Obama invites Clinton to unity meeting

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor June 2, 2008 07:12 PM

On the precipice of winning the Democratic nomination, Barack Obama today shared a phone conversation he had with rival Hillary Clinton about uniting the party.

"I emphasized to her what an extraordinary race that she's run and said that there aren't too many people who understand exactly how hard she's been working," he told reporters in Waterford, Mich., relating their talk Sunday when he congratulated her on her victory in Puerto Rico.

"I'm one of 'em because she and I have been on this same journey together, and I told her that once the dust settled I was looking forward to meeting with her at a time and place of her choosing. The sooner we can bring the party together, the sooner we can focus on John McCain and taking back the White House."

If Obama indeed clinches the nomination after the Montana and South Dakota primaries Tuesday, that meeting could conceivably come as soon as Wednesday in Washington, where both are scheduled to address the American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference.

  1. No way, Hillary. Don't meet with Obama unless he going to offer you the vice-presidency.

Without you on the ticket, I won't vote.

  1. Give me a break.

You may try to lure her to your side, but that will make no difference in the end. I will write her name on the ticket ultimately voting No to Obama.

  1. I believe Hillary should continue to fight for the nomination from her party. The DNC and all those who have betrayed Hillary should be ashamed and the hateful media too. I will not vote for Obama because first he isn't qualified to be president, not yet. He needs a lot more experience in Washington. This trendy youth getter campaign has nothing to do with helping Americans where we need it--not a bunch of screaming, poster waving people who have never before even cared about what is happening with their government. Where were these people when the Bushes took the Whitehouse? Not voting for sure, because they did not care. Hillary Clinton deserves the support and respect of every democrat and other Americans who understand what this country stands for and how we got to be the greatest nation in the world. Most of the Obama supporters were not around. Where are the real Americans and loyal Democrats? I will write Hillary's name on my ballot. I will not vote for Obama or certainly not McCain. I am not supporting the Democrat Party anymore until they can make their rules to suit the true democracy!!

  1. Its way past time and the clock keeps ticking. Hillary Clinton must now step down and regardless the hurt, she must admit defeat. There are many wounds to be healed, and not left to fester, because it will only cause more problems and griefs for the Nation. She fought a good fight, and not always fair, but let it now end, for the Republic is far more important. Much change is needed in Washington, and Obama is better to bring that needed change than Clinton. William Clinton brought a stigma upon himself, the presidency and the nation, which Hillary Clinton cannot heal, but Obama can. May G-d bless our Republic and people.

  1. I hope some people see the bigger picture than if Senator Clinton don't win I will not vote for Senator Obama, because if Mcain get in the white house the United States will not change. I'm refering to the people who live in the states that Senator Clinton won the popular vote. If they enjoy high gas prices, and the high cost of living then go ahead and vote for Senator Mcain, but if people want at least a change of pace in America go ahead and let go of your prejudices and vote for Senator Obama, you will benefit from the change too. But my guess is that if Senator Clinton will not make the nominee then you probably vote for Mcain, If you all vote for Mcain then you can rest assure that the Bush policy will still exist in the white house, you might as well say its business as usual so enjoy losing your homes, paying for high food cost while the living wage will not increase. Now I can get off my soap box.

This is a sharp contrast to the John McSame and Bush and Cheney's culture of secrecy and deception that ruined this country. The Rep used religion, deception, greed, personal ambitions and fear to run this great country aground in just 5 years. How can we explain that we went from a self-reliant nation to a begging nation for oil from Saudis?

  1. Hillary Clinton dies not give up!

If Obama wins the nomination, and goes on to win the Presidential election, he will probably serve for two terms.

Eight years is simply too long for Hillary and ?Bill to wait in line, and she would be pretty far over the hill and her chins would not look good on campaign poaster.

No... her only chance, if she does not win this one, is for Obama to lose to John McCain, so that she could run against McCain four years from now.

She will never forgive Obama for oolying her ot of here "deserved" Presidency, and will not work to support him. Au contraire, she will do her damndest to serve her own interests, and see that he loses to John McCain.

