Obama meets with religious leaders
Barack Obama is reaching out to more religious leaders, and some supporters are doing the same.
NBC News is reporting that Obama is meeting privately this afternoon in Chicago with about 30 leaders from various faiths and denominations.
"Reaching out to the faith community is a priority for Barack Obama and will be a priority under an Obama administration. This is one of several meetings he will have over the coming months with religious leaders," campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters, NBC reported.
Meanwhile, the New York Times is reporting online that a new political action committee called the "Matthew 25 Network" is holding a $1,000-per-person fund-raiser tonight in Washington for Obama.
The Times says that a description of the group that came with the invitation says that the committee is hoping to reach out to “targeted religious communities that are key to electoral success for Senator Obama, including Catholics, moderate evangelicals, Hispanic Catholics and Protestants."
Obama is repairing any breaches caused by his relationship with the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., the former pastor at his former Chicago church.
