Abortion foe to address Democratic convention
While Barack Obama strongly supports abortion rights, his nominating convention will reach out to abortion opponents with a featured speaker and its party platform.
Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, who opposes abortion rights and gave Obama a key endorsement, is scheduled to speak on Tuesday, Aug. 25, the Associated Press is reporting.
Casey's father was snubbed by then-Democratic nominee Bill Clinton and refused a speaking spot in the 1992 Democratic convention, starting a series of political skirmishes between the two political clans.
Abortion foes are also hailing the proposed platform plank on abortion. The Washington Post reports that they are happy that it more explicitly offers support for women who decide to have babies, with pledges to ensure access to adoptions, prenatal and postnatal care, and monetary help for expectant mothers.
But the platform also has somewhat stronger language for abortion rights advocates. "The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman's right to choose a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay, and we oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right," it says. Previously, the plank has said abortion should be safe, legal, and "rare."

Wait a minute - "Abortion foe"?!?
Is that what we're now calling people who oppose abortion rights? If so, then Barack Obama should be referred to as an "Abortion Proponent" in the opening line. I get it - pro=good, anti=bad - but "foe" pushes the boundaries from biased word choice into laughable propaganda.
Then again, you got me to read the story and post for the first time, so maybe that was the idea all along. If so, how sad.
What in God's name is the purpose of an anti-abotiont Senator addresses the Democratic Party convention? That's like Osama addressing the Jewish parliment. The Democrats are so for abortion that this is hypocritical. Shame on Obama. Why can't the man be honest ONE time in his life.
I am a Liberal and agree that abortion should be legal, but I also think it should be used as a last resort. A much more frank and open discussion about sexuality needs to be presented to youth today. All types of birth control possible should be spoken of honestly. Women of all ideologies should look at pictures of aborted fetuses on line to see what abortion does in the real world. If an individual female is able to do this to their own offspring, then it is indicative of a severe lack of self love. In a Darwinian sense, abortions are performing a function: people who are willing to kill their own children thankfully do not pass this trait along because they execute all of their descendants! We in the USA need to begin a dialogue with those of opposite worldviews. We cannot remain a cogent nation with these 50-50 electorate splits. Liberals should re-examine thier advocation of abortion as if it were some kind of index of freedom: it is a disgusting procedure and quite violent to those most defensless among us! The Conservatives similarly should back down on some of the issues with which they disagree: I think the legalization of marijuana would be a good place to start in this regard. It is a drain on the economy and supports warlords in Mexico and elsewhere. We Americans need to find a middle ground and both sides need to give and take.
It is so great to see a Senator speak out against abortion and oppose the widely held Democratic belief in the right to chose. I say chose what? To chose to kill an innocent human being? Abortion is intrinsically evil and the practice should be unthinkable. Everyone deserves to have their birthday. The right to life is so much more than an issue – it is the most basic part of human existence and without this basic right all the other issues we hear about such as healthcare, the economy immigration etc. just don’t matter.
Choose Life!
Its about time the Democratic party embraced some freedom of thought on a difficult issue. It is horrible that we send anyone who has differing moral views on abortion to join the pro corporate greed, pro war of aggression, republican party when their christian views are so much closer to traditional American views of fairness, justice, and the Democratic party than they are to the near facism of the Republican corporatism

Bob Casey really isn't pro-life. He supports the Plan B Morning After Pill and taxpayer funding for abortions overseas. He's only "pro-life" because he's "Catholic". The Democrat party is pro-death on abortion no matter who he has speak!
I still can't stand Bill Clinton for what he did to Bob Casey Sr., the greatest governor the state of Pennsylvania ever had. I have newfound respect for Obama now. It is nice that he is open to hearing from people who differ with him.
It appears that those who just KNOW they speak for God are out here already.

Okay, nasties, stay out of my womb and out of the wombs of those who are unable to protect themselves. It's my own (our own) business, my (our) doctors' business and the business of God Himself. It is not your business and He surely did not ask you to speak for Him, particularly since you obviously weren't paying attention in your biology class even when He offered you the opportunity to get an education.
To all you naysayers out there, just ask yourselves how far has 28 years of rubber stamping the GOP helped save babies lives....the answer is Nada. Abortion is up and economic hardship is the number one reason women give for having the procedure. To make matters worse, the GOP McCain supports a mandate for men to have Viagra provisions, while women are not guaranteed birth control. Fact is Bush is fighting contraceptive efforts...resulting in more unwanted pregnancy=abortions. I'm through. Learn to ask yourself the importance of Maya Angelou's poetic reflection: I stand outside the abortion clinic, no real choices. As a life long Christian and republican I'm so tired of this straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel approach the judgemental right wing has championed that I'm through! Obama 08 will save many more unborn lives!

"Pro-Choice", "Abortion Proponent", "Supporter of Women's Right to Choose"... call it what you like but it's still killing a baby. These decoy names were invented to hide selfish behavior- sex outside of marriage.
A solution:
1. All adults age 18 and over register "pro-choice" or "anti-abortion."
2. Those women that select pro-choice can have the abortions they choose/need. Those that registered otherwise cannot except in dire medical emergencies (i.e., the baby may die. Note that the well-being of the mother is immaterial in this).
3. Those babies born to pro-choice parents that cannot or do not want to raise them, are immediately given to an adult who was against abortion to be raised until the age of 18.
Simple.
These comments clearly show why abortion should be left only to the woman involved. They don't need these nut jobs telling them what to do.

The stand for or against abortion is an indicator of whether a candidate follows the word of God or just talks about it.

Fear is the driving force behind abortion and it usually is not the mother's choice, but the pressure of a spouse or other family member. The fears expected will disappear when the child is kept because God said to. The child will be a great blessing to you, regardless of the circumstances. I am a witness.