  1. Who Obama decides to invite to be his VP will tell me volumes about this man.
If he has the intelligence, sensitivity and character I pray he has....he will ask Hillary to consider this position.

Whether he knows it, or will admit it, he must have her on board to beat John McCain. Nothing is worth the risk of McCain winning.

I cannot envision our party uniting unless they share the ticket and the responsibility. If the senator wants to facilitate real change in this government....he will with the greatest respect, ask her help him win this election. They will work alongside with each other combining their qualities and experience.

The days of the inactive Vice President have to go. We need all of the prayer, brain power and stamina that we can muster for the work ahead in healing not just this party, but this country. They would be a powerful force and our country could breath a good bit easier at night with them in place.

If Obama does not take this opportunity... we are lost. Because if he turns his back on Hillary, with her experience and passion for our country, he most certainly will turn his back on us all. Any trust in character and vision he earned, in my view will evaporate. He will have proven himself to be just another politician incable of changing anything.

    DEDICATION

I dedicate this book entitled "BILL A RI AND THERE WAS LIGHT!" to the FORMER President Bill Clinton, to his wife Hillary and their daughter Chelsea. Leadership is the trade-mark of both the President and his whole family at the dawn of the twenty-first century.
The immediate goal of this book is to make the leaders and peoples of the West aware of their grave responsibilities in connection with Haiti’s current tragic situation. For this reason, it recalls the dominant relationship the West has had with the Black World.
    ----------------------------

    LETTER TO SENATOR BARACK OBAMA
    Montreal, February 20, 2008

    SENATOR OBAMA ,

The whole world has its eyes on you, on The United States Of America and its people.

Everyone expects you to be democratically elected and see that something happen in America.

In March 1983, one of humanity's most famous spokesmen, Pope John Paul II, came to our country - 'Haîti' - and loudly proclaimed what each and every one of us had been whispering:

    'Something must change here.'

Today, more than ever, a lot of people of The United States of America stand up, longing for something and working to make something happen.

And, like in March 9, 1983, beloved Haiti, History - (which from then and now on rests in thy hands) - tells thee: "it is now time to let people speak to thee of love!', let's say today': 'Go thou America ahead and show us thy true countenance in a positive light.' It is up to everyone to play his or her part in order to let thee regain thy mark of excellence !"

With this letter, I am communicating with You, Senator Obama, and with the whole people of The United States of America.

You offer this country what it takes to be a 'Wonderfull Land.' Yes, let us say 'with a great people living together.'

Go thou, America, go ahead, following in the footsteps of one of thy sons who is now becoming one of thy statesmen.

With this in mind, Mr.Obama, to whom else could I entrust this letter sent to his Holiness Pope John Paul II when he set foot on Haitian soil for the first time, as well as its acknowledgment by the Vatican?

That letter to Pope John Paul II is intended to draw attention to the problem posed by anti-Black discrimination and its negative repercussions on the advancement of scientific progress in the West, and more precisely in the realm of Optics.

In the Western world, according to Newton's widely accepted theory, white is considered to be the synthesis of all colors. Actually, the opposite is true. White constitutes the analysis or 'visible' decoding of light or color, whereas black is its synthesis or 'invisible' composition.

In other words, darkness or blackness and, we might add, "Black Holes'"- a scientific misnomer designating invisible stars or 'Black Suns' - are a source of energy and light.

That basic raw material of light energy culminates, in its most radiant form, in the neutralization of all the colors of the spectrum in the form of so-called "white light."

Therefore "absolute blackness", the absorption of all the colors, is a divisible component of light. Needless to say, Newton's theory gives only a partial interpretation of the notion of light, by excluding black. Our contribution aims at demonstrating that the black color is not only an integral part of the color process, but its true synthesis. Light is therefore shown to be a divisible whole comprising an intensity or color scale in which black is the invisible or 'absorbed' form of the energy in question.

Allow me, Senator Obama, in order to support my statement concerning Black Holes and radiation, to pose a question asked by Hubert Reeves, Doctor of nuclear astrophysics and Scientific Consultant to NASA:

"What would have become of the Sun, if it were plunged into a high temperature radiance like the one that existed at the beginning of the Universe? [our translation]"

"Instead of emitting light, it would absorb it and, in the end, it would be completely reabsorbed into the cosmic fluid."

