Obama auditioning other possible VPs?
Barack Obama campaigns today in what he hopes will be a battleground state, accompanied by potential names on his short list for a running mate.
The presumptive Democratic nominee wants to contest Virginia, recently a Republican stronghold, and its 13 electoral votes.
Under pressure from supporters of Hillary Clinton to pick her, Obama is scheduled to appear at a rally in Bristol, Va., with former Governor Mark Warner, then a rally this evening in Bristow with current Governor Tim Kaine and Senator Jim Webb.
Webb, in particular, has been mentioned as a possible running mate because of their shared opposition to the war in Iraq and Webb's resume as a former Marine.
Obama on Wednesday named a three-person vetting committee, including Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, and appears in no hurry to select a vice presidential nominee.
"We're not going to be rushed into it. I don't think Senator Clinton expects a quick decision and I don't even know that she's necessarily interested in that," Obama told NBC in an interview Wednesday evening.
The Illinois senator clinched the nomination Tuesday and Clinton said last night she will hold an event with supporters in Saturday where she will endorse Obama and call for party unity.

stay away from Hillary, she is evil and with her husband she will be as nasty as she was in the last few month. there will be an endless power struggle
I suggest Rev Wright or William Ayers or Tony Rezko or Vanilla Ice Pfleger or maybe even Louis Farrahkan.
NObama. Stop the racist now.
Stay in Hillary!
Hillary would make a great ambassador to Bosnia because she is such a hard working white person as far as I know. . .

If Barak Obama does not pick Hilary Clinton as his runnung-mate, he will probably lose half of his voting Demovrats. Since Hilary ran in the Primaries so close to Senator Obama, and she is not able to convince her supporters to vote Democratic, they will either not vote at all or vote for John McCain
VP vetting committee will do their job and Obama will engage with McCain. All the
other drama needs to be slowed down!
He's more than welcome to. Hillary will run as an independent and be president. Obama will go back to bring change to Illinois and unify Chicago.

The only way Obama can win is if he makes Hillary his Vice President. He has alienated too many Democrats along with way with his dismissive attitude towards the concerns of working and middle class Americans -- especially women. And let's face it, we've all had bosses who we've been smarter than, and we've learned how to flatter them make them believe the good ideas were their's. So now it will be Hillary's turn to be smarter and more competant than her boss
Kathleen Sebelius!!! She has "real" executive experience and her ideology is more congruent with Obama's. Please stay away from Hillary when considering a potential Veep.
Posted by Margaret A. Maguire - You are a fool. Women are not going to vote food off their tables and take a chance on a Roe VS. Wade reversal. Get real - you don't know what you are talking about.
Picking Hillary Clinton as his VP would be a good idea for his campaign for the election. It would, however, not be the best idea for when he is running the country. He should pick someone that complements him, his style, and his policies. He needs someone that will reinforce his strengths and make up for his weaknesses. And above all, he should be comfortable with the person. Nobody should pressure him into making any decision. Just because Hillary would be a big help in getting him the votes needed to win the presidency, doesn't mean it would be a good match once they got to the White House. Trying to win without her on the ticket is a risk he may have to take. It'll be interesting to see how he handles this situation.
What about John Edwards???? I think he would be a smart choice...
agree with you rich..sebelius is a very popular governer in kansas..her father was the govenor of ohio..were she was born and raised.
ummm...as a repubican..Obama has no chance..sorry!..but it is true....The only way he wins...the only way he wins...Is if he convinces Al Gore to be his running mate....Then Al Gore can stress everyone(much needed, he is right!)
out about the envirnoment
jbdsm,
You said exactly what I was thinking. Billary is not the person for the job.
Many dems will not vote for Obama unless Hillary is on the ticket!
I get the feeling that there are Republicans on this board posing as Clinton Democrats or that there are some Democrats who have completely forgotten that they are Democrats. The bashing of fellow Democrats is counterproductive, and is divisive in a way that is reminiscent of the behavior of the current administration. I think on both sides people have forgotten that it is historic that BOTH an African American and a woman were presidential candidates. Unfortunately only one person can be the US president and both candidates had to use tactics to get there that are part and parcel of being a politician. You have to be a politician to play politics. We have to accept that Barak will not be able to make all the changes that he promises because he has to operate within the paradigm of US politics, but that's ok. That politics. In my opinion, I still think that Barak and Hillary would be a productive, intelligent and inspiring team and a refreshing break from the rampant stupidity of the past 8 years.
The Clinton supporters should not be pressuring or bargaining with our nominee; for one thing, they are NOT in a position to bargain with anyone......their bargaining failed with the superdelegates already! Senator Obama is FREE to, and will, pick someone of his own choosing. After seeing what a great campaign team he hired for his campaign, I have no doubt whatsover that he will choose the "right" person for his VP. People need to stop hounding him to choose Hilliary. Hillary and Bill would be detrimental to President Obama' policies and drag him down. Besides, as someone said, he would have to hire a food taster.
