Group warns against 'Swift Boat' attacks
A new Democratic-leaning group is warning Republican-leaning advocacy groups to stay away from unfair attacks -- and its putting its money where its mouth is.
Accountable America says it will offer a $100,000 reward to "those providing information that leads to the conviction or judgment against a conservative or business-related organization that violates" campaign finance laws.
It is an effort to stop efforts against presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama akin to Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, which in the 2004 presidential race questioned Senator John F. Kerry's record during the Vietnam War.
The group says it will "shine a spotlight on Republican donors who have contributed to such efforts in past election cycles" through television ads, mailings, phone calls, and its website. Next week, the organization plans to send a mailing warning nearly 10,000 Republican donors.
