On the first night of the Democratic convention, at least, Republican John McCain will have a forum from which to compete for attention.
NBC announced today that he will get a gig on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" next Monday night. McCain will share the show with Dara Torres, the silver medal-winning swimmer who made waves in the Olympics because she's 41 years old.
McCain has been a frequent guest on comedy shows, trying to soften an image of having a temper, and seeking to appeal to younger voters.
