Clinton does not concede
Hillary Clinton, projected to win South Dakota's primary but unable to keep Barack Obama from clinching the Democratic nomination, congratulated Obama tonight for the inspiring race he has run and said she was "committed to uniting our party,"
but stopped short of conceding to him or even acknowledging her defeat.
"This has been a long campaign and I will be making no decisions tonight," she said, provoking wild cheers from supporters.
She said she will consult with party leaders and supporters to decide how best to serve the party and country.
Instead, she claimed the overall popular vote lead and thanked millions of voters who picked her when they asked themselves, "Who will be the strongest candidate and the strongest president?"
"We won together the swing states necessary to get to 270 electoral votes," she told chanting supporters at Baruch College in New York City. "While this primary was long, I am so proud we stayed the course together."
Clinton said lots of people are asking, "What does Hillary want? What does she want? I want what I always fought for in this entire campaign. I want to end the war in Iraq. I want to turn this economy around."
Supporters who don't want her to drop out chanted "Denver," the site of the Democratic convention in late August.
Clinton, former president Bill Clinton, and daughter Chelsea were on stage with several members of Congress still sticking by her side, including Jim McGovern of Massachusetts. After her speech, they danced to Tina Turner's "Simply the Best,'' and Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down.''
Ellen R. Malcolm, founder and president of EMILY’s List and one of Clinton’s biggest supporters, issued a statement:
“Watching Senator Clinton speak tonight, I felt a tremendous sense of pride. From the unprecedented level of energy and engagement she has generated with women voters, to the stereo-types she confronted and conquered, Hillary's positive mark on the political landscape will be enduring. Hillary has shown the toughness, intelligence and passion to take on the enormous responsibilities of the presidency, including those of Commander-in-Chief. Her credibility in the harsh national spotlight will make it easier for every woman who runs, from local offices all the way to the top.”

this is absurd . . she lost and needs to move out of the way. The DNC needs to step in and tell her to beat it. That speech was an insult to Obama. . . typical clinton arrogance. The popular vote does not matter in this case.
Hillary Clinton has fought an uphill battle for several weeks and has won the votes of the majority of the Democratics in this country. Living now in Florida, I was shocked at the decision of the DNC on Saturday which just about gave O'Bama the nomination.
On January 29, I voted for Clinton not ever thinking that my vote was only actually a 1/2 vote. The DNC should be ashamed of themselves and if they loose to McCain in November, it will be another screw-up for these stubborn jerks. The Republican Florida legislature dictated the early election and the DNC can't get their heads out of their ass to recognize yet another scam to divide the Dems. Congradulations to the GOP>
Just incredible her selfishness and egotism. It just goes to show that when Senator Richardson said the Clintons had a sense of "Self Entitlement" he was right to say so, and this speech she made tonight just proves how far the Clintons will go. It's shameful that Americans fail to see what a carpet bagger of a politician she has always been. From moving to the most liberal state in America to ensure she would be elected senator, going back to her days shaddy going on's in Arkansas, this is a politician pure breed to raise trouble where ever she goes.
I hope that Senator Obama falls short of laying gratitudes on her after the speech she made tonight and most certainly exclude her as a running mate in Novembers election.
THIS IS HOW HER SUPPORTERS WANT IT
THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST
ON TO DENVER
ABSOLUTELY
YOU BET WE DON'T CONCEDE !!
OBAMA IS A HOUSE OF CARDS !
HERE COMES KARL KATRINA ROVE
ON TO DENVER !!
THE BEST CANDIDATE RUNNING
AND HER 50% +++
Hillary it is you or McCain. I will never, no way and under no circumstances vote for Obama. Not even with you as VP. Please don't do that to "US". Instead, take this all the way to Denver because Obama will implode. Or, start a new party, the People's Party of America. Finally, Hillary you speak to me but, the Democratic Party does not. Thank you for all that you have done and all that you will do in the Whitehouse. Hillary 08!!!
She has no class what so ever. I am a liberal Democrat and voted for Bill Clinton twice but I hope I never see either one again in my life... good riddance...
