Obama plans birthday fete in Boston
By Brian C. Mooney, Globe Staff
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama will celebrate his 47th birthday in Boston with a giant fundraising event at the State Room on Aug. 4.
The event, which will include a dinner and an earlier reception for larger donors, is expected to raise several million dollars for the campaign and Democratic Party. News of the event was announced via e-mail to members of Obama's New England steering committee on Tuesday.
The first-term senator from Illinois, a graduate of Harvard Law School, will mark his birthday in a room with one of the great panoramic views of Boston Harbor. The State Room, on the 33rd floor of 60 State Street, features a glass wall, 30 feet by 120 feet and the facility seats up to 800.
It will be Obama's first visit to Boston since a rally on the eve of the Massachusetts primary, which he lost to Hillary Clinton on Super Tuesday on Feb. 5.

To Barack Obama,
Thank You for being who you are.
" Don't worry about the small stuff; Big stuff takes care of it's self.
There are alot of children, also adults, who do not know the PREAMBLE.
THANK YOU FOR PUTTING GOD FIRST IN ALL THAT YOU DO
(I hope one day prayer will be back in the schools)
Thank Gov.Deval Patrick, and Lt. Gov.Timothy Murray (for me) for all they are doing.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Senator/Nominee BARACK OBAMA
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to YOU and many Blessings to all
You are an inspiration to us all. I think of JFK and RFK when I hear you speak and take action with dignity and grace. We sincerely need a "C" change in America right now and am confident you will lead us.
Gov Patrick and Mr Murray are making an impact on this State for years to come. I am proud that the three of you will be in Mass. on August 4. As Tim Russert would say, "Go get em" !
Happy birthday, Obama. A great senator and a strong presidential candidate for the Dems.
I hope Romney will be on McCain's ticket, then more people will decide to vote for McCain rather than Obama, King of empty talk and vacuous smile.
BostonAgainstObama, do you REALLY believe that having Romney on McCain's ticket will cause the people of MA to vote for him??? You had better "go back to sleep" and get back to your dreamworld! NOBODY in MA could stand him when he was Governor (or should I say "Absentee" Governor)! What makes you think we would like him now?????
Barack Obama is the best thing that's happened to America in so long we can barely remember what it was.
PUMAs will be there to protest!
My sign will say "Happy Birthday Obama, Where Were You Born?"
His birth certificate is a fake, he may not have been born in the U.S., and he may be an Indonesian citizen. Our Constitution requires presidential candidates be born in the U.S. and not have dual citizenship.
Hillary or McCain 08!!!!!
