Clinton preparing graceful exit?
After a day full of conflicting signals, Hillary Clinton's campaign seems to be sending clearer ones today -- that she will gracefully exit the stage and won't take her fight to the convention.
The Associated Press is reporting that she plans to acknowledge in her speech tonight that Barack Obama has the delegates for the nomination. The AP is also saying advisers have said that Clinton has made a strategic decision to suspend her campaign and not formally end it, giving her leverage to negotiate with Obama on various matters including a possible vice presidential nomination for her. She also wants to press him on issues he should focus on in the fall, such as health care.
The Clinton campaign, however, is denying the AP report. "The AP story is incorrect. Senator Clinton will not concede the nomination this evening," the statement said.
Clinton campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe did say this morning that once Obama reaches the majority of delegates, "I think Hillary Clinton will congratulate him and call him the nominee."
McAuliffe had been among those as late as Monday excoriating the Democratic National Committee rules committee's decision on the disputed Florida and Michigan delegates and reserving the right to appeal the ruling.
But on NBC's "Today" show this morning, he said, "I don't think she's going to go to the credentials committee."
And the New York Times reported today that Clinton is prepared to give what aides are calling a farewell speech tonight summing up her candidacy.

YAY
ITS ABOUT TIME!
Well, I guess I'll be voting for McCain then...
Doesn't matter. McCain is going to beat Obama. Obama may get like 5 states at the MOST! Good job Democrats, thanks again for nominating a LOSING candidate.
i did not expect this, she said, till the bitter end,,,
She shouldn't quit. Obama is not electable; he shows poor judgment and poor character by association. His nomination is the result of the Republican manipulation of our media and in the end, the Republicans will eat him for breakfast.
Nice going Democrats, you've lost the White House again.
I'll believe it when I see it.
I honestly think that she would like Obama to lose to McCain, and staying in this race could help her sabotage him. But she still may consider her own career. Perhaps she doesn't want to be a pariah.
I really hope there is no deal to make her VP. That would be crushing.
No such thing as a graceful exit for Hillary..
I'll be voting for her regardless, even if it is a write in.
Sad news, democrats have once again set themselves up for another November loss. The only way they can win in a national election is if Hillary is on the ticket, I hope they at least get that right.
Hilary should stay in the race through the convention! Obama is not qualified, lacks experience to lead this Nation,at this very important time. He may talk the talk, but their is no substance behind it!!!!
Better late then never. Obama give her a cabinet post but not the V.P
Do you really believe that Republicans, Conservatives, manipulate the media?
Then you probably believe that Hollywood writers are purely interested in morality and traditional family values......
ITS ABOUT TIME.
Now we can focus on winning the REAL election. Obama for president!!!
And those who think Obama is gonna lose, oh ye of little faith, did anyone think he was gonna get this far in the 1st place?
At least Hillary taught us one thing: it ain't over till it's over! And right now, it's just beginning!
Too bad American voters don't get the big picture!!
Yawn. According to pollster.com Obama sacks McCain in the electoral college.
For June 3rd, the tally is Obama 283, McCain 255.
For races within 10 points, 15 are red states and 6 are blue states (in the toss-up category).
Those of you Democrats going to vote for McSame? Hope you like Bush...a LOT.
Don't become a Lieberman, fools.
Negotiating a VP nomination for herself? It's been her plan all along to use every possible device to wrangle the nomination for herself, including this entire Florida-Michigan nonsense. Now she thinks she can convince voters that Obama's the right man for the job when all this time she's been saying the opposite? And that will come across as genuine to voters?
Sorry folks but this was BS news she aint quitting it was just announced. Let's catch up now and tell the real news friggin lie spewing press. AP prob got mis-information from Obama's campaign!
I agree with 8. I will vote for her as a write in and not vote for Kerry. Put her name in both places, president & senator.
If Obama is the Democrats running mate then my house whole will not be voting in Nov. 2008 .
Hillary is the one that can beat McCain in Nov. This county is in for more troubling days ahead if McCain gets in office..
First off, ignore the paid GOP comment makers trying to tell you Obama is unelectable.
Secondly, check out pollster.com to see who is winning what states.
Thirdly, once McCain has the media pressure on him I expect Obama's popularity to go way way up.
Who the f*** do you think you are voting for McCain or writing in for Hillary? I respect those who are angry that she lost and have doubts about Obama, but he and Hillary have the SAME policy positions, while McCain has very conservative positions. Do you CARE about this country?
Sooo emotional.
"I going to vote for McCain, then." Sound's like someone's feelings is hurt - be a grown up and vote based on upcoming debates, relevant information between the two nominated candidates, etc.... Not because you just dislike the team that beat yours.
Its ok in sports, but when we are talking about running a country...lets not be so illogical. Why would you vote for someone who's views are more different than the same? You are actually hurting yourself (well if you picked the candidate based on their position within the issues...I give you that benefit of the doubt)
Come on. Time to move on.