On a night where Dems should be rallying around our Presidential nominee, Barack Obama, Hillary showed her true colors by not being gracious in defeat and conceding the obvious. Her most rabid and delusional supporters still think she has a chance, as if those 4 delegates from in MI would have made a difference. I hope for the country's sake (and hers if she wants a future in the Democratic party) that she comes to her senses and genuinely throws her support behind him. I won't hold my breath though...
desmus: Popular vote doesn't matter hmm. I heard that refrain in 2000! So Obama supporters = Bushies.... Good job.
I will continue to fight and beg Super Delegates to change their minds! They can do so clear until they vote in Denver! This race isn't over by a long shot.
I will only vote for Hillary Clinton or John McCain. I will NEVER vote for Obama.
I cannot in good consiceince vote for someone with so little experience. I cannot in good conscience vote for someone who openly acknowledges friendship and political deals with former terrorists who blew up police stations and other acts of terrorism.
She is awful, no doubt. She says she wants to unify the party but her actions don't support her words. However, her supporters, at least the most vocal, are coming off as both stupid and ignorant. Clinton and Obama, while different, actually are fairly likeminded on most of their policies. Clinton and McCain are nearly polar opposites. So in no shape, way, or form can I understand the Clinton supporters who now say they will vote McCain. Sour grapes is not a good reason to compromise all of your principles, that is if you actually ever had any.
I have only one thing to say.............http://mccainocrat.com/
I'm glad the best candidate won. The fact that Hillary still won't concede underscores the fact that she does NOT put the party or the country before her own monstrous ego.
Had she gracefully conceded, I might have been persuaded to think of her as a good V.P. candidate. But her speech tonight makes me hope, with all my heart, Barack passes her over for someone far more deserving.
Way to go, Mr. Obama!
It's unbelievable that people are talking about this "majority of votes were for Clinton" junk. If it's even true, it's because Obama didn't campaign or even run in two states -- states which, from the beginning, weren't supposed to count. Saying Clinton got a majority of votes is spin, it's a technicality, and everybody knows it. The DNC "gave" Obama the nomination by only counting Michigan and Florida partially? Those two states are lucky any of their delegates are getting seated at all! Next time, don't break the party rules just to try to angle your state for an advantage.
I'm not voting for Obama or McCain, but the Clintons make me want to spit up green stringy mucus. They're the most self-serving slimebags to grace the political stage since Richard Nixon, and their manic, egomaniacal meltdown over the past few weeks is pure Nixonian paranoic delusion. Good riddance to them both from the political stage!
The Clintons are the best thing about the Democratic Party. When Hillary concedes I will leave the Party. I trust her judgment to decide when and if that will be. And in any case, NObama!
"I voted for Clinton not ever thinking that my vote was only actually a 1/2 vote. "
Well, if you had followed the election news leading up to the FL "primary" you would have known your vote was actually a 0/2 vote. The DNC cut you a break after the state party screwed up on your behalf.
Regardless, the bigger issue is people who would suddenly choose McCain if Hillary is not the nominee. Are you people who want universal healthcare and to get soldiers out of Iraq in the next year or two? Are those big issues for you? They are big issues to Hillary, but if you vote for McCain, you don't get to see those issues go your way. The only way for you to get traction on YOUR issues is to vote for Obama, regardless of how you may personally feel about it.
I've got to say: I'm rather appalled at the polarizing comments made by all seven of the above commenters. I'm an ardent Obama enthusiast, and not a bit fond of Hillary (those two facts are independent of one another), but it's hard to believe that NO ONE here has the sense to see that this party has got to get unified. Do you not want healthcare? Do you not want an end to the madness in Iraq? Do you want the kind of judges McCain will appoint?
She is truly a pathetic figure. How dare her try to hold a gun to the country and force her egocentric BS on all of us!
She doesn't give a damn about anyone but herself.
I will write-in as she asked in her speech tonight, but onlt to tell her to get the hell out of the way.
Disgraceful!
The popular vote does not win you the White House. To this reader the real losers are the citizens. If the best this country has to offer is Obama, Clinton, or McCain we are in deep doo-doo.
I'm an Independent and I can tell you that the Dems blew this one. Hillary would have defeated John McCain but Obama..............I don't think so.
I'll be voting for McCain as will a lot of Dems who were Hillary supporters. At my son's Democratic Caucus in Texas on Primary night, AFTER the Primary vote, every person in that room was a Hillary supporter and said they would NOT vote for Obama under any circumstance.
