Clinton preparing graceful exit?

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor June 3, 2008 11:25 AM

After a day full of conflicting signals, Hillary Clinton's campaign seems to be sending clearer ones today -- that she will gracefully exit the stage and won't take her fight to the convention.

The Associated Press is reporting that she plans to acknowledge in her speech tonight that Barack Obama has the delegates for the nomination. The AP is also saying advisers have said that Clinton has made a strategic decision to suspend her campaign and not formally end it, giving her leverage to negotiate with Obama on various matters including a possible vice presidential nomination for her. She also wants to press him on issues he should focus on in the fall, such as health care.

The Clinton campaign, however, is denying the AP report. "The AP story is incorrect. Senator Clinton will not concede the nomination this evening," the statement said.

Clinton campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe did say this morning that once Obama reaches the majority of delegates, "I think Hillary Clinton will congratulate him and call him the nominee."

McAuliffe had been among those as late as Monday excoriating the Democratic National Committee rules committee's decision on the disputed Florida and Michigan delegates and reserving the right to appeal the ruling.

But on NBC's "Today" show this morning, he said, "I don't think she's going to go to the credentials committee."

And the New York Times reported today that Clinton is prepared to give what aides are calling a farewell speech tonight summing up her candidacy.

  1. Doesn't matter. McCain is going to beat Obama. Obama may get like 5 states at the MOST! Good job Democrats, thanks again for nominating a LOSING candidate.

  1. She shouldn't quit. Obama is not electable; he shows poor judgment and poor character by association. His nomination is the result of the Republican manipulation of our media and in the end, the Republicans will eat him for breakfast.

Nice going Democrats, you've lost the White House again.

  1. I'll believe it when I see it.

I honestly think that she would like Obama to lose to McCain, and staying in this race could help her sabotage him. But she still may consider her own career. Perhaps she doesn't want to be a pariah.

I really hope there is no deal to make her VP. That would be crushing.

  1. Sad news, democrats have once again set themselves up for another November loss. The only way they can win in a national election is if Hillary is on the ticket, I hope they at least get that right.

  1. Hilary should stay in the race through the convention! Obama is not qualified, lacks experience to lead this Nation,at this very important time. He may talk the talk, but their is no substance behind it!!!!

Now we can focus on winning the REAL election. Obama for president!!!
And those who think Obama is gonna lose, oh ye of little faith, did anyone think he was gonna get this far in the 1st place?
At least Hillary taught us one thing: it ain't over till it's over! And right now, it's just beginning!

  1. Yawn. According to pollster.com Obama sacks McCain in the electoral college.

For June 3rd, the tally is Obama 283, McCain 255.

For races within 10 points, 15 are red states and 6 are blue states (in the toss-up category).

Those of you Democrats going to vote for McSame? Hope you like Bush...a LOT.

    Don't become a Lieberman, fools.

  1. Negotiating a VP nomination for herself? It's been her plan all along to use every possible device to wrangle the nomination for herself, including this entire Florida-Michigan nonsense. Now she thinks she can convince voters that Obama's the right man for the job when all this time she's been saying the opposite? And that will come across as genuine to voters?

  1. First off, ignore the paid GOP comment makers trying to tell you Obama is unelectable.

Secondly, check out pollster.com to see who is winning what states.

Thirdly, once McCain has the media pressure on him I expect Obama's popularity to go way way up.

  1. Who the f*** do you think you are voting for McCain or writing in for Hillary? I respect those who are angry that she lost and have doubts about Obama, but he and Hillary have the SAME policy positions, while McCain has very conservative positions. Do you CARE about this country?

  1. Sooo emotional.

"I going to vote for McCain, then." Sound's like someone's feelings is hurt - be a grown up and vote based on upcoming debates, relevant information between the two nominated candidates, etc.... Not because you just dislike the team that beat yours.

Its ok in sports, but when we are talking about running a country...lets not be so illogical. Why would you vote for someone who's views are more different than the same? You are actually hurting yourself (well if you picked the candidate based on their position within the issues...I give you that benefit of the doubt)

Come on. Time to move on.

  1. Every one of the 3 candidates for president has his/her weaknesses and strengths. If Obama is the guy for the Dems, then they had better wage a fierce, hardnosed fight -- just as hard and nasty as the 'publicans do -- and that should do it. They better not run a campaign like our Duke did in 1988 or Gore or Kerry: no more wimping out for dems! The issues are pretty clear for voters -- 4 more years of disaster or a new direction -- as long as the dems can make sure that that message isn't buried under all the usual #$%^^& the 'publicans throw at 'em, they should win.

