Mitt Romney indicated today that he would accept an offer to be John McCain's running mate, but isn't counting on it.
"I think any Republican who was offered the chance to be VP would certainly serve their party and serve our nominee and do so proudly," Romney told KOA radio in Denver.
He added, however, "I think there's some great people he could choose from and I expect he will do that. But I don't plan on being part of the ticket."
In the vice presidential speculation, the former Massachusetts governor has been mentioned often, particularly since McCain has had kind words for his former rival.

Add Romney and win. It's that simple.
Romney wins you what? A thrashing? You have to be joking. He is disliked by: Evangelicals (because of his wacky religion - and I'm sorry to offend any Mormons out there, but it's WACKY), Conservatives (because of his constant flip-flops on every possible issue), Moderates (because they don't trust him), Gun Lobbyists (because they don't trust him), Pro-lifers (because they don't trust him) and pretty much anyone outside of maybe the top 3% of income earners in the country, Mormons and the nimrods who haven't gotten him pegged as a used car salesman yet.
Romney would make a great snake oil salesman - not a VP, sorry.
JP you are an Idiot no your a dumb ass. Who cares about religion. Obama is going to win no matter who McCain picks
"Add Romney and win. It's that simple."
Jayla............
In the words of the immortal Mr. Meat Loaf..................
"You took the words right out of my mouth."
Romney is more qualified to be president than Mccain, Obama and whatever hack Obama eventually picks to be his VP combined.
Romney's succeeded i n the public and priavte sector. He knows more about the economy than Obama aand Mccain combined. The guy's resume glows in the friggin dark.
It's always amusing seeign liberals liek JP make posts like they actually kniow something about the GOP or how we think. I'm a conservative and I love Romney as do many of the other conservatives I know. evangelicals may not love him but I garentee you when it comes time to choose between Romney and abortion and gay marriage at all costs Obama, most of them will vote for Mccain/Romney in a heartbeat.
The people that support Obama accuse Romney of flip flopping while ignoring the fact that Obama has flip flopped on just about every major issue since winning the Dem nomination. Can you say hypocrisy?
The fact is that Romney is clearly the most competent, cpable guy out there on either side oof the aisle and people like JP (moonbats) are scared of him. If Mccain picks Romney Romney will bring a ton of GOp support and fund raising ability to the table. Romney also locks up NH, NV, CO, and NM for Mccain in the fall.
The very last and greatest way in which Romney helps Mccain is that if Romney is Mccain's VP, Obama can kiss Michigan goodbye this fall. How the hell does Obama win the presidency without Michigan?
J.P. I totally disagree with you, so much rambling about nothing. I can't believe such folks live in this great country of ours, incredibly inacurate, rediculious and judgemental. I totally agree with Jayla, if the Republican party wants to win... MacCain has to choose Mitt Romney, plain and simple.
It's obvious that Romney would put MI and NH in the Mccain column this fall but there's talk that he might even put MA in the McCain column.
I highly doubt this will happen but it would be the end of Obama if it did.
If the People's Republic of MA is called for McCain early on election night when other voters are still going to the polls in other states it might sway them and Obama would lose big time.
As a previous poster said I don't see how Obama can win without Michigan. If he loses Michigan he'd probably have to carry FL, OH and VA and that is not very likely to happen.
Oh well any type of Mccain victory, even with Romney on the ticket will be an empty win for true conservatives. We all know that Romney is the best out these to lead this nation. There is always the possibility that Mccain gets ill or god forbid...............and then VP Romney steps up to the plate.
I'm conservative and I love Romney, so do all the rest of the conservatives. Romney won more conservative votes than McCain in the primaries.
J.P. It is so obvious from your posting that you are nothing but a religious bigot... period! You'd rather risk our country to some radical left wing idiot schmuck all because of your religious bigotry. That's all it is plain and simple... Bigotry! Why don't you and all the other dinosaurs out there with similiar views do our country, that was based and founded on religous freedoms not just what you dinosaurs think is right, a tremdous favor by stumbling your way into the nearest tar pit you can find. Or are you too much of a dumb idiot schmuck to even do that?