Hillary, don't give up and stay in this race. It is not over until the Super Delegates vote in Denver. They can, and will, change their minds. There are hints that some
vidoe footage of Michelle Obama will be hitting the media in a few days that will
make the Super Delegates come running back to you.
I cannot, in good conscience, vote for Obama with his racist and terrorist
connections. If Hillary drops out, this Democrat will vote for McCain.
...I am totally in agreement with #1 and #7 posters....she HATES Obama and continues to lie about her Party unity speech.....a liar-liar-liar.....I say this lying biitch will return to the Senate and slowly fade away into obscurity for good...Obama won fair and square!!
Hillary Clinton's campaign is $31 MILLION in debt. The only reason she's staying in the race is so that SUCKERS LIKE YOU donate more to her campaign so that she can pay off her bills and bow out. Otherwise, she's stuck with the bills herself. Clinton would rather let the bills go unpaid, thereby harming hundreds of companies who worked for her campaign. Failing that, she would rather thief her supporters into paying the debt on her failed campaign. The situation is quite disturbing.
Neither senator Clinton nor Senator Obama has enough pledged delegates to clinch the nomination.
Super delegates do not vote until the convention, they can only endorese.
In fact , they are not called super delegates by the party, they're automatic unpledged delegates.
The assertion that Senator Obama has clinched the nomination is false.
If he had, Clinton wouldn't have to quit.
Lets hope she doesn't become VP. Knowing the Clintons, they probably wouldn't mind if something awful happened to Obama.
Congratulations on HRC for running a hard fought campaign. I'm proud to live in a country where an African-American and a woman can compete to represent a party in the race for the highest office in the land.
Dave Cal - you should be surprised to get 1/2 of a vote. You were told you'd get 0% of a vote. Do you really believe the democratic party shouldn't have imposed a penalty and open the door for states to do what they want in the future?
It is easy to argue both sides of the Michigan allocation, but today it's mute anyway. Obama is now over 230 delegates ahead and will be by many more by the week's end. He'll likely end-up with 300 delegates more than HRC. It's just the math...
This does not mean she was not a great candidate. She's an amazing woman with amazing support and she should be respected for that, by all. However, Barack Obama should also get his due. He did not 'steal' this as some suggest. He ran a very smart campaign and surrounded himself with smart people. he was also able to get the support of many Superdelegates who have been Clinton supporters. They are smart people who had reasons for their decisions, whether we agree with them or not.
I hope that each person carefully considers their precious vote in the fall and vote for the candidate that best support their views. I pray that no-one votes for a candidate they don't truly beleive in out of passion, anger or spite.
God Bless America!
Arrogance has no place in the Vice President. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Barack, DO NOT choose her for your running mate. she is the antithesis of what you stand for. Is it any wonder she gave this speech to supporters who had no access to outside news (typically, thinking that she has utter control of EVERYTHING, she DID forget that they probably have cell phones with Internet access). Keeping it below basement level was also apropos. I try to feel sorry for her but can have no soft feelings for someone who thinks that I, as an African American, am not a "hard working American, [as I am not a] white American".
So now Clinton dangles those 17 million manhaters out there as bait to either McCain or Obama to get her bills paid and or a VP slot ... making her what ... and her supporters idiots.
Hillary Clinton showed her true colors tonite: she was defiant and egotistical. She put her needs above the needs of the party. I remember when Ted Kennedy would not shake Jimmy Carter's hand. This is a moment which is embedded in my mind, and I believe Kennedy lived to regret. When HRC spoke tonight, she reminded me of the Carter/Kennedy event. I think she will look back one day and wonder how she could have been so ungracious. It made her look bad, and it made our Party look back. To those older women, of whom I am one, remember if you vote for McCain you are doing so because you are looking back. Think of your grandchildren and children's future. They need our country to change. Senator Obama can provide that change because he has the ability to make us a better country.
Congratulations Senator Obama!
You ran a very fair race, and will make a great president! Do we really want tax cuts for the rich and war in Iraq for 100 more years? Common sense tells me Obama supports Main Street while McCain supports Wall Street. Let's all rally behind Barack and defeat Mr McCain in November!
Signed,
Jayden
Health Care Is A Right For All, Not Just The Wealthy!!!!
