Republicans parody Obama Berlin speech
Republicans just put out a parody of what a campaign ad featuring Barack Obama's massive speech in Berlin might look like.
The biggest public event of Obama's foreign tour, Obama's address last week drew an estimated 200,000 people and wall-to-wall media coverage.
The Republican National Committee's web spot picks up on John McCain's campaign officials snarkily referring to Obama as "The One," and suggests that Obama was being grandiose by talking to the "people of Berlin, people of the world."
There's also a mention of another very popular American in Germany, actor David Hasselhoff of "Baywatch" fame, a weird techno music/strobe light effect, and a snippet of Obama's face pasted on Leonardo DiCaprio's in the "king of the world" scene from "Titanic."

This is all the RNC can promise voters in the coming election? A bit of mocking parody? Where is any sense of what the RNC can provide? It sounds as if they are cheerleading for Sen. Obama as well. Someone is also (as per the Love ad) trying very hard to relive the 1960s/70s with the strobe light effect. It is hard to see ANYTHING about this ad that would make someone want to vote for John McCain.
If McCain wins the election and he rids this country of Obama, is there anything else he wants to do?
It's so nice to see how mature the republicans are showing themselves to be when they take what was a dignified speech about positive foreign relations and turn it into a mockery. The rest of the world hasn't spent much of the last decade looking down on us for exactly this type of thinking, has it? Is it possible that we might get further using honey than vinegar? That is, after all, what sour grapes turn into.
I love it how the RNC wants to divide the country to "them and us" They are not helping McCain's image as a maverick and one who can reach accross the isle if they are portraying Obama supporters as the hippies in the 70's, but whats worse is that they are trying to make fun of the people of Berlin......thats foreign policy???
Here's another thought......the best parodies are on things that had a huge impact....Star Wars gets parodied all the time because it was groundbreaking.....the RNC has taken this opportunity to do a parody of Obama because his speech was historic.....
The RNC uses the same tactics each and every year.....using parts of the opponents policies, and out of context, to show that our American rights are taken away, attacking the opponents personal attributes, making their opponent seem un-American, and attacking their family or long lost past.........Its disgusting
The RNC knows no bounds when it comes to the white house.....Remember mccain and bush in bush's re-election.......bush attacked Cindy McCain and her hard fought addiction to pain pills......thats sick.......If the RNC wants to win in this age of information, I would suggest they change their tone to focus on the issues, not headlines and not spin
Agreed with #1... McCain is clearly playing catch up to Barack and all he can do is come out with a new parody video every few days? Is this a high school campaign or a Presidential campaign? What a joke... McCain might be putting out these videos to cover up him going back on his "no new tax" rule.
Pathetic.
Good Lord! McCain is the glass man. Not just the would-be-emperor with no clothes, but no color, no character either. I wouldn't vote for McCain on a bet!!!
Republicans are bankrupt. Bush has given us a $400 billion budget deficit and McCain spends his time with parody, distortion and lies. What about talking about program and issues. If the American people--especially in the center of the country-- are so stupid as to vote for these corrupt clowns again, then they deserve what they get: unemployment, home foreclosures, and climate change.
Cool commercial for Obama. I will definitly vote for him now.
McCain gets 85 million dollars from who? And he spends it on ads like this? I still can't believe the polls are close. Something is wrong..
This video, as well as the other snarky videos that attempt to lampoon Obama are more non-sensical than anything. As some of the other people here have remarked, it's not quite clear if they are trying to hurt Obama or help him. I think it is a 'too little, too late' attempt by the RNC to appeal to the Web 2.0 masses who are already in Obama's hip pocket because of the Obama camp's perfectly executed social media campaigns. The thing is, even if McCain's internet efforts weren't tone-deaf, they don't have the momentum that Senator Obama's web presence does. McCain will be lucky if his internet/social media campaigns even gain traction by the inauguration in 2009.
We knew that it was only a matter of time before the Republicans would resort to their usual smear tactics and personal attacks. It is certainly a measure of how morally and politically bankrupt they are in terms of ideas, energy, and leadership. It is act of desperation and it will backfire in November.