Clinton people, please strop trying to be control freaks, it does not flatter you!

This election will be a true test of America, it will determine how much racism still exists throughout this country...we'll see. Comments like the ones from kevkristy are disheartening.
I supported and continue to support Barack Obama, but if he didn't win the primary, I would have voted for Hillary, seeing how many of their positions are the same. I guess we'll see...
SO MUCH DRAMA..............Se. Clinton will vote for Sen. Obama because she knows he will back social justice programs, will back a woman's right to choose, and will raise our standing in the world. Any of Sen. Clinton's supporters who vote for McCain disavow their belief in the programs Sen. Clinton stands for and works for everyday. A vote for McCain will be a slap in Sen. Clinton's face....basically saying to her "I never believed in what you stood for...and I am willing to give up the right to choose". Stop the drama and let's all work to defeat McBush in November. He is dangerous, he is out of touch, he does not back ANY women's issues. As a past Biden, and then Hillary supporter...I can't wait to vote for Sen. Obama and end the Republican destroying of democracy !!!
Maybe he should pick Deval. They seem to have the same message of HOPE and CHANGE. How has Deval excuted on those campaign promises? In a state where his party controls the legislature too???
I can't fault Deval on anything he has done - mainly because he has done nothing therefore you can't fault him on it. I just get concerned that the same thing will happen with OBAMA. I have no idea what any of his policies are - just that he is not from the Bush White House. Greeaaattt - but what is his stance on something and what is the plan?? So you are against the war - let me see the plan to get out of Iraq and how you plan to sit idle will religious genocide takes place after we leave.
As Rod Tidwell said - SHOW ME THE PLAN!
To all GENUINE Clinton supporters...
Thank you for your efforts on behalf of the Democratic party. In all elections there is only one person who wins and often many people who don't. The fact that your candidate was not the one does not diminish in any way your efforts on behalf of the candidate that you felt was the right one. In truth, only time will really tell who's right, but as an Obama supporter please allow me to congradulate you on a hard fought race. As the father of a four year old girl and the son of a single mother who rose to the top of her field I'm proud of how far this country has come when a woman can come so close to the nomination.
I've been telling anyone that would listen since January of 2007 that Senator Obama should be the presidential nominee and that Senator Clinton should be the vice-presidential nominee. Obama on top makes a break with the past. Only yesterday the Democratic National Committee announced that it would take NO money from lobbyists or PACs. That would not have been the case had Senator Clinton come out on top. While she has many admirable skills, she's hopelessly tied to the past, and the old way of doing business in Washington. On the other hand, VP Dick has forever changed the office of the Vice President. I truly believe that Mrs. Clinton's aggressive and hard-working style is just what this country needs in that office to accomplish universal health care and so many other things.
I truly hope you will join us so that we can roll up our sleeves and make this country great again, together. Again, thank you.
Go back and look at 1968, similar scenario after RFK's assasination, the party remained bitterly divided because McCarthy would not accomoday RFK's supporters. Obama needs to find a way to heal the rift. If he doesn't want Hillary, he probably needs to take a supporter like the PA governor. The Obama favorite Webb is to inexperienced and too sexist, he works for the Obamaphiles but for no one else and he will offend the clinton women. Choosing a woman and not Hillary is going to offend the women who support her. Let's face it, he needs her supporters and he needs to find a way to win in Ohio, PA, Michigan, Florida and West Virginia. Going the way he has till now isn't going to cut it.
Billary will be playing the part of Brutus, stabbing Caesar in the back for four years. She (they) just need to go away. They need a change in the Democratic Party in the worst way. You don't see Romney trying to screw McCain over do you. Why wait until Saturday to concede the victory? Why could she be a "man" and step up on Tuesday night??? Why doesn't she just leave and go back to her Senate office.
Smart move Obama. Let the ice melt out. A month from now Hillary just another senator from New York, no one will remember her. And if they remember her, they'll remember her BIG failure.
Ugh! The Clinton/Obama backers need to stop bashing each other like you're all still in junior high! Honestly, how old are you idiots, anyway? ! We've got an election to win here. Grow up and support the Dem. nominee so we can throw the Bush/McCain crowd out of power. What's more important? Another 4 yrs. of misdirection and failure or seeing where a change of party can take us?
This " I won't vote for Obama if Hillary isn't his VP" and " Hillary is evil, etc, ad nauseum. .." is childish, unproductive, and plays right into the GOP's hands.