I have never heard such defiance from a loser from any game. It's truly amazing how she's thinking. A loss is a loss no matter how narrow.
She changed the game with Florida and Michigan, forced the DNC to give her some of the delegates and still didn't win and is STILL a sore loser. That's absolutely absurd.
To her supporters writing here, does this really makes sense to you guys ? And for the record, I'm not an Obama supporter.
What popular vote "win" is she claiming? At this point, this woman and her supporters are rabid lunatics
Post #2 says: "I was shocked at the decision of the DNC on Saturday which just about gave O'Bama the nomination."
Uh, no, the DNC didn't "give" Obama the nomination. Even if the Florida delegates had been seated at full strength without any penalty for going early, Hillary would still be significantly behind Barack in the overall pledged delegate count. The voters gave Obama the nomination, not the DNC. He earned this nomination.
Second point is that the compromise on seating Florida delegates at half strength was passed unanimously - including by members of the Clinton campaign.
Reading a board like this makes me sad for the state of modern society. So much hate, so much anger and so many lies.
Hillary and Obama are nearly identical on policy, yet because one is a white woman and the other a black man people are at each other's proverbial throats. Then there are the faux-Clinton supporters who want McCain to win but are faking Hillary support and devastation over her loss (yes, loss) to rile up people against a good candidate.
It really is sad.
Are you people crazy...not voting for Obama cause Hillary's not the nominee...
Get over yourselves, she lost the contest. If you believe (like Nader) that things will
just be OK if McCain wins you're nuts. The Supreme Court will swing to the conservatives and it will be like that for 15 years +...if you guys are so gung ho for women's rights...you might want to think about what a Scalia dominated court if going to feel like.
Suck it up and support the party..
Oh my God! Some people are so ridiculous saying that they will vote for McCain if Hillary is not nominated. Go ahead and vote for McCain, but don't complain later about the prices at the pump or about other senseless wars to come... Some people would rather see their country ruined if their candidate is not picked. This is a contest: someone has to lose and Hillary lost, period. The rules are the rules and the facts are facts. If someone has been trying to manipulate the facts is Hillary and her supporters, trying to force her nomination and create false expectations... People, please think before you vote and stop being childish... adult tantrums are so pathetic! In the worst case if you honestly think that Obama is not good, well simply don't vote. Stop that "then I'll vote for McCain" nonsense. That is too juvenile... grow up! UNITE THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY NOW..! Obama CAN and WILL beat McCain (aka Bush's third term). Be a real patriot and vote with your heads!
I completely agree with #24. Anyone that donates to her campaign at this point has, in my opinion, been suckered in. She simply wants her supporters to pay her debts off. Nothing more.
Ignorance runs rampant !
The "never say die" Hillary (unless it"s her opponents) continues to prove her lack of grace, sincerity, or ability to lead.
Her supporters are blind to basic realities, legal facts and ethics. I am astounded at the millions of voters duped with such passionate ease by her.
She is an old soap opera re-run that need to be shelved. What a mockery of the Democratic party!
Oh my God! Some people are so ridiculous saying that they will vote for McCain if Hillary is not nominated. Hillary is a sicko!!!! Why can't she just go away from were ever she is from. Pastor Pfleiger was wrong in how he presented his views on Hillary, but you got to give him a few points for the truth. Hillary can't believe that a black junior senator beat her. She wants respect from Senator Obama, but she is not showing him any respect. My mother told me that to get respect you have to also show respect. I pray Nominee Obama does not put her on his ticket. It will be a big mistake. Congratulations to Senator Obama!!!!
There is little doubt that Hillary Clinton's speech tonight came across as political and self-interested, and that unifying the Democratic Party did not appear to be a motivation behind her words.
However, despite the many Clinton criticisms that I have read above, I believe that her speech tonight actually had the unintended effect of enhancing Obama's subsequent words to the American people. The contrasting messages and tones of the two leaders tonight highlighted the difference between the leadership of Clinton and Obama. Where Clinton lacked the humility to recognize the historic achievement of her opponent, Obama graciously postponed the celebration of his own victory to focus on Clinton's momentous and successful campaign. Where Clinton failed to give any tangible promise to help Obama in the general election and bring the party together, Obama emphasized that his opponent's role would be pivotal and that her talent and support would be much-needed in uniting the party and bringing about change. The contrast between these two speeches showed us why Barack Obama is the leader that we Democrats and Independents elected to bring our nation together, and why Hillary Clinton is not.