I just read your comments without watching this parody. I'd like to go to sleep in a good mood..........
Just disgusting from the Republicans. Could they come up with some real issues that matter most to us. I used to be a McCain supporter because I thought he was a true maverick but the last couple of weeks I have only seen divisive politics from him, his campaign and the RNC, doing nothing else than to criticize Obama for his positions and his policies. I ask McCain, his campaign and the RNC to come up with real positions and policies and see how critical it could get when you think. Not thinking anything on one's part and only criticizing the opponent on what he has thought on his part is real easy but is pathetic and very unpresidential. I think I will never vote for McCain if he doesn't corrects himself instead of just going after Obama. In that case, I am voting Obama this November.
I think the republican party should stick to policy, and let the Daily Show take care of the satire.
Uh Oh another article about Obama. No mention of McCain.
Something else for rigthist radio host to whine to their audience about.
See it doesn't matter if the article is positive or negative.
As long as they can complain about the amount of attention paid to Obama.
Funny thing is no one in the media spends more time on Obama than
right wing talk show host.
I
I guess this just proves that the GOP really is the party of sit-on-your-living-room-couch-and-snark-at-all-the-dirty-foreign-germans-talking-about-change-and-a-better-world. (Oh, and did we forget to mention that three of the 200,000 people in the crowd were either punks or marxists or both?) Seems McSame really is stumping hard for Obama these days. . .
Someone should break into the RNC headquarters and untie the adults.
Typically. So basically they see repairing relations with the rest of the world a something worthy of scorn and mockery, just like George Bush, the most unpopular president in history. I figured as much.
Maybe Obama should parody some of McCain's successful campaign moments...oh wait, there hasn't been one.
Never lived in States but I have always held the US in high regard - this parody make me question if anyone should listen to Americans dictate to the rest of the world on the virtues of a democracy the basic tenet therein of common decency !-The RNC is just offensive -its a no wonder the jihadist want all of us dead!!
Europe has been our saving grace in this country. At least there have been European countries that have opened factories here and at least some Americans are still employed. The Germans and French have been reaching out to us to make amends. I respect the new French and German president. If there is WWIII I would want them on our side. We have fallen on hard times and maybe we can work together with our allies. President Lincoln and Grant would have been embarrased to see what his GOP has become. At least Obama has the right idea. Let us become United again between Dems and Repubs let us not act like the Planet of the Apes. We need a strong Europe and a strong North and South America , I don't think the Russians and Chinese are really our friends.
Honestly, I recall the speech giving us a good look at the next leader of the free world. Obama is well educated on history, religion, and politics. I will give him my lady liberty vote on November 3, 2008.
Why doesn't the RNC focus on what is good about their guy instead of obsessing about Obama. McCain is so obviously jealous it truly is pathetic.
Hmmm...If the republicans spend more time on the issues, they could actually lead this country into prosperity. With the balooning budget...imagine the $$ they spend on negetive campaigns.
- Bernake
Republicans can't seem to avoid self-parody even when they're trying to parody someone else.
LOL
Someone should inform Republicans that a Parody is supposed to make you laugh. This wasn't a parody, it was a waste of my time.
The more the RNC speaks of of isolationist nations, the more it sounds like that is what they want America to become. No thanks RNC.
Don't need no Germans that we defeated to tell us who we should vote for as a president. They probably go for a bad choice for revenge.
So please vote opposite what the Germans wants.
Did the RNC just find youtube circa 2000? I don't even understand what they're trying to accomplish by mocking the fact that 200,000 people went to see Obama speak.
The internet is a series of tubes that you should stay away from, RNC.
Poor B. Hussein Obama! All that pandering to Euro-Socialists, and nothing to show for it.
Independent and now very for Obama. Does McCain truly believe we swing voters are that stupid? I would appreciate someone who gives me a little more credit.
Republicans are so threatened by real leadership that they use cynicism to snuff out signs of hope and trust. No wonder their party is full of corruption. This party can't bear the light.
