Kerry, Romney headed to Democratic convention

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor August 19, 2008 05:21 PM

Two big names in Massachusetts politics -- Senator John F. Kerry and former Governor Mitt Romney -- will be speaking in conjunction with the Democratic National Convention next week.

Kerry, however, is part of the official program. Organizers said today that the 2004 Democratic nominee will talk Wednesday night, when the theme is "Securing America's Future." Senator Jack Reed of Rhode Island is also scheduled that night, the Associated Press reports.

Romney, who is believed to be under consideration by presumptive Republican nominee John McCain as his running mate, is not on the official list. Still, he is set to speak Tuesday at a counter-rally organized by Republicans near the Pepsi Center in downtown Denver, where Democrats will be gathered to hear, among others, Hillary Clinton, the AP says.

  1. Twenty five or so years as a U.S Senator and this guy has never sponsored a bill that became a law. What's he known for? What's he done that's of any particular note? This guy is a do-nothing senator, but amazingly gets re-elected year after year. What lemmings we have in this state.

  1. Romney would bring balance to the ticket. This combination would work great!! "McCain * Romney "08!! :)

"MITT ROMNEY IS THE BEST QUALIFIED CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT. His record of accomplishments is sensational. Harvard Law and MBA cum laude simultaneously, Baker Scholar, created Staples, Timberland, Dominoes Pizza and many more. Was called in to turn Massachusetts into a thriving state and did so working without pay. Begged to save the failing Salt Lakes Olympics and did so brilliantly again refusing compensation. A married man with fine children and spotless record of integrity. He would make a great V.P. for McCain. ... The two great issues that face America today are Foreign policy and Security and the economy. The combination of McCain Romney is irresistable."

  1. Mitt Romney will obviously be the best speaker at the Democratic National Convention. After watching his exchange with Daschle last Sunday on experience verses judgement, I'm convinced that no intelligent thinking or speaking will be going on by democrats inside the convention. Democrats actually feel that good judgement happens without experience. Scary! We're in big trouble (remember that sick feeling the moment they announced Bill Clinton won in '92) if more liberal non-thinkers turn out to the polls in November than in-the-know republicans. Let's just hope that Obama picks Biden as his running mate and McCain picks Romney. That will be the quickest end to the democrats hopes for the White House. No one cares about Biden and Romney will chew him up in the first debate. Biden is arrogant and hot headed. It will be his undoing, and all the better!

  1. Romney is smarter than Obama and McCain combined. Romney represents McCain better than McCain does. But, McCain will choose Pawlenty. America needs to suffer economic devastation before it will turn to a Mormon...apparently...

  1. Even Bush recognized in 2004 that Kerry passed bills: When Bush said Kerry "passed five" bills, he was counting five bills Kerry authored that passed the Senate, the House, were signed by the president, and became law.

That's technically accurate but omits six other pieces of Kerry legislation that have become law. (See Factcheck.org)

    that makes 11 bills passed.

  1. What's lame? It's true. Communist accused our American Troops of terrorizing innocent women and children in the dark of night. He referring to our soldiers in Iraq.

Kerry is part of that Elitist, Liberal, Global Warming, Kool-Aid drinking, Lear Jet Owning, Socialist, America hating crowd. Why don’t these folks buy an island somewhere (preferably outside the USA) and let us return to a Capitalist society and once again grow to be the strongest and best nation on God’s whole planet?

  1. Saw the junior senator twice today and each time he walked right by me, not once shaking the hand that was extended. You can say he was busy or focused on his speech, but I say he (and the rest of the senators) are elitist snobs!

  1. Does any body want to hear from Kerry again? He had his chance five years ago to defeat Bush, and bungled it, but is just a moonbat lib unable to defeat anyone or pass laws against the trunbles of the USA is facing. Please go away Kerry, GO MCCAIN.

  1. There is hope for the Republican Party if Romney is on the ticket. It is crystal clear why we need someone like him is to quide this country economically to the right direction.Romneys resume speaks volume considering the mortgage crisis that hit us like a lightning rod.As an independent I look for a know how and experience leader someone that has been there and done that.I don't like nice speeches by know nothing candidates.

  1. "Romney is a fake and everyone who has half a brain knows it."

A fake what -- exactly? What is he faking? Intelligence? integrity? good cheer? dignity? respectability? civility? He projects all of these traits. Do you really think he's faking them...that in his personal life he's actually none of the above? This strains credulity to say the least.

  1. Mitt Romney is speaking at the GOP convention officially now, on the same day as the VP speech day... Mitt would be an awesome addition to a McCain ticket.

You'd have McCain as a great commander-in-cheif with his extensive foreign policy and federal experience (not to mention a POW war hero), and Mitt Romney using his hugely successful economic experience of turning things around with the economic issues.

I'm defininitely voting for McCain if Romney is picked up as VP.

  1. QUESTIONS

READERS, THINK ABOUT THESE QUESTIONS SERIOUSLY FROM THE HEART!

    1. WHAT WAS THE DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION LIKE PRIOR TO THE LAST ELECTION?

    2. DID IT HAVE ALL THIS DRAMA?

    3. WHY IS IT BEING SAID THAT THE OBAMA FAMILY IS AUDITIONING FOR THE WHITE HOUSE?

    4. WHY IS IT BEING SAID THAT AMERICANS KNOW VERY LITTLE ABOUT THE OBAMA FAMILY?

    5. DO YOU RECALL AN ATTEMPT BEING MADE ON CANDIDATES LIVES DURING THE PREVIOUS ELECTION?

    6. DO THE CLINTONS OWN THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY?

    7. WHY DOES SHE AND HER HUSBAND HAVE TO SPEAK AT THE CONVENTION?

    8. WHEN A CANDIDATE HAS BEEN NOMINATED ACCORDING TO THE DEMOCRATIC CONSTITUTION, WHY IS THE DRAMA CONTINUING?

    9. DO YOU THINK IF MRS. CLINTON HAD BEEN THE NOMINEE, THERE WOULD BE ALL THIS DRAMA?

    10. LISTEN TO SOME OF THE REPORTERS CAREFULLY, ARE SOME OF THEM RACISTS?

    11. MRS. CLINTON AND HER HUSBAND'S COMMENTS ARE SOMETIMES NEGATIVE. WHY IS IT THAT THE MEDIA DOESN'T RIP THEM TO PIECES LIKE COMMENTS MADE BY THE OBAMAS AND TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT?

    12. I HAVE SEEN MRS. CLINTON DRANK BEER WITH SOME BEER BIBBERS DURING HER CAMPAIGN, WAS THIS APPROPRIATE?

    13. IS THE CLINTONS GETTING ALL THIS ATTENTION BECAUSE THEY ARE WHITE?

    14. IF BARACK OBAMA WAS WHITE, WHAT THEN?

LET'S BE FAIR, HE IS A HUMAN BEING WITH FEELINGS JUST LIKE MRS. CLINTON.

TRUST ME, SHE IS SMILING DEEP DOWN WITH ALL THE ATTENTION SHE IS GETTING AND ALL THAT IS BEING SAID.