Hillary Clinton now has a chance to show that she truly is fighting for americans and people 'like us'. She mentioned in her speech today a conversation she had with a lady who broke into tears asking "What are you going to do to ensure I get healthcare?"
Senator, we all ask you this tonight. What are you going to do to ensure that the Iraq War ends quickly? What are you going to do to ensure that every american has a fair shake, that every person has access to healthcare? What are you going to do, Senator Clinton, to ensure that we as americans are afforded workable, smart and timely economic policies that benefit US, not our bosses?
The only path...the ONLY path left...is to concede and do everything in your power to ensure Obama wins the white house. You fought a hard and a long campaign to win the nomination. You did so because you believed you were the best candidate. Many stood, and still stand, behind you. But now we reach a critical point. and important juncture in time.
If you fight on, the party WILL be divided. Hell, it may already be too late and it may already be hopelessly divided. But if there is to be any hope at all, you have one option. If you do not do everything in your power starting today to unify and unite this party...and more than that, to unite AMERICA...behind our parties nominee you ENSURE that those you have fought so hard for lose.
You ensure McCain wins the white house. You ensure that healthcare is de-regulated like the republicans did with credit cards. You ensure more years of sending our best young folk to a needless war that isn't making us safer. You ensure that the economy continues to plummet and suffer.
Clinton, now IS your time. You can show all of us that you fight not for yourself and your nomination, but you fight for those 18 million who believe and trust in you to do what it takes to help make their lives better.
It is YOUR time to unite the party in a way only you have the power to do. Fight for those who have trusted in you. Do the right thing.
Hilary and Bill are both lawyers and fairly bright. How, pray tell, is it that they dont understand simple rules of their own party? They were outsmarted by the Obama camp!
I've counted several responses here that say "I will vote for Hillary or McCain."
That is the dumbest thing anyone could say.
Hillary: Wants the U.S. out of Iraq. McCain: wants us to stay there for 100 years (and build permanent bases.)
Hillary: Wants universal health care. McCain: has a plan to 'shift the bias away from employer funded health care' and that would actually kick a lot of people off the healthcare they have right now.
Hillary: Wants to make a move towards fiscal responsibility by revoking the Bush tax cuts. McCain: wants to make the Bush tax cuts permanent.
Hillary: Supports a woman's right to control her own reproductive organs. Will appoint Supreme Court justices who won't overturn Roe v. Wade. McCain: 100% 'pro-life' voting record, has promised to appoint 'strict constructionist' judges to the Supreme Court (code for will overturn Roe v. Wade.) The two justices most likely to leave the court soon are Stevens and Ginsberg, so if McCain replaces them with the kind of judges he's promised he will, then conservatives will have a solid six votes on the Supreme Court for the foreseeable future.
Hillary: Believes in helping people in economic distress right now. McCain: Has no economic plan beyond tax cuts.
In fact, Hillary vs. McCain would be about a 180 degree difference on almost every issue that matters (except for Global warming.)
You don't have to like Obama, but anyone who says, "Hillary or McCain" is clearly too irrational to have a clue about what they are actually voting for.
Some day, Clinton's "Older white women" must realize that they are worshiping at the feet of a once galant contender who turned into a selfish pretender. Clinton has put her personal ambition above our right to choose, economic fairness and an end to a disgraceful war. She will lead her rats into the sea and watch them drown.
Who cares which one of the two candidates "won?"
If all democrats don't get in line, and tow the line, we all lose... and we deserve it!
I'd vote for either candidate, but now, it's Obama's time.
All you rubes who get caught up in identity politics are shallow and stupid... Neither one of the candidates are god's gift to earth, and both are semi-corporate moderates, who will have only incremental success without the support of a progressive electorate.
Don't personalize this decision, unless you're a closet Republican in the first place. We need to keep McCain out of the White House in '08..!
I'd vote for Barney the Dinosaur, as long as he/she wasn't a Conservative criminal, at this point, and as long as the Democratic turnout is high enough to bring in votes for all the other congressional and state races down the ticket...!!!
