will be "reparations" (still an issue for many African-Americans) and amnesty for illegals from all countries. Taxes will go through the roof for everyone (NOT just the "rich")

Our international relations, such as they are, will bog down in "diplomatic discussions" with our enemies as we lose the few friends we have. The dollar will continue to weaken and oil will continue its upward spiral while "debate" continues on alternative energy solutioins.

What will happen if Obama is NOT elected? Will Americans be labeled racist and blacks riot?

McCain is only a half-jump better and (also) not worth voting for, so we're in trouble. Question is, how did we manage to nominate the worst of a bad lot? What were we thinking, or perhaps as Adolf Hitler once said, "it's a good thing the people don't think" (translated).

  1. So it took 13 ignorant posts for a rational and positive one. All of you that think Obama can't be a better president than McCain or Clinton, all that says to me is, "Don't let that n****r run my country." Grow up.

  1. MH: It scares me that you think people that do not support Obama are racist. Please understand that I live in MA and I voted for the Governor Duval Patrick. Now Patrick will not get my vote next time but it is not because he is black. It is because he endorsed Obama against the voters choice in our Primary. When we went to vote it was clear that Kennedy, Kerry and Patrick were endorsing Obama...........and we the people voted overwhelmingly for Hillary. If Senators Kennedy and Kerry and Gov. Patrick had changed their endorsment to reflect the voters of this state, then they would all still get my vote but refusing to see that we the voters in MA do not support Obama will cost all 3 of them my vote forever. I live across from a voting center and have already asked for McCain signs for my yard. McCain is not getting my vote for anything that he has done or not done. McCain gets my vote as a vote against the DNC and the very racist Obama.

  1. Pelosi, Reid and Dean can't "declare" what my vote will be! I'm an American and I'll vote whatever way I feel is best come November....not what "they" tell me to do. I know Hillary got the popular vote, that vote doesn't "mean anything" and Obama has been "selected" (vs. elected) but I'm still making up my OWN mind. As of now I'm entirely upset with the DNC's disrespect for Hillary, their clear bias for Obama and their complete silence during months of sexist attacks on Hillary. As of now I plan to vote for Nader/Gonazalez.

    NADER/GONZALEZ FOR 2008!