Every one of the 3 candidates for president has his/her weaknesses and strengths. If Obama is the guy for the Dems, then they had better wage a fierce, hardnosed fight -- just as hard and nasty as the 'publicans do -- and that should do it. They better not run a campaign like our Duke did in 1988 or Gore or Kerry: no more wimping out for dems! The issues are pretty clear for voters -- 4 more years of disaster or a new direction -- as long as the dems can make sure that that message isn't buried under all the usual #$%^^& the 'publicans throw at 'em, they should win.
Yeah, it's about time, though I don't really agree with "snm" who posted a few minutes ago. The Republicans would have eaten either of them for breakfast. If the democrats want a chance to win this election and restore order to the galaxy by ousting the no good GOP, they need to run a smart campaign for once instead of letting the Republicans walk all over them. I mean really, they don't have anything to brag about, the country is in the toliet right now, so make sure the public knows that!
Well, looks like McCain will be our next president. I dont think the US is ready for a black president. If he does win, he will more than likely be assasinated by someone.
Tsk Tsk......Such misplaced and subjective speculation. Obama/Clinton ticket will crush the opposition, without question.
These democrat idiots saying they'll rather vote Mc Cain than Obama are simply RACISTS. Sadly and predictably, they're far too cowardly to mention this as a reason they'll rather vote Republican.
Stupid, ignorant, pathetic, brain dead air-heads.
A word to the wise forma life long Democrat. Obama supporters best be careful how they treat Hillary supporters if he is the nominee, which he appears to be. This will be an extrmemly fragile period of time for the Obama cam paign he will wil undoubtably need Clinton's Base to even come close to winning the general.
Picking Hilliary for his VP will doom Obama...he will not win ..and even if he did win..he would be doomed...at the best would be like living in Mother In Law's house with Billarys there.
Hilliary wouldnt' win if she were nominated...as long as Bill is along. Vanity Fair is just the tip of the iceberg of what will come out on him.
But wisdom is not a trait the Clintons have. Cunning, maybe. She is not dropping out. I am afraid that she could go to the convention and in a floor fight end up with nomination. And if not her someone other then Obama. Sad.
She can't invite people to her huse.. they wold see all the white house treasures she stole from there.
Hopefully, she is merely suspending her campaign for now. Otherwise, we Democrats are screwed because the other shoe is about to fall on Obama. Hide and watch his candidacy go up in smoke. [W]rightfully so too, I must add. Here's one girl who won't forget!!! Bye, bye, Democratic Party.
Barrack Obama is going to make history in November !!
I can't wait to say " I told you so ! "
To bad we now don't have a good candidate worth voting for or being President.
So sad that the democrats are going to give the election to a Jr. Bush. There is no way that Obama will win. Doesn't anyone realize that we live in the United States of America and as much as we would like to believe it... this is not the "land of the free" and surely isn't a country that will let an African America sit in the oval office, unless its to clean the furniture!
I sure hope not. Obama can not win against McCain and my pocketbook can't stand another 4 years of a Republican in as President. I think she should stay the course!
Hillary is an out of control control freak. Maybe this defeat will do her some good.
good ridence to a low life liar
now let's hope obama doesn't end like Vince Foster!!!!
The last time we elected a Senator as President was John Kennedy, and he was an experienced senator. Have we ever elected to be President of the United States an inexperienced senator who was a state legislator three years ago? Not ever -- and why would 300 million American voters do such a foolish thing? Not when John McCain -- with 30 more years of experience, as well as being a veteran -- is ready to serve his country, finally.
If she can find grace with which to finish her botched and painful campaign, she might be able to save the legacy of the Clintons which until she entered this race with entitlement and deceit (oops, "misspeaks" (gunfire); broken promises (Michigan and Florida); disrespect (thinking voters would fall for her gas break) was something worth treasuring. She has made history as the first viable woman candidate. That she was not the best candidate, woman or not, does not deflect from that big step. Ironically, she rode a ticket of "return to the past" when the nation craved change. If she can back Obama, who had the good sense to run a bottom up campaign, and urge her supporters to follow, she may even leave a less than sour taste in voters' mouths. But I fear she fueled the irrational wrath of supporters who will vote for McCain because they didn't get Hillary and care less for the good of this country than their own disappointment. Time will tell if grace is possible for this old time feminist who may find grace (the kind Obama exudes) too unmanly for her...
Perhaps we should step back and look at these three lessons from George W Bush:
1) Bush shows us: Every time is an important time for the nation. It looked like smooth sailing (except for the tech bubble), but no.
2) Presidencies should not run in the family. There's a little too much baggage. (e.g., Cheney)
3) You don't need experience to be elected President. Obama may not have as much experience is H. Clinton, but GWB had even less.
I can't believe I'm going to be forced to vote for Mccain.......blaurgh.
Well, I guess I'll be voting for McCain then...