WAKE THE HECK UP.
Man, you people still supporting Clinton: GET OVER IT. IT'S ABOUT A BETTER AMERICA. I can't believe you Clinton supporters would actually VOTE for McCain. SERIOUSLY?? CLINTON AND OBAMA ARE PRACTICALLY IDENTICAL ON THE ISSUES-- SHE'S SAID IT HERSELF. OBAMA WON. MOVE ON.
HERES MY QUESTION TO YOU DIE HARD CLINTONITES: SHE WANTS TO BE VP, SO NOW WHAT? Would you still not vote for Obama if she's VP?
Seriously, who are you people? Must be the uneducated voters that Clinton seems to do well with. Open your mind. It's really refreshing.
So much in debt?Hillary Clinton's campaign is so much in debt? So, thisis the way America views all of the worlds' endeavors?Whether the pluses out-do the minuses? Whether we want to admit it or not,the underdog has always been the one who often wins in our Judeo/Christian world.Whether that be the year 33 or was it 34, the year of the Passion of our Lord..or the year 2008.I have struggled with this campaign/I have dug deep into my heart for an answer concerning the winner or the designated loser....yet in this the year 2008? I think the winner is,in fact, the loser.I think the loser is, in fact, the winner.Thank you, Hillary Clinton.Thank you for inspiring all of us..whether we consider ourselves in that winning or losing circle. Please, after the win in South Dakota? Don't give up.
This has been a very close race. I still don't understand this newfound magic number of required delegates. I still do not understand why we allow caucuses. I still don't understand how Howard Dean and the DNC fouled up FL and MI. I am disappointed in the media and its lack of coverage. I am disappointed Obama's background and voting record and resume were not more thoroughly researched from the get-go. I am NOT disappointed Hillary Clinton did not concede this evening. I am DEFINITELY LOOKING FORWARD to the Dem Convention!
Go Independent, Hillary!
tony from texas.. you probably have been a fan of the iraq war too... there is no hope for some...
No way would i be voting for Obama, heck i am ready to change party if i have to.
America is doomed. The majority of voters are watching the election as if it was a pay-per-view wrestling spectacular or their daily soap operas.... The issues have taken a back seat to the personal ego of the candidates and the public's knee-jerk reaction regarding race and sex. I am so disgusted with us all. We deserve what we get. God help us all.
If only smart, educated people were allowed to vote, neither Democrats nor Republicans would ever win an election.
This isn't about racism or minor cosmetic details like which candidate has a better plan for forcing government-controlled and -mandated health care down your throat.
This is about brainwashing the public into believing that you have to vote for either a Republican or a Democrat. There's actually a meaningful difference between those two choices.
Convincing people that it doesn't matter that all 3 candidates have a history of lying, cheating, and ignoring the Constitution.
The worst thing that's wrong with politics in America? The political parties.
Saying that...The best Men Job is a WOMEN...GO HILLARY DO NOT CONCEDE, AMERICA IS BEHIND YOU.
RIGHT ON JOSGIRL, that is one of the reason why the media and Obama supporters have been pushing the numbers his way because of all the false statements and the bias towards Clinton and how they all love for her to quit. I am sooo glad she didn't concede today, there is nothing to concede, just like josgirl said no one has 2118 pledged delegate to claim that, plus super delegate can change their mind anytime up until the convention. Hey just like all the Obama supporters have been saying about FL and MI, "rules are rules", well then follow them now, this goes to Obama and his throng of supporters. You may not like it now but those are the rules so follow them.
Hillary Clinton did not win the popular vote, and it's only Barack's graciousness that prevents him from publicly disputing her claim.
What we might someday call 'Hillary Math' refuses to count Barack's votes from several caucus states and denies him any vote from Michigan. In fact, the Michigan vote should not be counted at all, since Hillary was the only major candidate on the ballot. Only a dictator, or someone with the soul of a dictator, would try to legitimize an election where she was the only candidate. Indeed, the other Democrats were suspicious of her leaving her name on the ballot, and when asked about it she claimed it was irrelevant since votes for her would never count for anything. That was her story before she realized she was losing the nomination.
Obama won get over it. If Clinton supporters do not support Obama they should stay home a cry and whine but please, please, please do not mess up the country any further by voting!
