McCain gigs media, again

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor July 24, 2008 07:00 PM

John McCain gets another little dig in at the press tonight, even at an event about fighting cancer.

The summit in Columbus, Ohio, is hosted by Lance Armstrong, the six-time winner of the Tour de France, the biggest race in cycling.

"You have billed this event as a presidential town hall, and I sincerely hope that the next president is here today," McCain said, according to prepared remarks issued by his campaign.

"My opponent, of course, is traveling in Europe, and tomorrow his tour takes him to France. In a scene Lance would recognize, a throng of adoring fans awaits Senator Obama in Paris -- and that's just the American press."

The McCain campaign has complained publicly and often that the media is enthralled by Obama, resulting in unequal and unfair coverage of the campaign.

  1. Phil Graham was right, there is a nation of Whiners: Campaign McCain.

Clinton tried this and it looked bad, McCain doing it just looks pathetic.

  1. Unfair my Y Know What!
Americans have a media bias perception problem. The team who cries the loudest and most effective wins in the media bias game. That's it plain and simple. Rush Limbaugh used to say there is no media bias, until of course he and the others saw the big gains in promoting media bias in the form of "liberal media". There was no REAL liberal media except the perception they pushed. They whined the loudest, and have succeeded in the perception game, that's all! How do you think Fox got so powerful? They caught the liberals with their pants down, because not many of them saw this, and most still don't. John McCain is winning this game, even though he has historically been one of the most loved politicians in recent history with the media in general. The republicans have been the best at the perception game, turning them a complete 180 degrees - Like the "Clear Skies Initiative", and calling liberals "Fascists" when Republicans clearly are the Corporatists that Fascism is. Republicans are the best at nipping perception problems in the bud, before it hurts them. They do this by promoting the exact opposite ASAP, in other words - accuse the Democrats of the very same problem, which is very effective in today's media.