"he shows poor judgment and poor character by association." " is not qualified, lacks experience to lead this Nation,at this very important time. He may talk the talk, but their is no substance behind it!!!!"
WOW!! These quotes aptly describe the current guy in office. OBAMA couldn't possibly do a worse job than a lying cheating son of president whose own people are in awe of his incompetence.(not counting those who have made billions, off a war with no valid purpose)
Amen, Alleluia! How long O, Lord have we put up with it. Obama is a stronger candidate, proposing the change and American ideals that will bring the US to its former status, i.e., a great world leader. We've lost so much in the past 8 years. And McCain, he doesn't have a chance.
Shed be dissapointing half of the population that voted for her. Shed be caving to the manipulation of Obamas claims of (false/premature) victory and she'd let the supers off the hook for their choices which went against the will of their voters.
I guess theirs always McCain.
Obama has 6 whole months to prove just how electable he really is. McCain and Clinton have shadier pasts with association than he does, his is just younger.
LOL!!!
STEP ASIDE MCBUSH!!! IT'S OBAMA TIME!!!!
WOO-HOOOOO!!!
Too bad - the Democrats are giving away the White House. Hillary can win the general election - Obama does not have the experience and that will be illustrated during the fall.
Any Clinton supporter who chooses to vote for John McCain out of spite is voting for a PRO-LIFE candidate who will probably get to nominate a couple of Supreme Court justices during his term. If that's what you want...
I hope that she continues her campaign, however, thirty years ago I made the prediction in a college class that a black man would be elected president before a woman. This society has to stop discriminating against women, especially smart women, once and for all!
Obama has used his charm and race, rather than substance, to get his votes. Hillary has been the trailblazer for all, and unfortunately, voters are not looking at the issues in depth. Shame on us. For that, we deserve another Republican war monger in the White House!
Obama will win more states than she ever would. He can bring in Republicans, she cannot. This is NOW a different race. Why do you think all the Repubs loved her now, they wanted to run against her, and win!!! It did not take a rocket scientist to figure it out. Just to win against the Clinton machine means this guy is a big winner and has what it takes!
Looks like the furniture in the Lincoln Bedroom is safe, hopefully this is the last time my deal with a Clinton running for the Whitehouse.
Congratulations John McCain on the Presidency.
When the alternative is a third term for a president with approval in the twenties, I am pretty sure anyone short of Carrot Top is electable. Clinton should have been gone months ago, and the Dems will roll up in November just like they have in those three special house elections. Obama is a better candidate, always has been a better candidate and the only reason he appears weaker is because the Clinton's have pulled out every single one of their dirty tricks because they are graceless political pigs who have no idea how to lose, even when they are clearly beaten. Once he is clear of the underhanded smear campaign perpetrated by the Clintons (Anyone notice how very Karl Rovian their tactics are?) Obama will gain momentum and roll over McCain.
Have fun voting for McCain. Fools. Simply fools.
I think what Obama is going to do tonight is endorse Hillary's healthcare mandate with some twists to make sure it's done right. He will ask her to lead this effort, but stop waay short of having her be VP. With her fighting for passage in the Senate, they will be unstoppable.
Hillary will hurt Obama as a VP choice. He needs to pick someone with executive and military experience from the midwest or west. I think a woman might help him, but it's not necessary for him to win. Plus two "minorities" might be too much for many Americans.
Hillary should have "gracefully exited" weeks ago! Thanks for messing up a great opportunity to get our country on track!
To all those who say Obama is unelectable, or is a poor candidate, and that they'll vote for McCain if Clinton isn't the Democratic nominee: you have let yourselves be manipulated by the right-wing noise machine and are being played for suckers. If McCain beats Obama, you're as much to blame as the right-wing liars themselves. People continue to fall for the right wing's dishonest tactics, such as out-of-context quotes, spins that twist a candidate's message into sounding like something very different from what he said, focusing on superficial non-issues, and yes, outright lies, so Karl Rove and others like him continue to use those tactics. Try reading Obama's book, listen to the candidates directly instead of just hearing sound bites about what other people are saying about them, and you'll get a truer picture.
Bit late for a graceful exit, that would have been several weeks. Now she just looks like a spent rabid dog.
I was going to vote for Hillary, as a baby boomer I remember the golden years of the Clinton white house, as a black american I remember feeling like someone cared about issues that were important to me. Now, I am going to vote for Obama, I was very disappointed in Hillary going to extremes to try and win the nomination, dividing the Country and the Democratic party.
I love america and it is more important to me to live in a Nation where my children can grew up united, in prosperity, able to excel to the highest attainable office in the nation, than it is to fight against one another and continue this downward spiral we are in.
Our dollar is only worth 75 cents, Gas $4.00 a gallon, House values dropping while food prices continue to rise. Americans have less money in the bank and can never own even the house they live in. Help!! I am sorry, but I need Hope!!