Boy, such negative statements from Obama or Clinton supporters are puzzling. They are very close together on a lot of the issues, both fought a hard campaign, Barack won but not by much.
Clinton supporters you've got to grow up ... all the voters of Florida and Michigan knew that their votes weren't going to count because their ignorant state committees scheduled primaries in violation of DNC rules. To suggest that these votes were "robbed" from Clinton is just a BS argument, and those types of arguments are really detrimental to both the Democratic party and politics in general.
Cut the crap!
Congrats Hillary! You are the chosen Democrat that can beat McCain - I pray you don't opt for the second-rate VP position, you're worth much more and carry more weight than that.
Obama can then fall on his face, because there is no way he would ever, eVeR, EVER, beat McCain without you. I see 4 more years of a horrible Republican-run country... Without you, that would show the Dems that you are/were the candidate.
Obama has nothing to show since he's done, what(?), not much if nothing as a Senator. He is weak, WEAK! Obama is nothing without you - Don't hop on that train-wreck ticktet to nowhere. He'll never get my vote, EVER!
The egomaniacal bent of Hillary Clinton is more dangerous than Richard Nixon's. Even Nixon conceded to Kennedy, the Presidency no less, despite the fact that the Illinois politicians stole that election, because he put the country before himself. And when Nixon finally later came to power as President, his true paranoid, authoritarian nature played itself out. If Hillary Clinton ever ascended to the Presidency, she would be even worse, given her track record during this campaign. (They both have displayed a "Southern strategy" playing to racism, after all. She also played the religion card, like Nixon, his being Catholicism, and hers being that unanswered question about Obama's Christianity, versus "Muslim". With her complaints about sexism and unfair media coverage, she has displayed a similar paranoia and "enemies" mentality. The Clintons are the same types of "crooks" as Nixon was, totally corrupt and power hungry.) I fear for this country if Obama permits her to assume the Vice Presidency. She is not to be trusted, either by Obama, or by this country. With a Clinton on the ticket, I would of necessity have to reconsider my support for Obama in November. Clinton represents a "clear and present danger" to American politics and our government.
This has gotten ridiculous. It is far too personal.
I am a Clinton supporter. I am deeply dissappointed she has lost. She truly has won the most votes, although Obama did have his name on one of the ballots. I think she would make a great President and defeat John McCain.
However, though I wanted Hillary, there are things I want MORE. More than a Hillary Clinton Presidency.
I want someone to end the war in Iraq.
I want someome to begin looking into new forms of energy.
I want someone with logical thinking trying to solve the oil crisis.
I want someone to help the economy.
I want someone who can get people less privlidged than myself healthcare.
I want someone whose name brings the country respect from other countries.
And I really, REALLY wanted that someone to be Hillary Clinton. I really did. But the issues at hand are far more important than you, me, her, or anybody else.
Do I like Barack Obama? He seems like a nice man. He has some shady connections. Does he have enough expirience? I find this argument moot. Bush had 2 terms as Governor, was a President and 2 term Vice President's son. He had a lot of it. How did the work out?
I am not Obamas biggest fan. All of the stuff Hillarys said has made me dislike even more. But we all need to realize that there have been much worse things said in this campaign.
"We could be in Iraq for 100 years"
"Iran is training terrorists"
"The middle class tax cuts need to be perminent"
"I dont know much about the economy".
Mitt Romney, maybe. Rudy? Huck? Possibly. But JOHN MCCAIN? Are you kidding me?
Any Clinton supporter who says they'll vote McCain over Obama are not true Hillary supporters because McCain stands for everything she was against while Obamas virtually the same.
To poster #10, what are you thinking? For all the expirience McCain has in politics over Obama, they sure havent helped him. He loves the Iraq war. He doesn't know jack about the economy.
I know I, for one, could neve, EVER, feel right voting for somebody who had such an open disreguard for the opinion of the people he represents. McCain as President would represent US. The Iraq war is incredibly unpopular. The economy is suffering. The planet is dying.
And you guys are telling me you'll vote for him? I dont care how bad some of you think Oama would be, theres absolutley NO WAY John McCain could be better. None. Zero. Zip.
