Cheney will speak at GOP gathering
Vice President Dick Cheney is showing up at the Republican National Convention after all.
His office announced today that Cheney is scheduled to speak on the convention's first night on Sept. 1, along with President Bush.
Cheney is even more unpopular than Bush in public polling, and when his spokeswoman said earlier in the week that his schedule for September hadn't been firmed up, speculation swirled that Cheney would take a pass on the convention in St. Paul.
But in a statement, the White House said, "The vice president looks forward to participating in the Republican National Convention and continuing to work for the election of Sen. McCain and other Republican candidates in the coming months."