Focus people, I pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America
and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible,
with Liberty and Justice for all.
Can't these words ever mean anything to all Americans.
I find it EXTREMLY unlikely that Sen. Clinton will either "step down" tonight
or throw her support behind Se. Obama tonight.
Perhaps later this month...but NOT tonight.
PEACE
John From Cape Cod
Our next President!
The finest example of statesmanship the world can expect!
He will definitely make us proud!

I will NOT vote for McCain and see this deadly war go on. If Hillary does drop out, I will have to vote for Obama and hope he will have good enough advisors to do a terrific job. If there was some kind of a national referendum to write in Hillary and there was a good chance it could work???....I would definitley write her in. Who is going to help the average people of our country???
This will be the first time I have voted for a republican president. I'm 62.
I really do not understand how a Hillary backer can even consider voting for McCain? Are you really that angry that Obama is leading? I would never vote for McCain for any reason. If McCain is elected it will be more Iraq and possibly an Iran war and more of Bush's failed policies. Democrats must support Democrats, not jump ship out of anger.
Hello John McCain - the next president of the U.S.!
I'll miss you Hillary - you're the best
You can tell Clinton pulls her core support from the least educated members of our society.
"WAAAA, if my lying, corrupt, rule changing candidate can't steal the nomination, I'll vote McSame!"
No one cares about your impotent threats to treat you with the respect you obviously don't deserve.
Not even a cabinet post for Hillary. Obama will offer her a job as janitor at the White House.
Obama will be clinching a stolen nomination with MI delegates he hijacked. The endorsements from superdelegates have no integrity and are irresponsible.
No doubt Obama will be defeated in November when he will crash and burn and the Democratic Party will be a train wreck.
I will work for his resounding defeat and vote for McCain in a swing state. Obama, his supporters, and the DNC must be "punished" for not playing fair and square.
Superdelegates have a responsibility to endorse Sen. Clinton as the best qualified and the strongest presidential candidate to defeat McCain and win the general election in a landslide victory hands down.
The AP ran a FALSE story. Hillary has been robbed of delegates, and should take this all the way to Denver.
Tarik,it is not about damaging Obama and his chances against McCain. It is about fairness and upholding what is right and democratic. I encourage you to research what happened in Michigan. You tell me, is the decision they reached equitable and just? I think not.
Obama voluntarily withdrew his name from Michigan's race, and therefore should get no delegates from that state.
This is the Democratic party's best chance to take back the White House. If some Hillary supporters want to vote for McPuppet that's their choice but folks the bandwagon is now leaving the station...hop on & do yourself a favor and drop the 20th c. baggage. It's a new century, folks. Time to turn the page.
Iam now sure that the Dems will win and OBAMA WILL BE IN THE WHITE HOUSE AS PRESIDENT OF THE USA come january
If Obama is the democratic nominee, then the only way the democrats will get my vote is on an Obama/Clinton ticket. Otherwise, my vote (if there is one) will go to McCain.
Her camp is denying it. I think the media is trying to force her to quit. Even if it's true, I am so grateful to her for what she's done for this campaign and for women in this country. She has proven that most Americans are ready for a woman as president, that she is as tough, or even tougher than some of the male candidates, and that she has what it takes to lead the country. Obama got a free ride from the press which has helped him and she got more unfounded criticism than all the candidates on both sides, combined.
Too much media bias! Too much miscogyny! Too much black racism! Those are the reasons Hillary stumbled. However, the race was closer than expected. I can't wait for moveon.org, or Obama's campaign staff, or the DNC call or write asking for the same support and money that I gave Hillary. I doubt they will call or write me again! And yes, I am voting for McCain if Hussein is the nominee. Actually McCain is more of a centrist than Bush or Obama (literal opposites) every thought of being. i can live with that.
One of the posters here wrote, “i did not expect this, she said, till the bitter end,,,.” Hello, this is the bitter end. Actually the end came some time ago, but we won’t quibble about that.
All the dumba---- saying they will vote for "McCain the Pain" will go down the drain with McCain if he wins and if he lasts 4 years. Also you will have the blood of our young fighting men and women that will lose their lives in Iraq on your hands and for what?, for oil and Iraqi greed over the next four years for your ignorant and twisted voting judgement.
Anyone who supports Clinton cannot vote for McCain if Obama's the nominee ... the idea that "Clinton" supporters have said that sickens me. If you've supported Clinton and what she believes in (particularly around domestic issues like health care) you'd be going against those values to vote for McCain. He's a conservative, an uber-conservative and his strengths are not domestic issues and the economy - and he's admitted that himself. If you've supported Clinton, really, think twice before making those McCain remarks. Obama's and Clinton's actual ideas, their policies and what they stand for are so similar, and so different from McCain.
How could anyone possibly go from supporting Clinton to supporting McCain??? I am an Obama supporter but even if Hillary was able to convince all the supers to change their minds and nominate her I would still vote for her over McCain! We have the Supreme Court at stake here people, get your heads out of your asses and think about your country!