  1. Yeah, it's about time, though I don't really agree with "snm" who posted a few minutes ago. The Republicans would have eaten either of them for breakfast. If the democrats want a chance to win this election and restore order to the galaxy by ousting the no good GOP, they need to run a smart campaign for once instead of letting the Republicans walk all over them. I mean really, they don't have anything to brag about, the country is in the toliet right now, so make sure the public knows that!

  1. A word to the wise forma life long Democrat. Obama supporters best be careful how they treat Hillary supporters if he is the nominee, which he appears to be. This will be an extrmemly fragile period of time for the Obama cam paign he will wil undoubtably need Clinton's Base to even come close to winning the general.

  1. Picking Hilliary for his VP will doom Obama...he will not win ..and even if he did win..he would be doomed...at the best would be like living in Mother In Law's house with Billarys there.

Hilliary wouldnt' win if she were nominated...as long as Bill is along. Vanity Fair is just the tip of the iceberg of what will come out on him.

But wisdom is not a trait the Clintons have. Cunning, maybe. She is not dropping out. I am afraid that she could go to the convention and in a floor fight end up with nomination. And if not her someone other then Obama. Sad.

She can't invite people to her huse.. they wold see all the white house treasures she stole from there.

  1. The last time we elected a Senator as President was John Kennedy, and he was an experienced senator. Have we ever elected to be President of the United States an inexperienced senator who was a state legislator three years ago? Not ever -- and why would 300 million American voters do such a foolish thing? Not when John McCain -- with 30 more years of experience, as well as being a veteran -- is ready to serve his country, finally.

  1. If she can find grace with which to finish her botched and painful campaign, she might be able to save the legacy of the Clintons which until she entered this race with entitlement and deceit (oops, "misspeaks" (gunfire); broken promises (Michigan and Florida); disrespect (thinking voters would fall for her gas break) was something worth treasuring. She has made history as the first viable woman candidate. That she was not the best candidate, woman or not, does not deflect from that big step. Ironically, she rode a ticket of "return to the past" when the nation craved change. If she can back Obama, who had the good sense to run a bottom up campaign, and urge her supporters to follow, she may even leave a less than sour taste in voters' mouths. But I fear she fueled the irrational wrath of supporters who will vote for McCain because they didn't get Hillary and care less for the good of this country than their own disappointment. Time will tell if grace is possible for this old time feminist who may find grace (the kind Obama exudes) too unmanly for her...

  1. Perhaps we should step back and look at these three lessons from George W Bush:

    1) Bush shows us: Every time is an important time for the nation. It looked like smooth sailing (except for the tech bubble), but no.

    2) Presidencies should not run in the family. There's a little too much baggage. (e.g., Cheney)

    3) You don't need experience to be elected President. Obama may not have as much experience is H. Clinton, but GWB had even less.

  1. I hope that she continues her campaign, however, thirty years ago I made the prediction in a college class that a black man would be elected president before a woman. This society has to stop discriminating against women, especially smart women, once and for all!

Obama has used his charm and race, rather than substance, to get his votes. Hillary has been the trailblazer for all, and unfortunately, voters are not looking at the issues in depth. Shame on us. For that, we deserve another Republican war monger in the White House!

Why do you think all the Repubs loved her now, they wanted to run against her, and win!!! It did not take a rocket scientist to figure it out. Just to win against the Clinton machine means this guy is a big winner and has what it takes!

  1. When the alternative is a third term for a president with approval in the twenties, I am pretty sure anyone short of Carrot Top is electable. Clinton should have been gone months ago, and the Dems will roll up in November just like they have in those three special house elections. Obama is a better candidate, always has been a better candidate and the only reason he appears weaker is because the Clinton's have pulled out every single one of their dirty tricks because they are graceless political pigs who have no idea how to lose, even when they are clearly beaten. Once he is clear of the underhanded smear campaign perpetrated by the Clintons (Anyone notice how very Karl Rovian their tactics are?) Obama will gain momentum and roll over McCain.

  1. Have fun voting for McCain. Fools. Simply fools.

I think what Obama is going to do tonight is endorse Hillary's healthcare mandate with some twists to make sure it's done right. He will ask her to lead this effort, but stop waay short of having her be VP. With her fighting for passage in the Senate, they will be unstoppable.

Hillary will hurt Obama as a VP choice. He needs to pick someone with executive and military experience from the midwest or west. I think a woman might help him, but it's not necessary for him to win. Plus two "minorities" might be too much for many Americans.

