'You can't have him'
A hard-hitting new TV ad slams John McCain again for suggesting that US troops might be in Iraq for 100 years, albeit in a peacekeeping role.
In the spot, a young mother holding a baby boy speaks to the camera as if it were McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee.
"Hi John McCain," she says. "This is Alex. And he's my first. So far his talents include trying any new food and chasing after our dog. That, and making my heart pound every time I look at him. And so, John McCain, when you say you would stay in Iraq for 100 years, were you counting on Alex? Because if you were, you can't have him."
It is the latest effort by McCain's foes to capitalize on a remark he made at a January town hall meeting in New Hampshire that he could see American forces in Iraq for 50 or 100 years in the same kind of role as troops in Korea.
The ad is financed by the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, which had supported Hillary Clinton during the Democratic primaries, and by MoveOn.org, the antiwar group that has strongly supported presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama from early on. It is to begin airing nationally Wednesday on CNN and MSNBC, and also in Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

The Democrats are doing a good job of smearing McCain now that Clinton is out of the picture. In my opinion they are doing a much better job utilizing the internet than McCain is doing.
This mother is already use her baby for political campaign?Much worse than what Mccain was saying.I will never use my own precious child for political purpose, very dumb strategy.
apparently, MoveOn.org doesn't realize we have an all-volunteer military. apparently, they do not understand what McCain actually said in that quote.
just kidding. they know full well the lies they are spreading. and poor impressionable souls will believe them.
I'm a veteran of the First Infantry Division 56 years ago...I'm also a member of Moveon.org...I joined because of my objections to the Iraq war...my country once again needs me to protect our democracy...I'll keep donating until we are out of this war...
I'm a veteran too, of the 8th Infantry and 1st Armored divisions during Desert Storm/Shield. As a father of 2 young sons, I'd much rather they appear in a political commercial than enlist in a military that is as abused and misused as the DOD of today. Let John McCain and President Chimpy McCracksmoker go kill Iraqis their damn selves. It's a shame, but Moveon.org is doing more to protect our freedoms than all the branches of the armed forces put together.
Problems with using a baby for a political campaign.
That's worse than passively allowing your baby to be used as cannon fodder?
Is this human reasoning?
Don't humans value their infants?
"Impressionable souls" were those that believed Geroge Bush and authorized and accepted this war as a course of action which could be anything other a complete disaster. This ad transcends politics; it represents the views of countless parents, as well as young people like me, who worry about where the soldiers will come from to support the numerous fronts that John McCain would choose as the next battlegrounds for the War on Terror, including staying in Iraq. A veteran as prestigious as John McCain should be looking out for men and women in uniform- not condemning them to this fate- clearly there are many brave veterans who posted comments above that reflect far more good sense.
The child is her first born. John McCain is the angel of death, taking children to man the 58 permanent bases that will be used to protect the oil companies's no-bid oil contracts in Iraq, none of them accountable. You can't have any more.
until the dems treat the milatary and the veterans with dignity and respect some of the billions they have given to the rich they will have a place in hell waiting for them to be escorted by the over forty-six thousand killed inthis present conflict
In wwII france was not one war ,germany not another, Italy not another and so on but then FDR was not a liar covering his tracks wake up congress each and everyone are failures who support bush-chaney lies
This is one great ad. It's not that Alex's mom really would withhold her son from the military, but the point is that with John McCain as President, little Alex could be fighting in Iraq when he is 18 -21 or whatever.
Our military is an all-volunteer military.. so "Alex"can decide weather or not he wants to join. I was impressed when a friend of mine signed up right after 911. He vounteered to protect our freedom and the freedom of others. Alex's mom might not want her son to serve- but I hope she thanks the mothers of all the soldiers that have died through all of the years our country has had a military. They have helped to grant and protect the freedom we have now. I grew up in a military family- my dad is a retired A.F. colonel. I don't think that we are doing all the right things at this moment.. voting for this new president is like choosing the least of the two evils... No one is going to make your son serve our country- but if he chooses to I will honor all that he does for us.. Please honor what others have done as well.
Mom to John McCain: “When you say you would stay in Iraq for a hundred years were you counting on Alex, because if you were you can’t have him. No, sir. Alex is going to have a nice, safe job like accounting. Maybe he’ll work in one of those big New York office buildings.” [What a dumb ad]
That commercial is horrific!!! What does it say to all our service men and women who are serving to give that woman and her child protection and freedom. It's a selfish, self-absorbed person who would be willing to make such an ad.
We have troups all over our world and to insult them in this way is an outrage!!
We need to be on our knees praying for them and thanking them for all they have done and given up to protect our great nation. Shame on all of you who had part in creating such a slauder towards the loyalty we should have for this nation and the most of all for the men and women who serve us.
Hi Hussein Obama This is my AR15. He is my first. So far his talents include shooting your campaign signs at 600 yards. That and making my heart pound every time I look at him (bitter-me) And so Hussein, when you say you are going to ban guns, were you counting on little AR15? Because if you were, you can’t have him.
This world is filled with hatred. We Americans can not control other countries actions. Unfortunaly we are in a war and we need to stand up for what this country stands for. I don't believe in this war or any war for that matter. No war is a good war. Speaking to someone whose youngest brother just signed up to join our nations armed forces, we need to respect and pray for our men and women. As far as this ad "little Alex" is not forced to inlist. No one is taking your baby; however, McCain Is out of his mind if he thinks he's going to win voters who have love ones in the arm forces, such as myself, if he plans on having our troops stay in Iraq for 50-100 years. We have families all over America who are starving, homless and jobless. Yet were spending billions of dollars on a war that shouldnt have been carried on for this long.
Also, I love how after 911 american pride was everywhere. American Flags were on almost everybodys cars, bumper stickers with american flags were on car windows and homes everywhere. Why dont we see that as much anymore? Why do we have to have a herific event that killed thousands of our people for us Americans to show our pride?