If this is true that Hillary is conceding,
GO MCCAIN!!!! You have my vote & that of numerous family & friends that will never vote for Obama & the repulsive Michelle!
As Michelle said about supporting HRC as the nominee, "I'll have to think about it."
I don't need to think about whether I'll support BHO. I WON'T. To paraphrase Michelle (speaking about Bill)--"I'd like to scratch her eyes out." Turnarbout is fair play.
Bill is right, its almost like the left wing media is helping Mccain by supporting Obama. Check the electorial polling for the US at presidentelectionpolls dot com. Mccain wins by an astonishing 76 electorial votes in the national race against Obama, while on the other hand Hillary beats Mccain by an even more impressive 91 electorial votes. Dems really picked the weaker candidate. Looks like 4 more years for GOP. LOL
Truman was a men's clothing store owner. The last president I remember that had experience was Lyndon Johnson. I didn't see that it helped him with the presidency that much.
Somehow America has managed to elect men who rose to the occasion.
All these attacks regarding religion and race appall me.
I cringe at the "dynasty" talk. No family should hold entitlement as a gene pool for presidency in America. And for Hilliary to even run with the Bully Billy ex prez there to promote really wasn't in line with the spirit of the two term rule.
I see a lack of sense of humor here.
I also see a lot of sore losers. To have a campaign and come together after it ends is the American way. Guess civics classes don't cover that naymore.
If
TIME TO VOTE FOR ROBERT BARR IN 08 that's right folks, better to go Libertarian than vote any of these three yahoos into office. have a nice life with your louse choices
Go ahead, cast your vote for the Old Man, and Bush's third term...You are all sickos.........You are all WHINIES....and I am SICK of you Clintons. You are all pathological, just like her.......
Ok, let's face it, it's over. As much as I would love to have a woman president, Clinton simply did not convince me that she would or could change the current corrupt and dysfunctional climate in Washington. Obama is willing to and has shown his commitment to change clearly by keeping to the high road in this election--most recently, he has refused to demand that Clinton withdraw from the race and validates her right to fight on. He also consistently affirms that she is a strong and able candidate. These, among other things (like the good judgment to have opposed the war from the beginning) testify to his character and judgment. Finally, regarding the Rev. Wright controversy, I don't know ANYONE who agrees with absolutely everything his/her pastor has ever said. Do you?
So, you are willing to let americans die in Iraq for the next four years because you are a sore loser. What about McCain's supreme court appointments that will cause the loss of more civil liberties and end a woman's right to have an abortion.Meanwhile the economy will be impacted by the war and you will pay higher gas and food prices. So go ahead -vote for McCain that is proof of the stupidity of some clintonites.
How about Obama/Rendell?? Thoughts? Pennsylvania will vote for Ed Rendell no matter what he runs for! He is crazy popular here in PA and even Hillary hold outs might dry thier eyes and cast a vote for Obama if he is on the ticket.(Trying to bring this thread up out of the schoolyard.)
Don't worry about the General. Obama is a superb campaigner, has tons more money that McCain and can get more from his grassroots supporters anytime he wants by just sending out an email. He has already proven that he will engage McC on any issue he wishes to put forward. Let the race begin!!!
OBAMA 08 GO DEMS!!!
The longest lasting act of any U.S. President is the nomination of a Supreme Court Justice. This election's winner will have possibly FOUR nominations to make in the next four years. So - despite the fact that Obama and Clinton have similar jurisprudential philosophies and would ABSOLUTELY nominate from the same candidate list - you'll throw away choice, the enviroment, immigrant rights, national security issues, stemming corporate greed, etc., just because you are a sore loser?
Well considering all the polling data out there either puts Obama ahead or tied with McCain, and Obama is just starting to run against McCain, where MC has had months long advantage in hitting Obama.. I think now we will start to see the polls further shift in Obama's favor, especially as the nation starts to realize a vote for McCain is a vote for Bush.
Obama has fences to mend and will need to woo back the staunch Hillary supporters, many of whom now believe they won't live to see a woman president. I think the country is very cynical about the neocon performance in office and it will be up to Obama and the democrats to tie Bush tightly around McCain's neck. If the Dems unite behind Obama and run a strong campaign, Obama should win it.
These democrat idiots saying they'll rather vote Mc Cain than Obama are simply RACISTS. Sadly and predictably, they're far too cowardly to mention this as a reason they'll rather vote Republican.
Stupid, ignorant, pathetic, brain dead air-heads.
****************************************************************
This previous comment from an Obamoron is exactly why Barack Hussein Obama will LOSE in November. Yeah, this kind of rhetoric will play real well in the swing states of OH, PA, FL, IN.
