Nader reaches ballot goal

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor July 21, 2008 06:12 PM

Ralph Nader's presidential campaign said today it has collected enough signatures to get on the ballots of 15 states for November.

In an email to supporters, the consumer advocate's campaign said it has reached its second ballot access goal. The remainder is 30 states by Aug. 8, 40 by Sept. 1, and 45 by Sept. 15.

Some Democrats fear that Nader could take away votes from Barack Obama in key, close states, as he did in 2000 from Democrat Al Gore.

  1. i'm glad you guys finally covered something about the campaign, but it's pretty cliche and lame that the only thing you thought important to add was that some Dems are afraid. Last week Bush was bragging about how he was accomplishing so much stuff he wanted even with a Dem congress (whatever happened to being a lame duck at the end of a presidency anyway?)--why don't you cover how Nader actually has the guts to stand up for something as opposed to FISA-voting, PATRIOT Act reauthorizing, War funding-passing Obama (and don't get me started on McCain!)?

  1. Well done Nader Raiders on the petition drive.
We're on our way to being in 45 states. We have a chance to win this for the 1st time if every state will have the ability to vote for him. Can't wait.

  1. It is about time we hear and see in-depth coverage of the Nader & Gonzalez Presidential platform , as well as exposure of the Bonusgate Scandal. How about interviewing Mr. Nader & Mr. Gonzalez, and providing a forum for them to elaborate on the critical issues like health care- (Single Payer), livable wages, repealing the anti-union Taft Hartley Act, ending the illegal wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, slashing the out of control military budget, sustainable energy, supporting small organic farmers, and working to end corporate personhood to name just a few -that the mainstream candidates merely pay lip service, or ignore.

  1. Pretty lame is right - but sadly typical too.

  1. Great job for all the hard work, Nader/Gonzalez supporters, for fighting to give the American people a viable choice for president this November!

The MA team has begun turning in petitions, and we have just over 20,000! The requirement is 10,000, but we wanted to collect as many as possible to avoid any problems with the exasperating verification process.

There will also be at least 2 Nader/Gonzalez MA house parties coming up on our National House Party Day: Saturday, July 26th!

Thanks again, everybody, for giving the Campaign such a solid push! And you bet we're going to earn votes from former Obama supporters! That's the nature of American democracy--working hard for what is best for the people, and earning their trust, support, and votes! Ditch the Corporate Candidates and go with the real deal: Nader/Gonzalez '08!

    Best,

  1. The only way to avoid living in the corpocracy is to vote for someone that rails against that control. Nader has ALWAYS pursued that end for the benefit of the constitution, and all of the people in this country. I'm not proud to be american, I'm shocked by how this country has ignored the transformation to ignorance. Dwight Eisenhower tried to warn us, control of this country is no longer the peoples', and if we don't vote our conscience now, when will we? We as a people, should display a society that believes in and promotes fairness and justice in this country as an example for other governments to emulate. This is America's responsibility.
Beware the military / industrial / corporate complex.
    Vote Sanity, Vote Nader

  1. I'm glad to see the "masses" rallying behind Nader once again. It is a shame that he had never made a serious run for this office. Do you really think he has? The man that has taken on the same powers in private life can't figure out how to do it politics? He gave up early in 2004 and in reality, regardless of biased controls of the press has not even started in 2008. Yea 15 states by July 15. Sure topple the powers of the strongest country in world history in 16 weeks (It takes that long for Indiana alone). The sad thing is, if Nader did run a serious campaign he could win. The sadder thing is only a few care. You want chagnge? You want power back to the people? Then you need to engage the people and have them use their power. We can change every major seat with exception of 33 or 34 Senators in this election year if the people take their power and enact upon it. We will have a new person for President, the opportunity to change 435 House of Reps and 66 or 67 Senators, but if recent history holds true we will re-elect 92% and we will get exactly what we deserve.

NO INCUMBENTS - Restore your power!
