The setting and a question for Clinton concession
Will they boo?
Besides how effusive Hillary Clinton is in her praise for Barack Obama, that's a big question leading up to Clinton's formal concession speech at noon Saturday in Washington.
The reception of Clinton's most ardent supporters to her endorsement of Obama will echo in the chosen setting -- the ornate great hall of the National Building Museum -- and in the general election campaign to come.
If Clinton's loyalists applaud enthusiastically, it could go a long way to uniting the party after an at times bitter nomination struggle.
But if her most vociferous supporters -- the ones who chanted "Denver, Denver!" at her non-concession speech Tuesday night because they wanted her to take the fight to the national convention -- offer a more tepid or negative reaction, it could make unity more difficult. And it would surely appear in ads for Republican John McCain.
Either way, Obama won't be there to hear the reaction -- he's taking the weekend off with his family.

How is Obama going to fend off negative ads, that is, their effect? Only some people will realize the strength of character and the point its making and intended to make by using only positive ads--those negative one, like the ones you can imagine capitalizing on the sour faces of Clinton's supporters as she backs dowen and supports him now. Anyone have any good, creative ideas about how Obama can counter-act negativity generally and specifically? I haven't a clue, but I want CHANGE in this bad old negative ad game.
Mary, I think he'll learn from the lesson of John Kerry, Mike Dukakis etc, and NOT turn the other cheek to an attack. He'll vigorously defend his honor and integrity when it is questioned, and the American people will respect him for it. That's what people like about McCain, and Obama is more than capable of following the same model.
Also, I certainly hope HRC's supporters don't heckle during her concession speech. If they do, they're booing her, not just Obama. If they admire her so much, they ought to respect her judgment.
I. too, feel like chanting "Denver, Denver" and don't know where I will go with my vote. My heart will remain with Hilliary. A lifetime democrat (for all my ninety-two years. It only makes sense that she be on the ticket. It's for Obomo,s own good
How is it possible for Hillary Clinton to harbor amicable feelings for Obama.?
Obama PIMPED, YES PIMPED the FLORIDA AND MICHIGAN VOTES,
WHICH THIS LOVELY LADY HAD WORKED HARD WITH THE SWEAT AND BLOOD OFF HER TOILING BROW TO ACHIEVE.
.
Obama and the Democrats, had deliberately set the Stage for this Poor Woman to fail.
NO WONDER SO MANY WOMEN FEEL ANGRY AND CHEATED.
Mary, one thing he can do is to employ a spell-checker and grammarian so he doesn't end up with words like "doewn" in his literature. Or to avoid a train wreck like: "Only some people will realize the strength of character and the point its [it's]making and intended to make by using only positive ads-- [;]those negative one [ones], like the ones you can imagine capitalizing on the sour faces of Clinton's supporters as she backs dowen and supports him now." I have a degree in linguistics, and I still can't figure out what you were trying to say there.
I hope Obama did NOT eat or drink anything offered him by BILLARY "remember what happened on June 6th when Robert Kennedy got assassinated" Clinton!
I think too much attention is paid to the rabid few, on both sides. They are loud, colorful, and attract the media. But it's a big country out there full of (mostly) normal, sane people, and it is they who will decide the election, and not the embittered hard core. No one should buy into a cult of personality with respect to any political candidate, and we should not give too much weight to the shrill, disrespectful prejudices, laments, and threats of those who do.
The most direct path to a Democrat victory is to have McCain articulate his positions clearly. He gets upset when he has to explain anything, which works against him, and he has positions that are so polarizing to many that they alone will remove his luster. (if any)
How Hillary's supporters respond depend a lot on Hillary's attitude. If she give a luke warm half hearted endorsement, the response will be negative. However, if she condedes the race, acknowledge that it was won fairly and that she was fairly treated, then the response will be different.
On Tuesday night, her speach was all about her. It was about her still holding on to the illusion that she should win that she was the better candidate.
The truth of the matter is, the best candidate won.
Can she admit that?
We'll see.
I wanna see her cry again!
I'm betting money with my friends that she doesn't in any way, say anything to the effect of "I give up", "he won", "I lost", or any other verbal confirmation that she's finished. She can't. She won't. She's so elitist she can't swallow that bitter pill. She's too deluded to accept that the American people don't want a scandalous socialist psycho in the White House. And you'll see herr true colors when she "concedes".
You guys don't understand yet do you? MORE of us voted for HRC than BO and we want her as our President, NOT HIM!
And that you all think we will just run to Obama is way off base. HRC was treated horribly by the MSM and the Dem party and those of us - 18 mil of us - want her to go to Denver and fight the bogus nod that BO got.
Not to mention she has what it takes to be president, SHE is the pick of the people.
BO is a shot in the dark and a risk many of us are not willing to take.
So say what you will- but after how this has all gone down 4 years of McCain looks a heck of a lot better to us than anything from BO and the Dem party.
Mary, your boy went negative a long long time ago. The best way to fend off this coming attacks would be to change his character and actually develop stances that he articulates clearly.
Obama - Change you can believe in, but not define, expect, measure, or understand. Or maybe he's referring to his rapidly changing positions...
To TRISH:
Your comments are inane. Your maths is bogus. You dont know how to add. Why does HRC not count the voice of millions who participated in caucuses? The same process that got her cheating hubby elected? Now you are crying AFTER accepting the rules that YOU thought you could win. Shame ! Shame!
And you dare to ignore tens of states where she got her knickers knocked off. You dare to ignore the voice of the people - the same people whos kids YOU voted to send to get killed in the war!!!!! How dare you!!!!! Dont the americans in these states bleed when they are shot at or killed.... because YOUR idiot candicate kissed bush's feet and prayed in his temple?