  1. To all those who say Obama is unelectable, or is a poor candidate, and that they'll vote for McCain if Clinton isn't the Democratic nominee: you have let yourselves be manipulated by the right-wing noise machine and are being played for suckers. If McCain beats Obama, you're as much to blame as the right-wing liars themselves. People continue to fall for the right wing's dishonest tactics, such as out-of-context quotes, spins that twist a candidate's message into sounding like something very different from what he said, focusing on superficial non-issues, and yes, outright lies, so Karl Rove and others like him continue to use those tactics. Try reading Obama's book, listen to the candidates directly instead of just hearing sound bites about what other people are saying about them, and you'll get a truer picture.

I was going to vote for Hillary, as a baby boomer I remember the golden years of the Clinton white house, as a black american I remember feeling like someone cared about issues that were important to me. Now, I am going to vote for Obama, I was very disappointed in Hillary going to extremes to try and win the nomination, dividing the Country and the Democratic party.

I love america and it is more important to me to live in a Nation where my children can grew up united, in prosperity, able to excel to the highest attainable office in the nation, than it is to fight against one another and continue this downward spiral we are in.

Our dollar is only worth 75 cents, Gas $4.00 a gallon, House values dropping while food prices continue to rise. Americans have less money in the bank and can never own even the house they live in. Help!! I am sorry, but I need Hope!!

Focus people, I pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America

She has proven that most Americans are ready for a woman as president, that she is as tough, or even tougher than some of the male candidates, and that she has what it takes to lead the country. Obama got a free ride from the press which has helped him and she got more unfounded criticism than all the candidates on both sides, combined.

  1. Anyone who supports Clinton cannot vote for McCain if Obama's the nominee ... the idea that "Clinton" supporters have said that sickens me. If you've supported Clinton and what she believes in (particularly around domestic issues like health care) you'd be going against those values to vote for McCain. He's a conservative, an uber-conservative and his strengths are not domestic issues and the economy - and he's admitted that himself. If you've supported Clinton, really, think twice before making those McCain remarks. Obama's and Clinton's actual ideas, their policies and what they stand for are so similar, and so different from McCain.

We have the Supreme Court at stake here people, get your heads out of your asses and think about your country!

  1. If this is true that Hillary is conceding,

GO MCCAIN!!!! You have my vote & that of numerous family & friends that will never vote for Obama & the repulsive Michelle!

As Michelle said about supporting HRC as the nominee, "I'll have to think about it."

I don't need to think about whether I'll support BHO. I WON'T. To paraphrase Michelle (speaking about Bill)--"I'd like to scratch her eyes out." Turnarbout is fair play.

  1. Bill is right, its almost like the left wing media is helping Mccain by supporting Obama. Check the electorial polling for the US at presidentelectionpolls dot com. Mccain wins by an astonishing 76 electorial votes in the national race against Obama, while on the other hand Hillary beats Mccain by an even more impressive 91 electorial votes. Dems really picked the weaker candidate. Looks like 4 more years for GOP. LOL

  1. Truman was a men's clothing store owner. The last president I remember that had experience was Lyndon Johnson. I didn't see that it helped him with the presidency that much.
Somehow America has managed to elect men who rose to the occasion.
All these attacks regarding religion and race appall me.
I cringe at the "dynasty" talk. No family should hold entitlement as a gene pool for presidency in America. And for Hilliary to even run with the Bully Billy ex prez there to promote really wasn't in line with the spirit of the two term rule.
I see a lack of sense of humor here.
I also see a lot of sore losers. To have a campaign and come together after it ends is the American way. Guess civics classes don't cover that naymore.

  1. Ok, let's face it, it's over. As much as I would love to have a woman president, Clinton simply did not convince me that she would or could change the current corrupt and dysfunctional climate in Washington. Obama is willing to and has shown his commitment to change clearly by keeping to the high road in this election--most recently, he has refused to demand that Clinton withdraw from the race and validates her right to fight on. He also consistently affirms that she is a strong and able candidate. These, among other things (like the good judgment to have opposed the war from the beginning) testify to his character and judgment. Finally, regarding the Rev. Wright controversy, I don't know ANYONE who agrees with absolutely everything his/her pastor has ever said. Do you?

So, you are willing to let americans die in Iraq for the next four years because you are a sore loser. What about McCain's supreme court appointments that will cause the loss of more civil liberties and end a woman's right to have an abortion.Meanwhile the economy will be impacted by the war and you will pay higher gas and food prices. So go ahead -vote for McCain that is proof of the stupidity of some clintonites.

Don't worry about the General. Obama is a superb campaigner, has tons more money that McCain and can get more from his grassroots supporters anytime he wants by just sending out an email. He has already proven that he will engage McC on any issue he wishes to put forward. Let the race begin!!!

