No veep slot for Webb
Senator Jim Webb of Virginia, a decorated military veteran and swing-state emissary often mentioned as a possible running mate for Barack Obama, said unequivocally today that he does not want the job. Webb said in a statement that he believes his "efforts and talents" are better suited to the Senate.
"Last week I communicated to Senator Obama and his presidential campaign my firm intention to remain in the United States Senate, where I believe I am best equipped to serve the people of Virginia and this country," he said. "Under no circumstances will I be a candidate for vice president."
Regardless, Webb said, he will campaign hard for Obama in Virginia, a traditionally Republican state that many observers think is up for grabs this year.
"At this time I am also renewing my commitment to work hard to make sure that Senator Obama wins both Virginia and the presidency this November," Webb said. "He is a man who speaks eloquently about our national goals and calls for the practical solutions that must be put into place to obtain them. I will proudly campaign for him."

I am glad he has taken himself out of the running. I am not sure of Virginia's process if he had been selected/elected & would have had to resign from the Senate on replacing him. I am guessing that the Governor would have had the opportunity to seat a Republican, w/ would adversely affect the majority control that the Democratic Party in the US Senate now has & should be able to increase after November.
