McCain returns to New Hampshire

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor July 15, 2008 05:36 PM

John McCain plans to return to New Hampshire next week for another of his favorite forums -- a town hall meeting.

McCain's campaign announced today that he will appear next Tuesday morning at the Rochester Opera House. The presumptive Republican nominee often says -- as he did today during a town hall in Albuquerque, N.M. -- that he has learned more from such gatherings than briefings in Washington.

McCain challenged Democrat Barack Obama to a series of town halls before their parties' respective conventions, but the campaigns have failed to agree on the details. Adam Nagourney writes in The New York Times about the twists and turns and politics of the town hall meeting.

UPDATE: New Hampshire won't be McCain's only New England stop next week, as the presumptive Republican nominee's campaign announced plans for four events in Maine Monday.

McCain will speak at the Maine Military Museum in South Portland Monday afternoon, at about 12:30 p.m., following three fundraisers in Kennbunkport earlier in the day, the Associated Press reported.