The status quo conservatives are really, really nervous. The Obama movement's quick ascent has generated envy, jealousy and even hatred.
Close to 50% of the nation is ready for a leap of faith Obama can deliver.
I'm not 100% sure Obama will make things better. I am 100% sure Republican will mess it up.
He the Blame America First Crowd - I know it's hard to blieve, but most Americans do not believe in European Socialism.
Can you hear that?....It's the wind sucking out ot Barry's (Name before he change to Barack) poll numbers!!
This is ridiculous. i'd be embarrassed to be a republican.
Obama in the media is like watching the "I Love Lucy" episode where she easts the candy on the conveyor belt over and over again! I can't look at another magazine or watch TV until after the election. Please people! If this guys needs someone to hold his sweaty jock, the media will line up!
I was a McCain supporter until I saw this. I think my only option now is to vote for Nader. I read his conversation with Pat Buchanan in American Conservative and he's probably closer to true conservatism than McCain could be. At least the guy seems focused on the issues and cares about the country. All McCain and Obama care about is getting elected. That is one concern Nader doesn't appear to have.
Shame on both of these losers for thinking the voters view the election as entertainment. We're get it, and we're mad as hell.
Obama is the Messiah. Kneel before the Great One. He has returned! Is it any surprise he is attracting Marxists? Some of you democrats crack me up. Quit getting your panties all knotted up. As a minority, Obama represents the worst in us. He represents abortion, socialism and even worse I don't trust him to defend our country. Will he hold a poll when deciding whether to defend us? Will he hold a poll on whether deciding to let bin Laden doing a victory march into Washington DC? I don't vote Democrat or Republican but Obama is the only candidate on either side that actually scares me. Before you say I'm racist, I'm darker than probably 95% of you and its not a fake tan.
HAHAHAHAHAH! This is the icing on the cake as far as I, an Obama supporter, am concerned. This just completely drives the point home that McCain has absolutely no way to win "on his own." Coming up with the same old Republican negative campaigning is SOOOOO year 2000.
I was actually looking forward to a good fight this election year -- at least Hillary and Barack were interesting and fun to watch for awhile. I actually like McCain quite a bit, and (unfortunately) my husband is voting for him in November. But now he and his campaign have nothing left. They should have started off touting McCain's attributes, of which he has plenty, but instead they stooped to the old politicking that got W elected. Twice. Yick.
Am I misinterpreting the tone of these comments as intimating that John McCain has some sort of corner on political parody, or that this ad is the only thing that McCain has done to further his campaign? The RNC can and has come up with a lot more reasons than what is portrayed in this ad to not vote for Senator Obama. I am not a Bush fan or a McCain fan. But Obama has said nothing about plans that will reduce the deficit. He wants to take troops out of Iraq and put them in Afghanistan. This isn't going to save any money. even if it did, he has explicitly said that he will use the money on other government programs. He plans on increasing taxes on employers, which is not going to help our economy. He thinks Afghanistan is more important than Iraq. Why? Victory in Iraq would tremendously bolster America's credibility in the international community, while defeat would only exacerbate the current distaste many have for us.
I don't particularly care for negative ads. But what will it take for people to evaluate Obama's credibility and competence? Being a nice guy isn't enough. Doesn't anyone remember Jimmy Carter?! What a nightmare! McCain is definitely the lesser of two evils here.
McCain has shown himself to be dishonorable.
Shocking that Europeans might like an American presidential candidate!! It does seem that the GOP is fresh out of anything but snarky Ann Coulter-ish pouting. I guess it does become harder and harder to find anything positive from the past 8 years to run with.
Is anyone else starting to think that maybe McCain won't be the candidate at the end of the Republican nominating convention? It's not set in stone...

Yeah right Wes. And what have the Repugs done for you lately?
Republicans ought to know a lot about parody. Just look at the Bush administration and the last 8 years. Parody; right? A joke; right? Anyone laughing? Didn't think so. If you want the country to go down the drain, you'll vote for McCain. If you want to reclaim the United States' position as a world leader, you'll vote for Obama.