I'm a Christian (of Jewish descent no less), a homeschool mom, very conservative, and I have absolutely no problem with Mitt Romney. He was always my first choice for prez and I'd be thrilled to see him on the McCain ticket. He would give conservatives, including fellow Christians I know, a reason to ENTHUSIASTICALLY pull the lever for McCain...right now we're not exactly falling all over ourselves with praise for McCain. Romney brings economic and business expertise, success in both foreign and domestic endeavors from capital adventures to the Olympics, and he's got a terrific presence and moral character that we love. Christians who believe that only evangelical Christians can hold high office are really reaching...the Bible teaches no such thing. A man is not wicked simply because he doesn't believe and worship as we do...even of Jesus it was said 'Can anything good come from Nazareth?'. Is Mitt Romney so repulsive and out of God's reach? I was really pained by Huckabee's snarky, passive-aggressive weedling during the primaries, I feel he gave Christianity a black eye by being so manipulative and bigoted toward Romney. He's still at it, too, with this supposed evangelical animus toward Mormons....what a self-serving canard that is. James Dobson, Jerry Falwell, Jay Sekulow, Rick Santorum, and many other well regarded Christian leaders were perfectly willing to support Romney because they put the welfare of our country ahead of religious favoritism...bigotry, pure and simple, and it is a great way to end up with Obama, a Marxist, for president. And an out-of-control liberal Congress and Senate on top of that would set this country back to such a low point that even Woodrow Wilson would cock an eyebrow! We need morality, intelligence, strength of character, and expertise in areas that are crucial to a healthy future for our country--energy, security, economy, the war on terrorism. Romney fits the bill, he's got his priorities straight where McCain makes us feel queasy. My fellow Christians, I say with all love--grow up and stop trying to recreate heaven on Earth, until Jesus returns that ain't gonna happen. Do what is right for us in the meantime.
I rather see a smart and an intelligent Mormon like Mitt Romney as Mccains VP than some moron all he does is licking Mccains feet.#2 JP evangelicals are not f...stupid like you so don't use religion to try and manipulate others.
Big "Amen" to a smart Jewish man!!
M & M Ticket for 08'
I grew up Southern Baptist .The whole family was very involved.,However, as a mature adult I found, too many questions unanswered. Too much bigotry ,with .arrogance and double standards for my preference. I investigated the Mormon church that I, out of ignorance used to mock, like the guy in the comment above. In this church I was surprised to meet lots of converted Baptist preachers, catholic priests,Jews,etc..This church was sooo organized compared to what I was used to.The members are eager to tithe, they realize the benefits and proper intent. There is no paid clergy, the members basically take turns holding positions of supervision.Compared to so many churches in the US now, this church is financially solvent.!.Frankly, A Mormon VP, would be a huge Perk for US. ,wouHUGEhugePERKperk!1!!!!!forUStheU>S>UniStates
Mitt Romney is a "must" for the VP spot. I am a conservative Christian evangelical and I do not hold Romney's Mormon faith against him. Not ALL evangelicals are against him, and I know when they go to the polls they would vote if it is Mitt. I can't imagine any coservative staying home and allowing Obama to be "Commander in Chief" of our great country. A lot of Huck supporters are the loudest critics of Romeny. There is no one else who is being considered who would be as good as Mitt. He is articiulate, honest, intelligent, doesn't have to stop and think about the answers he gives. He is good on the economy. There are too many other qualifications which are too many to mention. He has a wonderful wife and family. It will be a great disappointment if McCain doesn't pick Romney.
It is so nice to see that Mitt Romney is still supported by so many. I was afraid after he left the race that he had been forgotten! He would make an excellent VP, just like he would have made a great president. Its nice to have someone I can trust for once...
The recent threat by the "Huck-n-Hack" team to use fear tactics warning an evangelical drop-off with a McCain/Romney ticket are as misrepresentative as they were in the Primary. I believe that a majority of evangelicals are growing tired of being portrayed with bigotry and intolerance.
In 2002, Mitt Romney led the Winter Olympics out of scandal and debt to success and surplus revenue. And, I understand that he plans to attend the Summer Olympics in China. What better time for McCain to announce Romney as his Vice Presidential choice. Media will push for interviews that, if granted, Romney will probably acknowledge the nod and, with grace, turn the focus back to the importance of the Games that he knows all too well. It would be a correlating announcement with worldwide interest and a very appropriate answer to Obama's tour.
Many of the comments here talk about this religion and that religion and it goes directly against the constitution with regards to separation of church and state. If most of you base your votes because of religion then you are all ignorant. Mitt is a very sharp business man and any business he has been associated with has thrived. Joe is a statesman and has shown to be able to cross party lines to get things done. We need progress in Washington not religious bickering. McCain is a liberal not a conservative. His meeting with the Rothschild family should tell us whose interest he will be looking out for. We as Americans need to take our country back from the power broker elite and put it back into our hands. Maybe even get rid of the Federal Reserve like JFK wanted to do. We know that ending!
Put Romney on the ticket and I will vote for McCain and encourage everybody I know to do so.
Kourtney,Mitt will never be forgotten! I had a chance here in Iowa, on his campaign, to drive Mitt around Southwest Iowa, and let me tell you that he is the most politest, well mannered, best politician out there. Mitt would make a terrific VP for McCain. He is very up on our energy needs,as well as how to correct our troubled economy. McCain/Mitt 08!