  1. The longest lasting act of any U.S. President is the nomination of a Supreme Court Justice. This election's winner will have possibly FOUR nominations to make in the next four years. So - despite the fact that Obama and Clinton have similar jurisprudential philosophies and would ABSOLUTELY nominate from the same candidate list - you'll throw away choice, the enviroment, immigrant rights, national security issues, stemming corporate greed, etc., just because you are a sore loser?

  1. Well considering all the polling data out there either puts Obama ahead or tied with McCain, and Obama is just starting to run against McCain, where MC has had months long advantage in hitting Obama.. I think now we will start to see the polls further shift in Obama's favor, especially as the nation starts to realize a vote for McCain is a vote for Bush.

  1. Obama has fences to mend and will need to woo back the staunch Hillary supporters, many of whom now believe they won't live to see a woman president. I think the country is very cynical about the neocon performance in office and it will be up to Obama and the democrats to tie Bush tightly around McCain's neck. If the Dems unite behind Obama and run a strong campaign, Obama should win it.

Stupid, ignorant, pathetic, brain dead air-heads.
    ****************************************************************
This previous comment from an Obamoron is exactly why Barack Hussein Obama will LOSE in November. Yeah, this kind of rhetoric will play real well in the swing states of OH, PA, FL, IN.
Another tip--just because we'd rather vote for McCain, who is so moderate that a lot of the Repubs hate him, rather than Obama doesn't make us RACISTS!!! I just happen to think that Obama is a creation of David Axelrod, a tabula rasa , just like the very charming, if spectacularly inept Deval Patrick. 1. I am bemused by the Obama supporters in the press who continually voice their desires that the disaffected women and lunch bucket blue collar voters will come home because of the issues. I and others like me are so furious at Hillary's treatment that McCain does not look all that bad. He acknowledges global warming, stem cell research and has worked bipartisanly throughout his career. As to the Supremes, Joe Biden will not let a pro-life candidate through the Judiciary so that argument is moot. I'm a yellow-dog Democrat and the only way I'll consider voting for Obama is if he puts her on the ticket. He has to if he wants to win. His coalition doesn't begin to be big enough without her.

We need to balance the court during the rest of my lifetime, so I am voting democrat in the fall. Also, keep in mind that Obama will hopefully, and the key word here is "hopefully", understand he is inexperienced and appoint and surround himself with people with the type of experience that will turn this country around. Something I do not think the republican nominee is likely to do. So suck it up and vote Democratic in the fall

Every Clinton supporter I know personally has said he or she will vote Democratic in November. Some of them might be bitter now, but will they really vote for John "100 more years in Iraq" McCain? No way.

BTW I am _not_ an Obama supporter. I'm an independent and I supported McCain until he sold his independence to get the Religio-fascist Party nomination. I plan to vote for somebody else, probably Bob Barr, Libertarian Party.

  1. Hillary has been arguing like a lawyer with a losing case. She has pulled out all arguments to try to support her candidacy, even if disingenuous. She has been doing anything to win, and maybe getting the Lee Atwater and Karl Rove tactics out on Obama now will insulate him during the general election.
Hillary is better positioned than Obama to actually govern, but she would do it in the same old way, and probably with a bunch of Bill's retreads. Look at what happened with Bush's retreads like Cheney and Rumsfeld, who got to do this time what they couldn't with a tough Soviet Union. Imagine a Donna Shalala who still thinks the successful welfare reform of the 90's is a bad idea back in power, with a Democratic Congress? Big time tax increases.

Both McCain and Obama have stayed more closely on the issues, and have avoided the truly nasty personal attacks. McCain actually tried to call off the 529 attack dogs.

I am looking forward to maybe a real campaign on the issues by two candidates of personal character. I think both have run as clean a campaign as you can and actually win a nomination, pandering less than others have in the past. I think both represent a shift from the recent political nastiness, and long overdue. Hillary didn't win becuase she represents the Democratic side of the nasty political polarization we've had for at least the last 16 years.

  1. The only chance Obama has of winning the general election is if Clinton is the VP. Hillary knows this, and it is why she will not do it. She wants to be president and she believes that she can run again in 4 years, but only if McCain wins this election, which is what is going to happen. McCain is a 1 term president, he is to old to run for a second term and I believe he will alienate everyone who voted for him. Hillary is already planning for 2012, she will be running again. She stayed in the race long enough to get the deal that she needed from the DNC.

It's just to bad that a conservative has no one to vote for in this election.