Another tip--just because we'd rather vote for McCain, who is so moderate that a lot of the Repubs hate him, rather than Obama doesn't make us RACISTS!!! I just happen to think that Obama is a creation of David Axelrod, a tabula rasa , just like the very charming, if spectacularly inept Deval Patrick. (Who this "racist" & her racist husband voted for, BTW.
I am bemused by the Obama supporters in the press who continually voice their desires that the disaffected women and lunch bucket blue collar voters will come home because of the issues. I and others like me are so furious at Hillary's treatment that McCain does not look all that bad. He acknowledges global warming, stem cell research and has worked bipartisanly throughout his career. As to the Supremes, Joe Biden will not let a pro-life candidate through the Judiciary so that argument is moot. I'm a yellow-dog Democrat and the only way I'll consider voting for Obama is if he puts her on the ticket. He has to if he wants to win. His coalition doesn't begin to be big enough without her.
Marilyn Hayes
I am a hillary backer but let's not lose sight of what's important here. There are at least three supreme court nominations at stake over the next couple of years. We need to balance the court during the rest of my lifetime, so I am voting democrat in the fall. Also, keep in mind that Obama will hopefully, and the key word here is "hopefully", understand he is inexperienced and appoint and surround himself with people with the type of experience that will turn this country around. Something I do not think the republican nominee is likely to do. So suck it up and vote Democratic in the fall
All you Clintonistas that are crying and threating to vote for McSame... go right ahead. Obama is going to win in a landslide with or without your votes. Seriously, it's going to be a rout.
Why on earth would you vote for McCain simply because you don't like Obama.
He is a REPUBLICAN and his views sit in stark contrast to the views of BOTH DEMOCRATIC candidates.
Please people, use the brain that you were born with and don't doom this country to another four years of REPUBLICAN dogma.
-Regards,
"Obama and his campaign are true professionals". Look at the job he and his team did. He beat her fair and square"not by cheating"... I am a true democrat but honestly he outsmart and outthink hillary. All those folks who like to say " I will vote Mcain then" ????? What the F***...Calm down and do a little soul searching that why would you say stuff like that. It sounds dumb very very dumb...think about it...just really think about it before you F*** YOURSELF! Obama has his $hit together and he will swallow Mcain, Bet on it.
Most of the people saying "Too bad, I guess I will vote for McCain" are Republican shills.
Every Clinton supporter I know personally has said he or she will vote Democratic in November. Some of them might be bitter now, but will they really vote for John "100 more years in Iraq" McCain? No way.
BTW I am _not_ an Obama supporter. I'm an independent and I supported McCain until he sold his independence to get the Religio-fascist Party nomination. I plan to vote for somebody else, probably Bob Barr, Libertarian Party.
If us democrats want to sit here and say, congrats democratic party on electing another losing democrat, we have to think about our own intentions and wonder if we have the ability to rise above our individual emotions for the good of the party. I have a feeling Obama can move us in the direction WE want to go in, instead of four more years of Bush before Hillary can have another shot.
Post #18 thinks Kerry is in this election! Says all you need to know about the HRC die-hard set. Just a bunch of political fanboys. No chance you'll understand the stakes if you don't even know what year it is.
Hillary has been arguing like a lawyer with a losing case. She has pulled out all arguments to try to support her candidacy, even if disingenuous. She has been doing anything to win, and maybe getting the Lee Atwater and Karl Rove tactics out on Obama now will insulate him during the general election.
Hillary is better positioned than Obama to actually govern, but she would do it in the same old way, and probably with a bunch of Bill's retreads. Look at what happened with Bush's retreads like Cheney and Rumsfeld, who got to do this time what they couldn't with a tough Soviet Union. Imagine a Donna Shalala who still thinks the successful welfare reform of the 90's is a bad idea back in power, with a Democratic Congress? Big time tax increases.
Both McCain and Obama have stayed more closely on the issues, and have avoided the truly nasty personal attacks. McCain actually tried to call off the 529 attack dogs.
I am looking forward to maybe a real campaign on the issues by two candidates of personal character. I think both have run as clean a campaign as you can and actually win a nomination, pandering less than others have in the past. I think both represent a shift from the recent political nastiness, and long overdue. Hillary didn't win becuase she represents the Democratic side of the nasty political polarization we've had for at least the last 16 years.
The only chance Obama has of winning the general election is if Clinton is the VP. Hillary knows this, and it is why she will not do it. She wants to be president and she believes that she can run again in 4 years, but only if McCain wins this election, which is what is going to happen. McCain is a 1 term president, he is to old to run for a second term and I believe he will alienate everyone who voted for him. Hillary is already planning for 2012, she will be running again. She stayed in the race long enough to get the deal that she needed from the DNC.
It's just to bad that a conservative has no one to vote for in this election.
If Democrats are going to vote McCain because Hillary didn't get the nomination then this country will deserve what it gets -- Bush III -- a warmonger who thinks the economy is doing okay because the rich are getting richer. Clinton and Obama are almost identical on the issues. Maybe the Mayans were right about 2012.