What morons!!! Go ahead and vote for McCain....and sign death warrents for your kids and grandkids. Idiots.
Trish,
Go and vote for McCain. Leave your bile at your home.
Trish,
Go and vote for McCain. Leave your bile at your home.
I am hoping that as much as I a WOMEN over 50 who was extremely unhappy with Pres. Clinton's behavior and therefore negative about Sen. Clinton and with grave reservations. I am hoping that the judgement of Sen. Obama not to support the war, to raise his funding through small donor and grassroots organizations, Caucuses and through many trials and tribulations ( because he is not without error in judgement) has made many decisions that have brought him to where he is TODAY. I believe that if as strong LEADERS in the Democrat party they can find middle ground that those who are disappointed and unhappy with his nomination will step back and realize as they do this is not about THEM or their backers. It is about electing a democrat in NOV.
We can blog like disappointed teenagers about not getting asked to a PROM by the right person or we can be ADULTS and continue with this process and continue to support not only Sen. Obama and his VP, but as many QUALIFIED democrats as there are on the tickets in NOV. He is only one person and he will need capable advisors and the support of a DEM Congress to accomplish OUR
GOALS. Bring our VETS home, NO MORE 2, or 3 TOURS.
It seem a little petty to complain about which one is elected, when the most important thing is to resolve IRAQ and it will take both of THEM to DO THIS!!!!
the democratic party has given the race to mcain, good job
This election is over before it has started. Anyone can see that there is deep schism in the party thanks to Hillary v. Obama. Because of it Mc Cain will win in a walk not a squeaker. My only question - What will befall the Democratic party in future years. This schism will leave deep and lasting scars. I can see Black and ultra Liberal Democrats pitted against card carrying Dems
If Hillary is not the V.P for Obama, as you will be know. I will be voting for McCain.
Sorry, but he is a better leader than Obama is.
It's so very ironic that the sole reason Senator Clinton was the last challenger standing with support for VPship is the sole reason she will not be the VP candidate - Bubba! My bet is if she goes for it again, he won't be in the picture.
When you seek old John McCain ............................................................ .
As your numbing Novocaine ............................................................
You may be finally going off track ............................................................
By closing your minds to Barack ............................................................
Who is the real cure for your pain!............................................................
..............................................................................................
..............................................................................................
Keep spewing the venom Hillary supporters ... let it out ... let it all out. God Bless.
Hillary felt entitled to win from the beginning -- the only reason she went to NY was to set the stage for Washington, D.C. Now, let her go back to NY and get health care for her residents there -- so far she hasn't succeeded in doing that in Arkansas or NY -- what a phony!
Shame on all you people.........She might have been the best person for the job, but obviously she wont get it. But, we as democrats have to support our party !!!!
If a democrat votes for McCain, they should be ashamed. Deal with whats happened, and lets take back the White House.
Sen Clinton formal conscession speech tomorrow Saturday in Washington will be pivotal to the success or failure of the Democratic Party. If she formally concede and endorse Obama, and she is picked as VP then the Dems goal of having a Democratic US President next year is viable. If Obama pick a VP candidate other than Hillary, then Sen McCain has a very good chance to win in November. Why?
The cross-over Democrats(COD), the dissappointed Clinton supporters, the white Americans who were angered and frustrated by Obama's ex-pastor the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's anti-white and anti-American racially charged statements, will sway to vote Sen John McCain.
I am a lifelong Democrat. Stop telling me what I "have to do". It is a national tragedy that Hillary is not the presumptive nominee. The Democratic Party, the voters, the media, and the Obama campaign all actly shamefully. The sexism was/is off the charts. I'll stay at home and watch old movies. I'll change my registration to Independent....or even Republican. I'll vote for McCain, or I won't. I'll vote for Obama, and hold my nose hard, or I won't. But don't tell me what I have to do. You blew it, you who are now telling us what to do, by voting for a dishonest manipulator with plenty of arrogance and charisma and not much else except a very troubling history.
This is what I hope will be a wake-up call for "Realsister," "Trish," and their compatriots, who vow to vote for McCain come November.
Simple question: what on earth are you talking about?
How could you possibly vote for a candidate who believes the diametrical opposite of *your* preferred candidate? Like it or not, but when it comes down to it, HRC and BO are 95% aligned, policy-wise. Is this reverse sexism at work -- supporting a candidate primarily for the most superficial and least significant of reasons: her gender? (Sorry, but take away everything that the candidates agree on, and you're basically left with a Y chromosome.) Is that so far off, ideologically speaking, from voting for or against a candidate because of their race? Not a pretty thought, but think about it.
More importantly, how could you possibly vote for a candidate who wants to keep us in the war? Who is ready to bomb Iran? Who wants to overturn Roe V. Wade? If for no other reason, give this last question some thought: in what way does it make sense that you -- presumably in the name of women's rights -- would vote for a candidate who wants to *strip* women of their rights?
I speak not as an Obama-ite, but as a former supporter of Hillary's candidacy. Believe me, I understand your disappointment. But please don't mistake petulance for political conviction. Right now, it's clouding your judgment to the extent that you're prepared to do something in November that isn't just wrong -- considering your purported political orientation, it's immoral.
You can bet with the Democratic party's media control tactics they will have the hall packed with Obama fanatics to make it seem like it's going over splendidly. See, Johnny likes broccoli, why don't you