Obama in his statements to the German's said, "people of Berlin, people of the World - our time has come." Our time has come? He wants to rule the world and really believes he could! Words mean things and this was no slip of the tongue.
Strange times, strange candidates - but remember - 'We live by the choices we make'. Think! Listen! Decide!
I see the Republicans are keeping the culture war flames fanned. Great way to bring the country together, guys. Imagine if the Democrats came out with an ad mocking the southern culture.
contermporary politics is nothing miore than show biz with obama's,bombast
misquoting both the Bible and American history, stealing the scripts of presidents Kennedy and Reagan, for starters.. He's the ultimate "con man"
the Pied Piper leading us down the thorny path of tax-happy liberalism.
Funny how all the libs think McCain needs to talk about the issues. What has Obama said specifically about any issue? Nothing? Oh, well, there will be change. Specifically what his advisors or the European union hasn't told him yet. Obama would make a great president of the World as far as having *some* general views about almost everything under the sun. Unfortunately there's no such position as of yet. And incidentally, how many of you patriotic liberal own something with an american flag on it. Liberals are the most anti-American people in this country and if you all would like European style govenment, why not jsut move somewhere else where this is already "succeeding" as well as you all claim.
This ad is pretty dumb and poorly done to boot so not sure what the idiots in the RNC were thinking if they actually had anything to do with putting this out. But the underlying message that Obama is an empty glass couldn't be more true. I can't wait until Barry has to debate someone live and gets asked some real questions without a script. McCain, who strikes me as no genious, will make Barry look like a stuttering fumbling dufus. Break out the popcorn! (Of course I won't use butter as this has animal fats that disturb mother earth and of course I'll cook it using solar energy to help maintain the earth's core temperature).
I am Canadian, and I am organizing millions of my fellow citizens to start building a huge wall between us and America if McCain wins in the fall. Perhaps we can dig a moat too. If you elect McCain after re-electing Bush, we really do have to cut ties, just like I would if I had a crack addicted brother. Its rehab or nothing buddy.
That's all they got, folks! Sad, sad, sad.
To mario, #50: Dearheart, Obama is pro-choice (like me) and has about twenty other "stances" that I also personally agree with. If you don't know about how a candidate stands on certain issues, then heaven forbid, go to their website and find out! Or ask an Obama supporter. If all you hear are soundbites from YouTube entries, then you won't hear anything but what the McCain campaign wants you to hear.
I truly love my country, I support the troops 100%, and proudly fly the flag all year 'round at my home. And I'm a liberal. I am also a huge fan of the Constitution, and that is yet another reason I'm voting for Obama...I'm pretty sure our forefathers included some kind of entry (!) that would pertain to wiretapping today. If the executive branch has that kind of power, the checks and balances this nation affords us are shattered and the line is no longer clear. A vote for McCain is a vote against the Constitution as far as I'm concerned. A vote for Obama makes that horrible scenario disappear.
Educate yourself and you will find great power in knowledge.
Obama was in Titanic too??? Wow he is AWESOME!
Barach Hussein Obama has made his position on drilling offshore for oil perfectly clear-he dosen't like the idea of drilling offshore to maintain our countries supply of crude oil and .Instead he prefers to go along with the wind mill far left attitudes and most importantly for what ever reason to keep draining our nations wealth to the arab oil rich countries.
He had better come up with some new and better excuses to continue to drain our countries economic wealth by restricting our nations growth,if he gets elected.
Obviously the RNC is not good at parody. They should leave it to the experts at the New Yorker. Nonetheless, their main point is valid and clear. We don't need Lord Obama, Superman Obama, or Obama, President of the Universe. We cannot put responsibility on someone with an ego of galactical proportions. They often turn out to be Hitler or Amin or the First Emperor of China. Obama has shown that he is not only naive, but also dangerous.
I have to vote for McCain. I wish we had Hillary vs Romney instead. Then we'll have real choices.