ALL YOU PEOLPLE WHO MADE YOUR COMMENTS HERE.............DO YOU ALL REALLY WANT TO HELP CHANGE THINGS IN AMERICA..OR DO YOU ALL JUST DON'T WANT A BLACK MAN AS PRESIDENT.....WHAT IS YOU ALL'S PROBLEM
Comment #5 You are delusional to say the least. ... Obama not electable? He has poor judgement and character by association???? Hello? what then is Hillary doing with Bill after Lewinski? She too should be guilty of poor judgement and character by association. At least Obama left the church... Hillary is still there!! She's an OPPORTUNIST too .... Do you know what that means? look it up dummy!
Hillary has been arguing like a lawyer with a losing case. She has pulled out all arguments to try to support her candidacy, even if disingenuous. She has been doing anything to win, and maybe getting the Lee Atwater and Karl Rove tactics out on Obama now will insulate him during the general election.

You Hillary supporters who say you're going to vote for McCain need to look at how similar Clinton and Obama are, and how very different the Democrats are from McCain. Both Democrats want to fix the economy and get out of the war, research new forms of energy, and fix healrthcare. McCain promises more of the same. Don't be rash and vote against Obama because you support Hillary. Even if you dislike Obama, he is surely the lesser of the two evils between himself and McCain. This country cannot afford 4 more years of a Republican president.
Looks like Hillary's disinformation has permeated the Boston.com readership. Hillary is unelectable and has marginally more experience than Obama. She has been divisive, slanderous and generally one of the sleaziest political candidates I have ever seen.
I agree with #42, even though Obama hasn't been in the Senate long, he certainly couldn't be any worse than our current President. Given that he's a brilliant man, he has enormous potential to do a LOT of real good things for this country, which is the direct opposite of the nitwit we have for President now. Bush is the worst President this country has ever seen, bar none, so Obama would be a vast improvement.
As for you Democrats that are planning to vote for McCain because Clinton didn't win, SHAME ON YOU ALL!!! Didn't the election of Bush and his re-election teach you anything? Every vote counts!! If you really believe in the Democratic tenets, don't throw away your vote on McCain out of childish petulance, use your brain and vote for Obama, given how close his policies are to Clinton's.
Do you honesly think it makes any sense to vote for someone like McCain that is the virtual polar opposite to Clinton or Obama? Come on people, grow up!
Those of you who "claim" to be Democrats and are considering voting for McCain belong to the same group of idiots who elected George Bush Jr. and Sr. Proof once again that too many Americans who vote don't have the common sense needed to cross the street safely. I'm a Clinton and Obama supporter because I know that either or both of them could lead this country in the direction we need. We need to bring our boys home, stabilize our economy and restore our reputation with the rest of the world. Votes for McCain will only send more of our sons and daughters to their deaths needlessly and continue the status quo of gas and oil company profits at unconscionable highs and continue the slide of the American economy! Do you remember the budget surplus Bill Clinton gave us? Wake up America - get off your high horse and use your brain. A "no" vote for Obama is your racist attitude coming through loud and clear.
Sadly, if Hillary concedes, I can't vote for Barack Obama if he's the nominee and I'm an African-American! When people ask why I would vote for McCain over Obama, I simply say, policy issues aside, I actually believe John McCain, but I don't believe anything Barack Obama says. That's my gut and I have a right to vote it. Besides I think if Barack Obama wins it will be like Jimmy Carter all over again and it will set the democrats back for maybe another decade. He's weak and inexpericenced. An empty suit who should lead a movement rather than the country. So for the good of the party, it's probably better that he does lose so Hillary can run again in 2012 and that would be my plan and hope in voting for McCain.
"my pocketbook can't stand another 4 yrs of Republicans" ???
This is the kind of IGNORAMOUS remark I'd expect from a blind liberal. Who do you think is going to pay for universal health care and every other high priced item on Obama's wish list of promises he has made to every single group out there? It's you buddy. You're going to pay for it and it will suck out every retirement penny have you saved.
Good Luck with Obama.
I can't wait to hear from the Obama supporters how RACIST I am for voting against the Chosen One. What a bunch of self-rightiuos hoooey Obama and his wife have spewed during the campaign.
If you would honestly vote for McCain just because Hillary is not going to be the Dem. candidate...then do us all a favor and don't vote. It's ignorant people like you who are ruining this country. Obama has basically the same position on the issues as Clinton (Minus the gas tax holiday, which is a stupid idea.), so why wouldn't he be the candidate you vote for? Stop voting for arbitrary reason, look at the issues; this is why we have our current President.
"Ohh he doesn't have experience"
Who's more likely to change things, someone who's been playing the same political game for the last 30 years or someone freash and new?
...and J.F.K was considered an inexperienced candidate.
It is a relief that primary season finally seems to be ending. I think Hillary is wildly ambitious and deeply determined, so I'll believe her withdrawal when I see it.