Grow up and grow a spine. We broke the glass ceiling for every non-white, minority, and for women of any color. Let's win in November ! ! !
economy
Clinton would be a wise unity choice for Vice President provided Bill is not her surrogate. However, there are many other women who could be extraordinary Vice Presidents. Most important, Obama could indicate that his presidential appointments would be 50% female and 50% male to help close the gender divide. That would send the right signals and help smash all those sexist glass ceilings in businesses across America and beyond.
HRC should not be concerned about become the VP candidate under Obama because King Obama will not win. She can try again in 4 more years.
Hamas just killed more people in Israel today. Hamas has said they like Obama. Why are the American Jews supporting Obama? Have the American voters gone crazy.
Obama is not getting all his millions and millions off contributions from the internet. If you believe that, you still believe in Santa Claus.
As a 'hard working' (though unpaid!!!) white, middle-class woman I want to say that those saying it's Hillary or nothing don't speak for me so please stop using demographic generalities when making threats.
People will decide between the candidates and one would hope they would choose the one whose platform best represents their own positions as well as their hopes and aspirations for this nation.
Each candidate is free to select the VP who would best work with and compliment them! Obama is no more obligated to select Clinton than McCain is to pick Huckabee!
I would have liked to see Senator Webb as the Democratic PRESIDENTIAL nominee. Having said that, he would be an excellent choice as VP. Read his book, A Time to Fight.
IMO Hillary should head off to the Supreme Court. In a position like that, where she no longer needs to rely on lobbyist or PAC money to survive, she can let her true talents as a policy expert shine, and rebuild her dignity in one of the most dignified positions in the world.
Why on Earth would she want to settle for VP, when a Justice position is within her grasp?
The thugs of tel aviv just killed a young palestinian girl in gaza today. After the obama speech for the Israeli lobby AIPAC, he obviously cannot keep america secure and prevent the rise of islamic fundementalism..it is time to look at Nader and not the panderers to foreign countries. America first and an america that does not support killers of children
Barrack Obama will pick Al Sharpton a winning ticket.
To Cuzinjo - thanks for understanding all Americans have a right to support their candidate and that Hillary got half the popular vote. To Ed M, you're a smart man, there's not another woman that comes close to Hillary's qualifications and it WOULD be a SLAP in the face to Hillary supporters, let alone Hillary.
To NinaK - Obama needs supporters like you like a hole in the head. He stands for positive change; not aggressive, abusive, nasty, negative people like you. You're what he is trying to change. Keep it up, you can affect the election to his detriment.
To another citizen - You know everyone thought Hillary was a shoe in a year ago, even six months ago. Shows you how much the environment can change. If you think her supporters are insignificant, keep dissing them. Remember she won at least half of the popular demacratic primary vote. If you think Obama's over $30,000 yr college educated liberal base can win on their own, more power to you. But I thought he was a man for the people. Besides that, ask any husband a woman never forgets being scorned, and we will not forget how the next few days are handled.
If the Obama campaign is indeed about change, go against conventional wisdom and listen to the approximately 50% of people that supported Hillary. We are just as passionate about her. Nothing else would bring us together faster. Nothing else could turn us into more ardent supporters.
I tend to agree with the sentiment that picking Hillary for the votes would be a mistake. Obama has taken a step to change the political landscape with denying contributions from lobbyists. Why take a step backwards and go for what every politician would go for. Blaze the trail and do what is right. Pick a VP who will help to blaze the trail, not one who will take every opportunity to put their view forward to the detriment of your own and play down your contributions to their advantage. We need a president who is not presided over by the VP.
Where racism exists is with the blogger that says if obama doesn't get elected the the country's still racists.thats the kind of garbage we've been hearing for over a year now.Grow up bloggers and news people
Do all the rabid Hillary supporters and the more feminist women who threaten to stay home or vote McCain, realize that if they follow through, they will never see a woman president in their lifetimes! They would start a political feud with African Americans and other groups, which would constantly be repeated.
Both groups have suffered from discrimination for generations. Obama won fair and square, even though the media was far more racist than sexist in their reporting. He was always gracious, even when she was attacking him.
Would you really rather vote for an old man who has not faced discrimination, and who calls his wife a "c*nt", and will overturn your right to choose?
If women democrats sabatoge this election, it will prove to many that a woman is not ready to be president.
Hillary is not a loser, personally I think the men she entrusted to run her campaign, blew it for her, and Obama's campaign was simply better organized. If you want to seek retribution, start with Penn, Icke, McAuliffe, and BIll. Obama didn't cause her to lose.

I, a forty-nine (49) year old, BORN – BREED - RAISED – SAVED – STAUNCH – SOUTHERN – CHRISTIAN – DEMOCRAT
I find it very confusing all this bickering amounts democrates.
No, Sanitary Obama doses not have the right to pick whom ever he wants as a running mate. He works for me and all other taxpaying Americans. I’m his boss. He is not mine. He can’t fire me. I can fire him.