  1. You Hillary supporters who say you're going to vote for McCain need to look at how similar Clinton and Obama are, and how very different the Democrats are from McCain. Both Democrats want to fix the economy and get out of the war, research new forms of energy, and fix healrthcare. McCain promises more of the same. Don't be rash and vote against Obama because you support Hillary. Even if you dislike Obama, he is surely the lesser of the two evils between himself and McCain. This country cannot afford 4 more years of a Republican president.

  1. I agree with #42, even though Obama hasn't been in the Senate long, he certainly couldn't be any worse than our current President. Given that he's a brilliant man, he has enormous potential to do a LOT of real good things for this country, which is the direct opposite of the nitwit we have for President now. Bush is the worst President this country has ever seen, bar none, so Obama would be a vast improvement.

As for you Democrats that are planning to vote for McCain because Clinton didn't win, SHAME ON YOU ALL!!! Didn't the election of Bush and his re-election teach you anything? Every vote counts!! If you really believe in the Democratic tenets, don't throw away your vote on McCain out of childish petulance, use your brain and vote for Obama, given how close his policies are to Clinton's.

Do you honesly think it makes any sense to vote for someone like McCain that is the virtual polar opposite to Clinton or Obama? Come on people, grow up!

  1. Those of you who "claim" to be Democrats and are considering voting for McCain belong to the same group of idiots who elected George Bush Jr. and Sr. Proof once again that too many Americans who vote don't have the common sense needed to cross the street safely. I'm a Clinton and Obama supporter because I know that either or both of them could lead this country in the direction we need. We need to bring our boys home, stabilize our economy and restore our reputation with the rest of the world. Votes for McCain will only send more of our sons and daughters to their deaths needlessly and continue the status quo of gas and oil company profits at unconscionable highs and continue the slide of the American economy! Do you remember the budget surplus Bill Clinton gave us? Wake up America - get off your high horse and use your brain. A "no" vote for Obama is your racist attitude coming through loud and clear.

  1. Sadly, if Hillary concedes, I can't vote for Barack Obama if he's the nominee and I'm an African-American! When people ask why I would vote for McCain over Obama, I simply say, policy issues aside, I actually believe John McCain, but I don't believe anything Barack Obama says. That's my gut and I have a right to vote it. Besides I think if Barack Obama wins it will be like Jimmy Carter all over again and it will set the democrats back for maybe another decade. He's weak and inexpericenced. An empty suit who should lead a movement rather than the country. So for the good of the party, it's probably better that he does lose so Hillary can run again in 2012 and that would be my plan and hope in voting for McCain.

You're going to pay for it and it will suck out every retirement penny have you saved.

    Good Luck with Obama.

It's ignorant people like you who are ruining this country. Obama has basically the same position on the issues as Clinton (Minus the gas tax holiday, which is a stupid idea.), so why wouldn't he be the candidate you vote for? Stop voting for arbitrary reason, look at the issues; this is why we have our current President.

    "Ohh he doesn't have experience"

Who's more likely to change things, someone who's been playing the same political game for the last 30 years or someone freash and new?

...and J.F.K was considered an inexperienced candidate.

  1. It is a relief that primary season finally seems to be ending. I think Hillary is wildly ambitious and deeply determined, so I'll believe her withdrawal when I see it.

Senator Obama can win in November if folks stop just jumping at the sound bites. What he brings to the contest is the charisma that mobilizes people. He can't run the country on his own. No one does. (Though Bush and Cheney seem to think they do.) He'll be working with his staff who will hopefully be more candid than the yes-men of the current administration.

If you're a Democrat who supports Hillary, don't just give up your vote to the Republicans if your candidate doesn't top the ticket. You support her because of what she represents to you : the promise of the possibility of America; the chance to get our government working for us again and a way to put the country in better standing with the rest of the world. That's what is important in November.

Let's remember that with a few more votes on the other side things could easily have been the other way around. We also need to realize that Bill was right about "the dream ticket," and that we need to bury any lingering animosity.

REAL Clinton supporters (and not the republical snakes who came out in droves to vote for her in the primaries) need to realize that Moose and others are right. It's the republicals who are trying to convince you that Obama is unelectable. There's nothing that scares the republicals more than Barak at the head of the ticket. It's comical because when hilary thought she didn't need MI or FL she agreed to the delegates not being seated. You remind me of that kid who lost so he took his ball and went home. Get over it. He won. Now look at the two candidates and make your choice based on their positions, not because your pissed off Hillary didn't win. I don't even say this as an Obama supporter. He wasn't my first choice either. I much prefered Edwards to either of these two, but it is what it is. I didn't start crying that now I'm voting for Bush lite because Edwards lost. The people (or super delegates but that's a whole nother story) have decided. MOVE ON>

  1. Are you really voting for McCain or not voting... just because Obama is "unelectable"? Does that make sense... to anyone?