All you Billary fans out there go vote for McCain, because you weren't Democrats to start with.
A TRUE DEMOCRAT REMAINS DEMOCRAT FOR LIIIIFFFFFEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
POLITICS OF REACTION
--
Voters for almost a generation, have voted against sitting Presidents, rather than FOR a new candidate.

Reverend Nazrat, there is a time and place for everything, and I strongly believe your intellect does not figure at the moment.
Please return to the class room rEvErEnD.
Hillary's unpredictable concession is an excellent tactic to focus the next presidential campaign in 2012.
In this 50/50 head neck race against the GOP, and we must understand the consequent that Obama will obviously lost without Clinton supporter strongly back up, especially the large proportion of 18,000,000 majority white voters and the female angrily voters. They will defect their vote to Senator John MacCain and surely the chance will not favor Obama and his backers anymore. Obama nomination is a great tragedy in Democratic Party.
Dear realsister ... Barack "a dishonest manipulator with plenty of arrogance and charisma and not much else"?? You are so ignorant. You don't think the creativity and organizational skills required to mount this campaign count for anything? You think Obama is just air head and know nothing about policy? If so, how could had weather all the intense questioning? You are SO selfish - can't give the other person credit for his accomplishments. And you can't see that Hillary Clinton is pretty arrogant, can you? Of course not. You're blind. Oh uh, I guess Hillary is Never manipulative. Never. Of course not. She's just SO pure, you know ... pure as snow.
I'm happy that Clinton is lost the race and Obama won. But don't be deceived into thinking that Obama is my preferred candidate. Remember Nader? It's just that we need to stop going back and forth between Bush's and Clinton's. That's bad for the national psyche. It makes us believe that our system is entirely rigged.
Something completely different is in order in 2008.
Read both party platforms. Then decide. Not on personality, charisma, or appearances, not on emotional reactions, not on spurious claims - decide which party you really want to support:

http://www.democrats.org/pdfs/2004platform.pdf
Read your state's party platform, as well. For example, this one's kind of...interesting:

Compare with:

I wanted Hillary, not someone who's middlename is Hussian, are people of the , USA nuts.
To Nazrat:
I will give you a sentence to break down and analyze, since you are intent on personally attacking the typing of other posters. Here it is:
You are a douchebag.
While awaiting Senator Clinton's arrival (12:40 pm), I've read Al Gore's concession speech. It gives me a point of reference for comparison. Suggested reading for all.
Whatever the decision, let it be. The speech would probably had more impact on Tuesday.
I have read may of the comments here, and I truly wonder if those of you who are bittter and anti-Obama listened to Senator Clinton's speech? She is a woman of great integrity and character, and I have NO doubt that if she felt Obama was not qualified, she would have not urged us to give him our full support. For those of you who are thinking of voting for McCain out of bitterness, understand that there is MUCH more in common between Obama and Clinton than McCain and Clinton. I love Hilary enough to trust her and do as she now requests. She deserves this. I am sure her worst nightmare would be that the vigorous fight that both she and Obama waged resulted in division of the party, resulting in a Republican staying in the White House. PLEASE THINK! Our country can NOT survive another Reublican.