The cosmic fluid is what, due to an "optical mistake", is called "darkness" or the "blackness of space". We are talking about the electromagnetic flux, that immeasurable ocean in which the planets and stars are bathed, like the sea which links all the continents together. Darkness is thus "The Sea of Space."

"What would have happened if, instead of an ordinary star like the "White Sun", a Black Hole or "Black Sun" were injected into that primordial radiation?

"According to Einsteinian Physics, a Black Hole is a place where gravity is so formidably intense that nothing can escape it, not even visible light. Such a hole should suck in and absorb radiation and increase its own mass: E=MC2, always."

"But after Einstein came Bohr, Heisenberg, and Quantum Physic. From then on, nothing was the same as before.

"The Einsteinian version of the Black Hole is equivalent to a statement that the matter inside the Black Hole is definitely there to stay, in that volume of space. Let us quote Hubert Reeves: "Such an absolute statement is thus contrary to the "Quantum spirit", affirming that nothing is definitely localized in one place. There is always a probability of escape. If the enclosing wall is too high, a tunnel will be dug; if the prisoners are patient, they will escape. One has only to wait. [our translation]"

"According to that principle, Black Holes "evaporate." Matter constantly escapes as radiation. Black Holes "shine!" Their surfaces behave like those of any body heated to a certain temperature and that radiation endlessly feeds that marvelous "Cosmic Fluid" which, wrongly and in bad faith, people keep calling "Darkness."

Nigra sum "sed" formosa. Yes, but should we not say instead, I am black "and" comely? Darkness, which is both source and vehicle of light, does not have to defend itself for being the beautiful and infinitely discreet raw material of the Universe. Darkness is the "Mother of the Universe."

Also, beautiful and discreet art thou, Haiti. Discreet, yes, but never outshone! Just like the Black Virgin who inspires and sheds her love on thee from the hilltop and even beyond Cité Soleil (Sun City).

Our purpose was to offer a more constructive approach aiming at correcting the abusive traditional, so-called scientific, theories of Optics. That is why, we wrote to that authentic witness to the signs of this age, His Holiness Pope John Paul II, the prophet of the new era.

Congratulations to You, Sir, and congratulations to the people of The United States Of America, for having made it possible for this day to mark the beginning of a "New Era of Hope !"

  1. This is truly a man who conducts himself like a president. I'm in what is supposed to be Hillary's target demo: white, not yet completed my degree, and female but this man has impressed me from the start. As much as I've disliked the way Hillary has run much of her campaign (which I considered very disorganized and her behavior sometime tactless and shrewish) I am not foolish enough to deny that she has clout amongst the blue collar demo and would indeed be able to bring them along. If he adds her to the ticket who could blame him?

Think Belinda in Canada, think more womanizing, think more stress on Hillary and her focus, think her own anger issues, think her own chilling effects that you have yet to witness. As much as it pains me, unless clinton wins, I plan to eithe vote green party or Peace and Freedom party. After 25 years of voting solidly democrat I plan to change. 1. Obama, is thinking only of him self. He resigned that racist church for his own benefit, and he did it on a day that it could be hidden from the public, with the attention of the day going to the Rules committee meeting. He spoke highly of the new church pastor, Otis Moss, but it was Pastor Moss who complimented Father Michael Pflager, when he mocked Hillary. I read articles on his wife this weekend, and it is clear why they were supporting ($27,000 yearly) members of that church. He said he couldn't disown pastor Wright or the church, but now he can because he thinks he's the nominee. He's wear a flag pin because McCain is a "War Hero," so he's trying to look patriotic... He's being nice to Hillary now only to unite the party, and again to benefit himself and court the Hillary supporters. Does he really think that the people that support Hillary Clinton, can't figure out what he's doing... The only way this democrate will vote democratic, is if Hillary Clinton's name is on the ballot.

She should be his first Supreme Court appointment -- and that would REALLY help the United States, for a long time. She could be an excellent Justice.