Obama can do it, it's going to be a rough time period for everyone, but he's going to have a cabinet, he's going to have advisers,; experience isn't going to be a problem.... and he has the attitude to get America feeling good again.

It's too bad this bitter long race has convinced people of failure. Simmer down, folks; simmer down.

Hillary knows the workings of Washington, and would be able through politics (yes, politics) to get things done. Read Hillary's books. She was against Viet Nam when it wasn't even chic to be anti-war. She did what was right, not what people wanted to hear. Research her commencement speech from Wellesley. And, Hillary is not Bill. She is her own person.

  1. I think America needs a wake up call when it comes to " political experience" in the white house. So what if Obama doesn't have experience in certain affairs, look at the presidents who did and what it did to this country. I think it is time for CHANGE and a fresh outlook on foreign policy and other political dispositions would be good for this country. Maybe he could shed some light on what happened in Iraq and why so many Americans were misled into a war that a three years old great, great, great grandchildren will be paying for with there tax dollars 100 yrs from now.

I think Obama represents poor, rich, white, black, and everything else because he is apart of it all. I also think that is pastors have nothing to do with is character and he choose to leave the church to prove to the American people that he is for change. I hope Obama wins....because the country is going to go into a recession soon and we need someone with a fresh perspective to get things back into place.

We need someone that's going to help the poor and middle class the same way they can help the rich. If 300 million Americans vote for McCain...I'm moving the hell out of this country, because after the way we are paying for gas and food, I dont know why anyone would want to vote for this guy. His wife is rich so thats the social class he is going to look after....not any of us that work out behinds off to pay a mortgage and put food on the table...think about people...can we afford to make a mistake....twice

In part, that's the fault of the campaign fanaticals and how the media has been accomodating their vulgar and ignorant attitude to the process. But mrs Clinton and her husband also have been contributing to this sorry state of affairs; and I also hope that mr Obama gets wiser ad visors during the election and, hopefully, as president. Mrs Clinton's capabilities might be of good use, for instance as health secretary, but for God's sake keep her off foreign policy and such.

I just don't understand how you could just throw your hands up like that and say "well, because my democratic favorite isn't going to get the nomination, then I'm going to vote for someone on the complete opposite of the spectrum." Seriously? You would rather vote for McCain if Hillary doesn't win? Good decision, really. If Obama somehow does not get the nomination, there is no way in hell I would vote for McCain in retaliation, I would vote for the democrat that did get it, bc I don't think this country could manage to have another Republican in the White House who would tear this country down.

    2. Someone said that if Obama were voted for president he would be assasinated. This would go to prove who the real terrorists are.. If Osama were to plan to kill the president of America, wouldn't that be the best way to hit where it hurts. Though he wouldn't have to worry about that since the real terrorists would do that for him.

    3. Last but not least, whether Republican or Democrat or Liberal does not shield some of you from being illiterate RACIST rats. I find it insane how you want one Clinton but then when Clinton drops out you want Mccain who does not agree with Clinton on any of the issues. You're using your vote for spite and when you're suffering you will only be able to blame yourselves. You're the very same ones who hate Bush now and have been life long democrats but all the sudden you cannot vote for a black man. I guess Clinton's campaign has done a great good at lying and distorting someone's image for you.

That is a stupid remark claiming, I suppose, that white voters are racist!. How does that compare with the approximately 90% plus black voters who voted for Obama. All things considered the black votes for Hillary and Obama should have been closer except for one glaring observation...BLACK RACISM. Actually the white population has become less racist over the years than the black population. Imagine!

Why would you vote for a second Bush when there's a very good democrat that can actually turn this nation around for the better? Please people, put aside your personal biases and emotions and think about the greater good of this nation, then vote for the party who can turn things around for this great country. 1. Eight years of Democratic foreign policy and we ended up attacked. Someone forgot to read the preamble to the Constitution - this is what our federal government was originally set up to do: "provide for the common defense". Read Article 3 of the Articles of Confederation, which predated the Constitution (and a Federal Government), if you want to learn the intent of our forefathers. Ask a Sept. 11 victim if they think their govt let them down. Why any American would vote for a candidate that might return us to weak FP is beyond comprehension.

It's just another of many biased news items geared to scuttle Hillary Clinton, and con the American public into voting for Obama. The DNC, the party elite, and the mainstream media who have colluded to promote Obama are going to have a big surprise come November, when millions of disaffected Democrats pull the lever for John McCain, for the sake of their families and their country.