Senator Obama can win in November if folks stop just jumping at the sound bites. What he brings to the contest is the charisma that mobilizes people. He can't run the country on his own. No one does. (Though Bush and Cheney seem to think they do.) He'll be working with his staff who will hopefully be more candid than the yes-men of the current administration.
If you're a Democrat who supports Hillary, don't just give up your vote to the Republicans if your candidate doesn't top the ticket. You support her because of what she represents to you : the promise of the possibility of America; the chance to get our government working for us again and a way to put the country in better standing with the rest of the world. That's what is important in November.
We'll I guess I'll be voting for Obama then....
Go dems! 08!
How about Obama/Rendell?? Thoughts? (trying to pull this thread up out of the schoolyard) Ed Rendell is crazy popular in Pennsylvania and I think PA and surrounding States would vote for him on any ticket. Hillary hold outs might even cast a vote for Obama with him on the ticket. (other than the wacky Suicide Voters)
Don't worry about the General. Obama is a superb campaigner and has tons more money than McCain, and he can raise more anytime he wants by emailing his grassroots supporters. He has already proven that he is willing and able to debate McC on any issue he wishes to put forward.
OBAMA '08 GO DEMS!!!
Dems 08 is totally right on target! BOTH sides need to smarten up quick if the country's to be saved. Obama supporters need to be sensitive to others' feelings and not gloat... Let's remember that with a few more votes on the other side things could easily have been the other way around. We also need to realize that Bill was right about "the dream ticket," and that we need to bury any lingering animosity.
REAL Clinton supporters (and not the republical snakes who came out in droves to vote for her in the primaries) need to realize that Moose and others are right. It's the republicals who are trying to convince you that Obama is unelectable. There's nothing that scares the republicals more than Barak at the head of the ticket. It'll remind way too many people of the hope and optimism of the Kennedy years.
I guess God is listening. OBAMA 08
All of you who support Hillary, but now plan to vote for McCain - what is your problem? What has happened to your principles? And if you feel Hillary has been a victim of sexism, why would you vote for McCain? Isn't McCain also a man? Can you truly trust McCain with healthcare, the economy, energy, war and national security? There is so little difference between Barack and Hillary - why turn to McCain? Why be so utterly stupid!!!!
Hillary Clinton's "Queen of Appalachia" Tour is coming to an end. With her assault on the left side of the bell curve complete, she has cemented her popularity with the intellectually undernourished, the spiritually unenlightened as well as the overtly racist. She is the hero of people who cannot read and those who believe that anyone with an above High School reading level is an Elitist. The Clinton Legacy (http://prorev.com/legacy.htm ) is one of the great Political Myths ( http://prorev.com/clintonmyth.htm ) fostered by the Clintonista's on swaths of the electorate who get wrapped up in their drama deluded into thinking that these two "Working Class Predators" are somehow "Working Class Heroes". The Clinton Scandals ( http://prorev.com/wwindex.htm ) have never been fully investigated to shed light on the disturbing period of American History. The Clinton Bush Connection (www.fromthewilderness.com/free/ciadrugs/gray_money.html ) is a very real one. Hillary is a shape shifting political fraud, a faux feminist and a working class predator. Predatory rhetoric will only contribute to and insure a divided nation.
Kate . . get a clue! hilary has been "robbed" of nothing. MI and FL broke the rules and hilary was lucky to even get the DNC to seat 1/2 the delegates.
you hilary supporters are just like her . . start crying when you don't get your way. It's comical because when hilary thought she didn't need MI or FL she agreed to the delegates not being seated. All of sudden, when she is losing, it's a crime that the delegates are not fully seated. You all need to realize that the majority of voters have a strong distaste for the clintons.
Now, let's see if obama can keep to his word and take a "fresh approach" to Washington. If he puts clinton on the ticket he will not only be hypocritical, but he will also have to deal with her thinking that she runs the show.
Either way, neither obama nor clinton can beat McCain!
Oh, please. How many of you HIllary backers would really vote for George W. McCain? You people are smarter than that. You all know damn well that McCain = Bush, and none of you want that. I know I don't.
We're all on the same team again.
If you would be swayed away from voting for Obama because your candidate lost on her own merits, because of the way you're treated after lingering for four months and diminishing the leader's chances at final victory, because you thought that you were entitled to a woman president, you're part of the problem in this country.
"...careful how you treat Hillary supporters". Please! Get over yourselves, you lost! Do you really think sinking your own ship somehow honors your presidential hopeful?! Sim! You deserve another 8 years of Bush.
Hillary is the best candidate, she is strong and qualified ,and definetly has experience. How can Obama qualify no experience whats so ever, Judgement please the whole Pastor situation. He will sit with terrorist and negotiate and talk they kill there own daughters if there face is not covered. He will be a disaster for our country . Is Hillary for me all the way!! If not McCain or No ONE. I will not vote for Obama.