If you are gonna weasel into back seat (V.P.) mothering Obama along, and Keeping a "Collar-leash" on "Slick Willy", and to think where they`ll screw up the "Veterans" and the "V.A.!" Cause I already know how the "Klink-Cons" hung we Vietnam Veterans out in the cold ! Obama you have no military idea of world complications that explain "FREEDOM ISN`T FREE" . I`m concerned for my fellow "Veterans". Meantime keep up the "REALALITY SHOW".

  1. I lost faith in Senator Clinton. She agrees with the rules committe initially and then when it benifits her she disagrees. Vote for war then against. I think the flip flop and spins concern our family enough that if Obama asks her to be his running mate we will not be able to give them our vote.

  1. Its time to come together, folks. lets leave the hate-mongering and bickering to the right-wingers. Lets put a Dem in office and put this country on a new track. The timing is critical, and we need everyone who cares about our future to jump in.

  1. We did not hear Senator Clinton's response in this interaction. We only heard Obama's words.
The race is not over yet.

  1. I am a registered Democrat. I have read the campaign platforms of both Clinton and Obama, and they are quite similar. I see nothing to dislike about either candidate, yet only one can be president. The purpose of the primary is to decide which one. I am willing to vote for either; however, I would prefer both. If I do not get my way, I am not going to behave like a 6-year-old. Hello?

  1. Obama,
like Bush stole the election from Gore you are the slime Bush is. I never voted for a republican but now I will. I think you are inexperienced, do not know how to run our government and we are better off with someone who knows more than you. Not to mention voters and others think you are a racist. It took you long enough to break away from your pastor/ friend of many years to reluntantly say you are not friends.
thank you for turning a lot of democrats to republicans. why don't you admit Hillary won - but you are not presidential enough to have Fla and Michigan be counted. Thank you for a Republican Victory. If you cared for this country you would admit someone with virtually no experience and with racist ties will hand the election over to McCain. Have your staff even done polls - don't you get it you will lose - the younger voters may like you but you lost the older democrat population, the jewish population, the lower income male voters and women. And you converted a majority of those groups to vote for McCain.
If you care about the democratic party (which i doubt - you only care about Africian Americans) you would step down. Again you cannot win and what makes it so that you cannot win is that you are a racist just like your pastor friend.
One more democrat is converting. The only reason I as a lot of democrats will not convert is if you either step down or you convince the better person to be VP.

    Yours truly, A formernominating Democrat!

I hope you are as happy with McCain as I am. You are definitely a spoiler.

  1. WE HAVE MORE THAN TWO CHOICES!!!!

IT'S NOT JUST A RACE BETWEEN DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS!!!!

SINCE EVERYONE HERE IS NOT GOING TO VOTE FOR HILLARY OR OBAMA, WHY DON'T YOU VOTE FOR THE CANDIDATE THAT BEST REPRESENTS YOUR BELIEFS?

FORM YOUR OWN OPINION AND VOTE WITH YOUR CONSCIENCE.

  1. All you haters should go jump in the lake; who put you incharge to call shots.
Your tired negative comments need to stop, especially when you do not know
your right foot from your left. If you are rally interested why didn't you run for
the position. While you hate start thinking about putting this country on its feet
since you have more than enough energy to express hate, hater. Aren't you
really interested in the better person rather than emotional in you quest?
Hilary took second place; how can you take second place in an event then
think you came in first place. Get a reality check hater.

  1. The reality check here is 18 million people voted for Hillary the highest popular vote ever in the United States. So tell me how Hillary is a loser. Obama won delegates in major cities whom are prodominately african american. Why did they vote Obama ? Hummmm I wonder. We all know that the Clintons supported the lower and middle class families all of you who voted Obama because of his race instead of his ability to run a country should be ashamed of yourselves. I have always been Democrat but after the terrible event with Gor You would think the Democratic party would give it to the one most likely to win and won the most votes like wise our own DNP would be helping the republicans take office. We need to make sure evey vote counts for candidacy.Like wise only specific major cities pick our candidate. Something wrong with that. By the way. Anyone out there know where we can write to to have this major problem fixed. I and all of America has a right to be heard.