I lived through eight great years of President Clinton’s administration, lower taxes for the lesser incomes, reduction in the national debit, a balanced budget, growing economy, ext. You people must either be too young to remember or you have fallen trap to the republican smear tactics. I researched past presidents that had marital affairs and concluded 90% of all ex-presidents had committed adultery with the exception of Theodora Roosevelt, Jimmy Carter, and George W. Bust, of course Bush may have back in is alcoholic days but was to drunk to remember or tell about it. The differance was they didn’t have Kin Starr and the republican controlled house and senate trying to smear a great president’s name. It sounds like we let them win.
Bill and Hilary like Obama are all great American demarcates and have brought many years of prosperity and recognition to our party. And if this is what the party has come to I will have to vote republican in the general election come November.
So grow up and learn some American history.
Hillary has a permanent disapproval rating of 45%. It has never once dipped below that level since she first appeared on the scene 1992. After the last two months of her strident refusal to accept reality (including her horrendous speech on Tuesday night) her unfavorables now hover around 60%.
Why on earth would any candidate put such a person on the ticket? To satisfy a handful or embittered middle-aged women bent on re-chanelling their disappointment into hatred of Obama, whose only sin is winning. If they want to overturn Roe v. Wade and give us 4 more years of wall-to-wall disaster, because of sour grapes, then let them. Having Hillary on the ticket will cost Obama twice that many votes in the fall.
RIGHT ON RJ DUNN. YOU TOOK THE WORDS RIGHT OUT OF MY MOUTH.
HILARY AS VP WOULD BE A FOOLISH MOVE BY SENATOR OBAMA AND WOULD BE AN INSULT TO THOSE WHO VOTED FOR HIM. NOT ONLY THAT BUT IT WOULD SHOW A WEEKNESS IN HIM.
HILARY AS VP MEANS MY VOTE WILL GO TO SENATOR McCAIN.
Sheik Obama (excuse my insensitivity)... Barry H. O'bama will probably pick Calypso Louie Farrakhan as his running mate, Bill Ayers as Secretary of Defense (he knows a lot about bombs), Michelle his wife as Secretary of State. Hell, he might even offer a job to Hugo Chavez and Am-mad-ina-whack.
He has no use for Hillary (unless she converts to islam).
Hillary on the ticket would be an insult to Obama's supporters??? How unreal! How arrogant! And how typical! Obama's sense of entitlement is only matched by that of his mindless supporters. How dare you dismiss millions of Democrats who voted for Clinton. Obama has no credentials, no accomplishments. His rise to fame has been oiled by the Chicago political machine (yet he campaigns as Mr. Clean). He routinely claims credit for the work of others. His only talent is for oratory - he can't answer a simple question without stammering. Not to mention his lies, his subtle race-baiting and his wacko "friends". What has he done for the Democratic Party in the past 30 years? Nothing. He is using his moronic followers to promote himself. He doesn't deserve Hillary on his ticket, and shouldn't whine when he loses the election-or blame her. This one is all on him.
Obama needs to focus on issues that affect the country. He doesn't need to worry about what Hilary and Bill are up to. He cannot risk a 25th amendment stunt or constantly have a food taster in his own White House.
Obama and The Democrats can win without Hilary. Hilary supporters, however need to think of what is best for the country and themselves, not a senseless sit out/defection because Hilary DID NOT WIN (sore loser!).
The choice is being a true democrat with Obama OR more foreclosures, high gas, a further dwindling economy and rich getting richer a-la-McCain-Bush III ...
Let the idea simmer and act sensibly by rallying behind what's right a-la Obama!
Margaret,
You're hopefully deluded if you think Obama will lose half of HRC votes if he doesn't pick her. I have to trust that people who voted for Hillary are more open-minded to the interests of the party and country that their own emotional attachment to one candidate. If there are defections in great numbers, its a sad day for the Democratic party if this would occur. We had two great, historic candidates, and one won. Now lets move on and let the winner pick the person he feels he could best work with and would best compliment him, the same thing Hillary would have done had she won.
Hillary will not be part of losing ticket. I rather see Bill Richardson on board. Obama Richardson ticket would be better than Obama Sharpton.
My goodness don't you people see how WEAK you are making Obama look with this BULLYING AND THREATENING??? This is a man who is in line TO BE THE PRESIDENT. He CAN'T be seen to be caving in to pressure!!!
STOP IT!!!
this has been the most emasculating campaign run against a man I've ever seen!! Why is that???? I know I would have no respect for a man if he gave into this bullying!!!! If he can't stand up to this what can he stand up to??
what a setback for women. Nobody's gonna want to deal with a woman from now on in a power sharing role because they'll not want to be bullied, nagged, threatened into doing something they don't WANT TO DO.
sheesh