I REALLY wanted Hillary Clinton but, from now on, Obama has my vote because there is absolutley no way I want Bush term 3, and that is all John McCain is, wether he says so or not.
There is so little separating these candidates from a policy level. The folks who shout "Nobama" - what drives them is not about the policy issues. It's about something else.
With this speech, HRC is doing a poor job in uniting the party.
The Democrats are getting ready to once again lose the Presidency. Whose the only Democrat whose won in 32 years? Oh, Bill Clinton. Whose the only twice-elected Democrat in my life time? Oh, Bill Clinton.
The current DNC is the most dysfunctional political operation I've ever seen. They hand-pick the candidate who can't win the electroal college. The crack-up is that Obama ran as the candidate of unity. LOL! The Democratic Party is now is shambles.
I don't know any Clinton supporters who won't be actively working against BHO in November.
Beleive me, my state -- New Hampshire, a vital swing state -- hates BHO's congregation clapping and cheering and high-fiving their preacher screaming, "GD America" a lot more than they hate an American hero named John McCain.
NOBAMA 08
He set his sights on the youth (remember Jim Jones, Manson, Bomber Bill Ayers who says Obama is the best thing since sliced bread)
Obama will not win in Nov. he has too many radicals pushing for him.
I cant wait to see the real Michelle and her "whitey" video on display.
Hillary should play the "Lieberman card." Run as an Independent Democrat. She'd kick both BO's and Mac's butt.
The dialogue above is proof of the damage HRC has already done: on the night Dems should be celebrating their nominee, many are attacking him and the whole debate is about her, not the country's interests. THAT is the main harm Clinton has done and can't seem to stop doing. Hillary's supporters should search their souls and ask themselves if they'd really vote for McCain and condemn America's sons and daughters to fighting and financing the Iraq war, simply out of spite? That may help Hillary in 2012, but surely you are better patriots than that?
Why should she shut her campaign down?
She should put it on the back burner and keep it warm. 18,000,000 voters want it that way, and if Obama supporters continue to rip on her for doing what any free American has the right to do, it's going to make hundreds of thousands of those voters very difficult to vote for Obama in November if it comes to that.
Give Senator Clinton respect. She's earned it, as well as the most votes of any Democratic primary candidate in history.
We all need to unite as Americans. This run for the presidency should not be about race, gender, or who has served in the military. We need the strongest president possible. Barrack has every right to be proud of his accomplishments but so does Hillary and John. Let's all look at the issues and what's at stake for our country and stop pointing fingers and finding fault in all our candidates. We need change and unless we can all look past our own faults and look at the good in each of these candidates we will repeat what we have had the last several years. We need to realize that these candidates are all human and wow what a revelation .. humans make mistakes. Give them all a break and listen to their ideas and how they plan to make change. November is when it truly counts.
There is little doubt that Hillary Clinton's speech tonight came across as self-interested, and that unifying the Democratic Party did not serve as a motivation behind her words.
However, despite the many Clinton criticisms that I have read above, I believe that her speech tonight actually had the unintended effect of enhancing Obama's subsequent words to the American people. The extreme contrasting messages and tones of the two leaders tonight highlighted the difference between the leadership of Clinton and Obama. While Clinton lacked the humility to recognize the historic achievement of her opponent, Obama graciously postponed the celebration of his own victory to focus on Clinton's momentous and successful campaign. Where Clinton failed to give any tangible promise to help Obama in the general election and bring the party together, Obama emphasized that her role would be pivotal and that her help and talents would be much-needed in uniting the party and bringing about change. These two speeches showed us why Barack Obama is the leader that we Democrats and Independents elected to bring our nation together, and why Hillary Clinton is not.
Only uneducated Hillary supporters believe the "math" that supports her false popular vote claim. Only they could think she supports the working class despite her campaign's DOCUMENTED HISTORY of not paying its bills to the small businesses it worked with. Have her run as a 3rd party candidate. Another term of McBush will hurt you far worse than us.
Clinton's megalomania is showing. Hillary needs to get out of the way of progress and UNIFY the party. The people of have spoken. The people of this country no longer want the current status quo government that her, her husband the the Bushies (and Bush v3.0, John McCain) are known for. And after hearing her speech Tuesday night and then dragging this out...I'd think it is safe to say that she can kiss that VP slot goodbye.
