Obama embarks on economic tour next week

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor June 6, 2008 04:06 PM

Barack Obama's campaign this afternoon announced a two-week tour focused on economic issues, where the presumptive Democratic nominee believes he has the edge.

The “Change that Works for You” tour is to launch Monday in North Carolina, a state he hopes to make a battleground in the fall with Republican John McCain.

According to his campaign, "Obama will travel across the country, talking to Americans about how the economy affects their everyday lives," in events with voters "where they work and where they live."

Other stops on the tour are to be announced.

“The middle class has always been the engine of prosperity in this country—but for nearly eight years we’ve had an administration that tells working people ‘you’re on your own,’ ” Obama said in a statement.

“Not when I’m President. I’ll reform our tax code to benefit the middle class instead of the big corporations. I’ll make sure that quality health care is affordable and accessible for every American. And I’ll provide real relief from the housing crisis by creating a foreclosure prevention fund, providing a tax break for homeowners, and cracking down on fraudulent lenders. Those are the kind of solutions that will make a difference for working Americans—and that’s the kind of change we’ll be discussing on this tour.”

  1. Its so wonderful to have Caroline Kennedy - who may have been a sweet, cute little girl - but what knowledge of politics does she have?? I wondering if she knows Obama better than the rest of America. The American people are playing follow the leader with the Obama campaign. They don't know anything about him either - they just follow what their young college people, etc. because so many are doing the same --not thinking about who is the most EXERIENCED AND WHO WOULD NOT BE AFRAID TO TAKE THE RIGHTS STEPS FOR OUR COUNTRY. With Obama - he is a YES man - so all of you who vote for him will be saying YES to everything for the next 2,4,6,????? years. I hope God will help us with this bad decision. I will be vote for anyone but Obama

  1. It's exactly the opposite, Linda. The people who are for Obama are the most informed, the most educated, the most successful.

America needs to take a new direction for itself and for the world. Obama will do that in November precisely because he is not just a YES man, but a YES WE CAN man.

  1. Like God helped elect GWB? Yeah, that's been so good for this country. Endless war, gas prices quadrupled, more poverty, fewer people covered under health care, that's the Republican agenda. How's that working for ya?

Who is the "they" you refer to, anyway? Don't speak about things and people you know nothing of.

  1. What exactly is his economic plan? I see nothing in what he says that will lower costs or taxes for anyone who works. It seems his plan is only good for those who do not work.

He is going to raise taxes, he favors cap and trade which will raise the cost of everything we buy. It seems that his plans would only help you if your living off an entitlement program.

How does his plans lower your cost for energy, lower your taxes or lower the cost of gasoline? Watch him during this economic tour; I am willing to bet it will be more an enviromental tour then an economic tour.

Democrats worry more about the enviromentalist wants, then about the consumers needs.

  1. Dear American Voters,

Hon. Senator McCain and Obama, besides each having many attributes and characteristics. The critical differences between the two of these presidential presumptive nominees are as under:

    1. Presidential "Temperament and Composer".
    2. Little Washington "insider Versus outsider" experience.
    3. "Vision and mission" for our nation future rather than past.
    4. American policies, " first U.S.A Centric" than any other country [ ies ] centric.

In my professional opinion one Hon. senator has it and the other does not.

The need of our next movement and generation is a change. The Change in " past Washington and its Leadership". A change we can believe in and not the seductive, deceptive, and confusing slogan of "leader we can believe in" [? Effexor ?".

Our Greatgrand Nation has to address many present and future challenges and start with new clean "Slate and Senator".

God Bless America. its diverse people, and our Greatgrand Nation.

Our Greatgrand Nation is needs the CHANGE at every level and for long time.

I am sure Senator Obama with the help of Senator Clinton and her supporters, can deliver that CHANGE.

Please stay involved, stay engaged, and stay informed. Please do not allow any seduction, deception, and or confusion by some partisan media and leaders effect your vote [ Psychological Terrorism ]..

