Kaine on Obama's short list?
The latest veep boomlet is for Virginia Governor Tim Kaine.
The Politico website is reporting this afternoon that Kaine ranks very, very high on the short list," for Democrat Barack Obama. Politico cited a "source who has spoken recently to senior Obama aides about Kaine," who also said Kaine is "getting a critical examination."
The Washington Post is also reporting that Kaine and Obama are having serious discussions about the post.
Politico said Kaine's biography "nicely dovetails" with Obama's.
As the Globe reported last month in a profile of Kaine: "He is the popular governor of a critical swing state. He has working-class roots and a Harvard degree, and strong support from both business and labor. He is a devout Catholic and speaks fluent Spanish, and was the first governor outside Illinois to endorse Barack Obama for president."
The conventional wisdom is that Obama will name his running mate in the next two weeks, before the Olympics start on Aug. 8 and before he takes a vacation before the Democratic National Convention, which starts Aug. 25. MSNBC spotted him today in Washington at the office of former attorney general Eric Holder, who along with Caroline Kennedy is leading the vetting process for V.P. candidates.

The obvious stumbling block: a lack of foreign policy and Washington experience. Kaine's downside is his relatively short tenure in a state that limits governors to one term. Larry Sabato, a professor of political science at the University of Virginia, said "they are two of a kind." Sabato added; "He's been governor of Virginia for two and half years and putting him on the ticket reinforces the argument of lack of experience".
OH GREAT!!! More of Obamasame!! No foreign policy experience. No Washington experience (you still have to work with Congress believe or not Obama).
And oh yes, the reward for Teddy endorsing Obama is to have his niece picking the VP. Same old same old politics. What on earth kind of "CHANGE" is that?!!!
Obamasame Obamasame Obamasame......
P.U.M.A. Reigns!!!
Virginians thought they wanted change when they elected Kaine. Kaine knows he's out at the end of this term. He's probably sucking up to Osama, I mean Obama. Is it Osama or Obama, the BS is confusing sometimes.
Obama & Kaine - aka "One Term Wonders". How man social programs with be coming down the pike with these two jokers? They'll bring home the troops and then we will be fighting the fight here on our soil, unarmed. Better buy your rifle, pistol and shotgun now because once the liberals take over, that right will be taken away.
He simply cannot win without Hillary. No one else can deliver the voting blocs that she can....and without her they will not vote for him. Lest we forget-----she won the popular vote.
He can't win without Hillary. No one else can deliver the voting blocs that she can. They will not vote for him without her on the ticket. He will lose and we will suffer four more years of Bush-ism. If he doesn't know that he needs her----then he is not a s smart as we are giving him credit for.
the bigger stumbling block
is this guy is anti-gay rights and anti-choice... on top of no experience anywhere outside of 2.5 years as governor of virginia...and a mixed bag of 2.5 years.
If Obama picks Kaine...it gives McCain the opportunity and cover to pick Ridge ...to which we would lose PA, Ohio, maybe Michigan and yes a good chance Virginia (it is a heavily military state).
sad day for America if obama picks Kaine
The short list has all the usual suspects. Think outside the box. Outsider with insider clout. Charisma, intelligence, likeability, and legacy. Caroline Kennedy should be drafted at the convention.
My shortlist...
1. Joe Biden
2. Ed Rendell
3. Robert Rubin
4. Bill Richardson
All better picks than Kaine.
joe biden? what, are you nuts? joe biden is no better than any of these other jokers