  1. This is going to be a part of the new Obama propaganda strategy; trying to make McCain look like another Bush. Astute political observers see through this as a naked political maneuver. Why do the Obama supporter think that McCain had such a hard time with the right wing of his party, if he was so right wing himself? And let's not forget that in 2004, Kerry asked McCain to be his running mate. No, McCain is not another Bush, and he is Obama's worst nightmare, in that he gives millions of Democrats a reasonable alternative to the inexperienced, deceptive, ruthless and divisive Obama.

I have no intention on voting for someone who I have no idea what he plans on doing when he takes office. Is he planning on changing the wallpaper in the oval office. If and when one of you tell me what he plans on changing could you also tell me how he plans to change things. The government doesn't run on inspiration rhetoric it runs through a calvacade of deals , compromises, soft touches, and hard touches, something a President with little to no experience in Washington is going to spend most of his 4 year term learning to do. End result is nothing gets done, and nothing CHANGES!

In the end, people will come to their senses and ask...

Do we want more of the same Bush policies or someone with new fresh ideas?

Also, don't think for a minute that Obama will not have a few senior ranking democtratic thinkers on his team.

    1. Doing it because your candidate lost (Clinton). Which makes you a foolish baby.

    2. Because you like the way things are and want things to remain the same, even though Clintons views are totally different. (remember many of clintons views mirror Obama's)

    3. You refuse to vote for Obama because he is black.

    (To name a few)

Its easy to see how you can draw a conclusion to the the third item when a fair amount of americans stated in exit polls that race matters when voting for president.

  1. Some Obama supporters say that Hillary supporters should support Obama rather than McCain because Obama’s policies are similar to Hillary’s. However, they are assuming that Obama's policy statements are the only issues in the election. Yes, Obama claims that his policies are very much like Hillary's, but being the most deceptive politician in my lifetime, how can we know if that's true. But more importantly, before you analyze anyone's policies, you must look at their character. Obama has shown, time and time again, to be deceptive, ruthless and divisive. If anything, Obama has shown himself to be more ruthless and dishonest than most. And, his 20 year allegiance to a racist and anti-American "mentor and spiritual adviser" destroys his pretense as a candidate who can bring America together. All we have left now, is a typical politician with little experience. For many of us, if the choice is between a centrist Republican (tempered by a Democratic House and Senate) and an inexperienced, deceptive, ruthless, and divisive Obama; we will vote for McCain. ******

“Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community. Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love.”

That being said - I am going to vote for Obama, as I have been a supporter since the NH primaries. There are a few reasons for that. One - I believe him, and I believe he believes his own words. Two - the John McCain of 5 years ago, when he truly was different from so many of the Republicans in office now - I may have voted for. I feel that he has "sold out" on many issues that are of importance to me. I have great respect for the service that he has given our country, politically, and especially in the armed forces.

There is never an easy answer to any of the issues that a President must face. I have to choose the one that I think is going to make life better for me, my family, and the world around us. And I don't think anyone completely agrees with every aspect of a candidate's platform. but we vote for someone we want to represent us, to lead us. For those readers who are changing their vote from Hillary to McCain, strictly because you are upset she lost, I urge you to reconsider. I think everyone should have an idea of which issues are important to them. Do your research. It's a shame so many people seem to be manipulated into their vote by the media and psuedo-reactions from people around them.

This may be one of the most important elections we face. The energy crisis, the faberge-egg-fragility of the economy, the war in Iraq (with a quick shout out to some friends serving overseas - we can't wait for you to come home safe!), the world perception of the U.S, the environment, social well-being.. this is an important time. I just hope people realize it, and do their HW.

And no, if McCain wins, I'm not going to cry and move to Canada. This is my home. I just want it to be as nice as possible.

  1. The powers that be do not want a women in the White House, they know that Hilary has more experience but they don't want it. Remember African-Americans got the vote in 1865, women did't get the right to vote until 1919. What does that tell you. My life was better under President Clinton, I do not understand why everyone thinks that Obama can do anything new and different. If the House and Congress don't like him, nothing he says or does will matter. Even Kennedy had problems, I remember you kids do not. People in this nation are so easily flimflammed, Bush is a perfect example. He lied to everyone, and it has been proven. What he did to that wonderful man General Colin Powell, a great man, dishonered. See I am not prejudiced I know good stuff when I see it. Obama isn't it.

  1. ATTENTION ETYMOLOGISTS: Due to recent events, Merriam-Webster has modified the definition of the words “racism” and “racist.” All modifications are indicated by quotes.