    Yours truly,

  1. These comment posts are so great, democrats get to say what they like without people looking around to see who it was that said something that dumb!

Heard on the news a few days ago that, over the past 15 years, while "Rev." Wright has been spewing his hate-filled, racist, anti-American, anti-white speeches, and Obama has been "not-hearing" any of that, their "church", which recently gave a Lifetime Achievement award to Louis Farrakhan, has quietly been the recipient of $15,000,000 of our tax dollars! They are probably still getting it!
How'd they arrange to get that much of our tax money, who set that up, do you think? Separation of church and state? Has that been repealed? Do you think anybody should ask Obama if he had anything to do with getting that "church" this money? If he didn't, who did? Shouldn't we know?

  1. I'll bet Obama's economic plan is like Jim Johnson's economic plan.....create/use government initiatives to make politicians rich. Jim Johnson is one of 3 people on Obama's team to select his VP. Please.....go to the trouble of looking at the article in the Washington Post (5/3/06, which they probably would never had published if they knew he would have figured in Obama's nomination) which explains how Jim Johnson benefited from a being the Chairman & Chief Executive of Fannie Mae. Johnson "built one of the most sophisticated political machines ever assembled by a corporation; power federal regulators say was used to discourage tough oversight of the company." The article goes on to say "unlike company critics, Johnson saw no contradiction between public mission and its need to make money for its shareholders. To him, its financial and political fortunes were inseparable." And when Johnson separated from the company, he separated with $21M.

The second member of the VP team is Eric Holder, attorney who handled the pardon for Marc Rich. Marc Rich didn't was even eligible for a pardon, having served less than 5 years. He was accused of tax evasion, fraud & paraticipating in illegal oil deals with Iran. But don't trust me...please, read the Associated Press article dated June 5, 2008. Rep. Christopher Shays, R-Conn, said at the time "Everything about it seems sleazy".

And then the third member is of course, Caroline Kennedy, who has a reputation of being a snob, even within her own family. Her mother couldn't stand the average American, recoiled at the thought of being in their company. She refered to us as "the masses" and enjoyed making fun of people behinds their backs. Her Aunt, the Princess, reportedly said the Kennedy administration was the most distainful administration in history. And then there is Jackie's marriage to Aristole Onassis, which Jackie lovers justify by her admiration for "pirates". Oh yeah, what do pirates do? Oh, yeah they plunder.

You think you're going to get change? You're only going to get more trouble.
"Ask not what you're country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country"..blah, blah, blah, blah!

  1. Heather,
John McCain supports cap and trade too. It's one of the few things he disagrees with Bush on.

You want to know his economic agenda? It's here:
    http://www.barackobama.com/issues/economy/

These are his positions and plans on taxes, trade, technology and other issues.

This isn't 1980 anymore. America doesn't reflexively support "low tax" politicians anymore after the last 7 years of Bush.

  1. Obama's decision to name his Vice President's vetting team was another wise, inclusive and visionary decision. Super choices!!!
I continue to be surprise that we latch on to the comment, "We don't know anything about him!" Few of us really know anything about any of them when it comes to determining what they will do. We should be able to rely on our own spiritual instincts and wisdom. The character displayed in their interviews, debates and decisions are important signals. There are books written about Obama, read them, unless you feel better saying, "I don't know him."
Caution, you need to be able to count on you to make a wise choice for the future. Don't think that a vote against Obama will help you, your family, or society.

  1. Heather, This is why you have to listen to his plan and read about them on BarackObama.com They are all laid out there in great detail. Linda, Obama is anything but a YES man. He is an extremely effective leader. He laid out a strategy that defeated Hillary and he surrounds himself with only the best talent. He would not be where he is right now, if what you are saying is true. Look at "seasoned politicians such as Biden, Mitt Romney, John Edwards, etc.... are right now. There is a reason he is so successful and WILL get things done in Washington when he is elected our 44th President.
