Obama, Strickland together Friday

Posted by Scott Helman, Political Reporter June 10, 2008 05:07 PM

Barack Obama will head into the heart of Clinton Country on Friday with a stop in Ohio. The campaign swing is notable for the man who will be on Obama's flank: Governor Ted Strickland, a staunch supporter of Hillary Clinton during the primary who helped the New York senator post an impressive 10-point victory in the March 4 primary.

Obama's schedule has him, his wife, Michelle, and Strickland in the Columbus area meeting with seniors as part of a "Change that Works for You" tour, the Illinois senator's two-and-a-half-week economy-focused jaunt through battleground states.

Strickland is often mentioned as a potential running mate for Obama, and with good reason: He knows Washington from having served in Congress, connects with white working-class voters, was ordained as a Methodist minister, and happens to lead a very important battleground state. Obama and Strickland on stage together Friday will be a sight to behold.

Obama was scheduled to be in Cedar Rapids, Iowa tomorrow, but his campaign has canceled the event due to flooding in Iowa and across the Midwest. "After speaking with Governor [Chet] Culver’s staff, the Obama campaign wanted to ensure that no resources were diverted from Iowans devastated by the floods," his campaign said in a statement.

UPDATE: Strickland, in an interview with NPR's "All Things Considered," seems to completely rule out being Obama's running mate: "Absolutely not. If drafted I will not run, nominated I will not accept and if elected I will not serve. So, I don’t know how more crystal clear I can be."

Good for Strickland. He most likely knows that Obama would be a disaster as president and commander in chief and does not want to be backing him as a vice president contender. I firmly believe the majority ofOhio voters will not vote for this man Obama as Ohio people are not radicals and ultra liberal like Obama

Strickland would have said yes in a heatbeat to Hillary Rodham Clilnton the candidate that can carry Ohio Ky,WVa,PA,NY Mass,Calif NJ and many states. The Dems made a fatal mistake with the super delegates listening to bias Republican Cable news and not listening to the voters.

Obama's has a good chance only if he has Hillary as his VP

Kathleen Sabelius is the best candidate for the job. A female VP is now crucial.

If you recall, during the primary season Stricland responsed the same way that he would not be the VP for Hillary....let's keep the stories straight. Obama will be a great President for our country and restore dignity and grace to the White House.