1 : a belief “by racist white people” that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race

2 : racial prejudice or discrimination “as perpetrated by racist white people”

    3. : “a reluctance to support Barack Obama’s Presidential candidacy”

    4. : “any attempt to bring to light or expose accurate information which would serve to damage the credibility or reputation of Barack Obama”

  1. Why do people say Obama is experienced, but not Hillary? The only electoral office she's ever held is US Senator, since 2000. Obama has held actual political office since 1996.

Hillary has also served on the boards of major corporations (including Wal-mart), while Obama has worked to organize voters in Chicago since 1991. He serves on the board of a Chicago non-profit, as well as working as a lawyer and professor of Constitutional Law. Hillary, uh, was married to a guy that served in a bunch of political offices.

    Who has more experience again?

Hot on the heels of his explanation for why he no longer wears a flag pin, presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama was forced to explain why he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.

According to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171...... During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart.

'As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides,' Obama said. 'There are a lot of people in
the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem itself conveys a war like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like to Teach the World to
Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute it.'

WHAAAAAAAT!!!!!!!! !! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this could possibly be our next president. I, for one, am speechless . .

  1. PEOPLE KEEP SAYING THAT BARACK OBAMA SHOULD NOT BE THE PRESIDENT , TRUTH BE TOLD HE IS SMARTER THEN ALL OF YOU PUT TOGETHER BECAUSE HE BELEIVES IN HIS COUNTRY AND THOSE WHO RESIDE IT. THIS COUNTRY NEEDS A CHANGE BECAUSE AFTER THE LAST 8 YEARS THIS COUNTRY COULD BE A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY. YOU PEOPLE HAVE NO HOPE WHEN YOU CANNOT SEE A FUTURE. STOP BEING SO NEGATIVE EVERYONE DESERVES A CHANCE YOU FOOLS GAVE BUSH A SECOND CHANCE AND WHAT PROMISES DID HE KEEP, BESIDES KEEPING THE WAR GOING AND AMERICANS BROKE AND A SHAMED. TO GIVE THE WHITE HOUSE OVER TO SOMEONE THAT VOWS THAT THINGS WILL NOT CHANGE IS PLAIN STUPID AND IGNORANT ON YOUR PART.

  1. What a disaster this election is going to be....this is sad actually. If the candidates hid their faces and posted resumes instead, I can assure you OBAMA WOULD NEVER HAVE GOTTEN THE CHANCE to even run for the democratic nominee. This is a job people!! not a popularity contest. Obama and his Afro-cliques make me sick. All the blacks turned on Clinton just so they could see a darker figure hold office. McCain might be old and wear depends but Obamas got on huggies. This cat is way to young and inexperienced.

  1. OBAMA in 08'!!!! Thank you Hilary for bowing out...best thing you've done thus far!!!

  1. Hillary STILL is the BEST candidate and the stronger person to take on John McCain. Those are the facts. Preacher Obama has all the right words to raise the hopes and blood pressure of his audience.... he sounds like a black preacher. The democrats have lost the November election - they made their choice and will have to live with the consequences. Interesting how Obama "won" tonight and all the commentators and analysts are talking Clinton. I find that very interesting. Obama has too many vulnerabilities and needs a huge makeover before the general. Doubt that it will take tho with McCain and the Republicans going after him. He had it easy up to this point. Now we'll see what a regular old Chicago-style politician he really is. The mask will come off!!

  1. To Sarah F (Post 192)

Not to make a comparison, but JFK was 44 when he became president. Obama is 45 so how is he way to young.

Also, George Bush was Gov for 6 years in TX and is a moron. What qualified him to be president?

Come on now. Years of service does not always make you better suited to lead. It does make you more hardened and less likely to change.

Your statement about "afro-cliques" and wanting to see a "darker figure" is why there will always be innuendo about racists and racism in this debate. I will vote Obama not because he is black but because he is smart, a visionary and will bring fresh ideas instead of the old stale stuff that McCain has been toting around for the last 40 years.

As for Hillary she is pigheaded and a sore loser as she showed last night and why 60% of people poled suggest Obama should not take her as a running mate.

    Think About it....

  1. These are the same arguments that "Clintonites" continue to push. Where are these alleged credentials that she posseses? She is a SECOND term senator, nothing else. Experience is not sleeping with the president! Seriously, what has she done, EVER? And she has the audacity to ask for money last night? Even if I was a HRC supporter, which I'm not, why on earth would I donate to her campaign now? To pay off her debts? I will do that when she agrees to pay off my mortgage, because I've got debts too!

  1. I have a feeling this election is going to end up like the last one. The better person winning and the sore loser demanding a recall (in this case Obama). Get over yourselves, Obama doesn't stand a chance!

....and hillary (small h) don't come back!!!!!!!!!!
