Democrats: Republican V.P. more of the same
As if John McCain needed more advice on who to pick as his running mate, a new website provides some unwelcome counsel.
The Democratic National Committee today launched a website that, in its words, "illustrates the most important thing the voters need to know about each of John McCain's potential vice presidential picks: no matter who he chooses, any ticket with John McCain on it means more of the same. As McCain himself said in 2001, 'with a little more luck' he'd have asked Dick Cheney to be his vice president."
The website lists seven of the most talked-about contenders, and their ties to Cheney, the powerful but unpopular No. 2 to President Bush.
For former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, for instance, the site says he "changed his positions on immigration and Social Security to match Bush and Cheney's."
Also bashed on the site are Governors Charlie Crist of Florida and Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, Senator John Thune of South Dakota, Representative Eric Cantor of Virginia, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, and Federal Express CEO Fred Smith.
UPDATE: Romney dismissed the website's attempt to say the GOP ticket would be exactly the same as Bush-Cheney.
"Just because we’re Republican doesn’t mean we see all issues the same way and suggesting we’re all like Dick Cheney or all like George Bush is a nice effort on their part, but I frankly don’t think it will fly, he said on CNN this afternoon.
Cheney, himself, may not show up at the GOP convention to see McCain and whoever he selects get nominated. Cheney press secretary Megan Mitchell left the question open today, saying Cheney's schedule has not been set for September, when the convention happens in St. Paul, Minn., the Associated Press reported.

"Cantor Voted With Republicans 92.5% Of The Time In 110th Congress. According to the Washington Post Voting database, Rep. Eric Cantor has voted with the majority of his Republican colleagues 92.5% of the time during the current Congress."
Um... big surprise, he's a REPUBLICAN! Seriously, who are they trying to persuade here? If their argument is "don't vote for the Republican because he votes Republican" then they're wasting their time.
Opinions are just that Opinions! This is not news!
Hahahahahaha ...... sweet !
I am registered Democrat and I want the DNC actual leaders to differentiate between a proactive tactic and a premeditated calumny. McCain is a good person and Democrats should win with a better candidate.
More of the same old same old Attack Dog Democratic leadership. Hey Obama - whatever happened to your PROMISE that this year would be different in regards to presidential elections?
Whatever happened to your PROMISE that we would talk about the ISSUES and not personality ATTACKS?
Obama - you are such a FAKE !! You are the SAME OLD SAME OLD style politician we have had to put up with for decades. There is NOTHING new and "refereshing" about you.
Shame on you Obama. Shame on you!
Shame on you McBush. Shame on you who support an extension of the Bush administration.
McCain the so-called maverick has been gelded by the neocons. Karl Rove gutter tactics and dog-whistle racism, a VP hand-picked by Cheney - can anyone really imagine that McSame offers a change for the better?
I know who the Democrat will pick as Obamas VP and their are many of them.First up in the list is Ahmardinejad(Iran),Ghadaffi(Libya),Assad(Syria),Musharraf(Egypt) and host of other foreigners.
Seriously some people are deluded. Comment no 5. It is ok for McCain to issue NEGATIVE ads against OBAMA ( This, if you check the records, has been paid for by the Mc Cain group.) Yet The Democratic commiteee (NOT paid for by Obama) cannot do the same.? Certain Republicans cry foul when their own tactics are used against them! To me, it smells like a school yard bully with no intelligence.
Republicans took the gloves off in 2004 with their negative tactics, so they have no right to complaign now. Obama has not authorised any direct negative attack against McSame. The same cannot be said about the McSame group.
Obama or McCain-who is the lesser of two evils? Undoubtedly that’s the question being posted for November 2008 election. I do not see Obama doing anything new either except getting away with Anti-American and racist comments. NO I’M NOT RACIST! I am a Hispanic woman and I dislike racism regardless of the color it comes from.
What is with Obama not holding his hand to the American flag or wearing it on his lapel but he does enjoy visiting with Anti-American foreign leaders?
McCain is not a great candidate but Obama is worse.
