Lieberman: 'Clear choice' for voters
Senator Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, eight years ago the Democratic nominee for vice president, has clearly left the reservation.
These days, he's attached to the hip of friend and presumptive Republican nominee John McCain -- and saying unkind things about his putative party's nominee, Barack Obama
Introducing McCain at a campaign event today in York, Pa., Lieberman left no uncertainty about what he believes about Obama's readiness to be commander-in-chief.
"I think it’s 84 days from now that the people of America are going to choose their next president. And it’s a big choice, because we know these are tough times at home economically, and dangerous times in the world. And in my opinion, the choice could not be more clear; between one candidate, John McCain, who has experience and has been tested in war and tried in peace, and another candidate that has not. Between one candidate, John McCain, who has always put his country first, worked across party lines to get things done, and one candidate that has not. Between one candidate that’s a talker and one candidate who’s the leader America needs as our next president," Lieberman said.
"You never know -- we never know what crisis will occur in the four years of his watch; we’ve just seen over the last few days, as the Russians invaded a sovereign nation, Georgia. And watch the response of this man, John McCain, to that crisis: right, strong, clear, principled. The kind of president we need in the White House over the next four years, to protect our country, our security, and our freedom …”
Lieberman now calls himself an "independent Democrat" -- with the emphasis on the first rather than the second. After losing the Democratic primary in 2006 to Ned Lamont because of his pro-Iraq war stand, he ran as an independent that November and defeated Lamont for a fourth term with strong support from Republicans and independents.

Joe would be a great choice---a good strong person for v.p.
Lieberman seems to be vying for the chance to become the next Vice President. His switch over from the Democratic Party a few years ago suggests to me this has been a well thought-out, methodical plan by him--flying under the radar until he sees a chance to be sought out for the position.
Clever, calculated response by Mr Lieberman. I'd like to see him on the ballot in Nov.
I would love to see Lieberman on the ticket. What a combination of strength and experience. Both of them are men of conviction.
I hope he does pick lieberman. He is a proven loser
Senator Lieberman would be an excellent choice for VP. I respect him and would gladly vote for him.
Not in this lifetime...
I am emphasizing independent this time as well as supporting McCain so I think would be really happy with a John and Joe ticket.
Why does Israel get a senator and South Korea does not?
Joe Lieberman is a lunatic who wants eternal war with anyone and everyone who objects to U.S./Israeli hegemony over the Middle East.
Throughout history and I mean real history great leaders and great men stem from when theres conflict worldwide. We hardly hear of great men during boring I mean peace times.I don't call myself a Christian as many people profess to be but I read the Word of God because I want to know why there was so much wars and conflicts during the Old Testament times especially between Gods peole the Israelites and their enemies.I was very humble after reading through most books when I discovered that God Almighty himself actually instructed Israel in many occasion to prepared for war with their enemies and that he God will fight for Israel. The main reason God Almighty instructed Israel or his people(Righteous)to war against their enemies is to show the bad guys that their is a greater power in heaven than their worldly physical and material power couple with their hate of Gods people. It is an ongoing struggle between good and bad as it is now continuing in our days.So the lesson in our time is God doesn't fool around with the bad guys.
I've thought all along that Joe Lieberman should run with John McCain. Hope Home McCain makes the right choice.
Lieberman is a GOP sell out! May 23, 2008 no one can put it better than you Joe!!!
By Joe Conason:
Despite his boundless pretensions, Sen. Joe Lieberman is not and has never been a font of foreign policy wisdom. His opinions derive as much from expedience and vanity as any consistent worldview. He will say whatever serves his ambitions at a given moment.
This lieberman is fake! and a sell out!
Running against antiwar Democrat Ned Lamont almost two years ago, for instance, he promised Connecticut voters that we were on the cusp of victory in Iraq. "I am confident that the situation is improving enough on the ground that by the end of this year, we will begin to draw down significant numbers of American troops," he said in October 2006, "and by the end of the next year more than half of the troops who are there now will be home." Within weeks after winning that election, of course, Lieberman was joining with Sen. John McCain, his friend and ideological ally, in support of sending 30,000 additional American troops to Iraq — and bringing exactly none home. why does Mcain sorround himself with loosers?
Lieberman must have many liberal republicans in his district . He well knows experience is unnecessary . when you can buy the best minds in the country, who can mke the hard decissions..
It must be the year when he sits safely in his seat in congress or he wouldn't dare to align himself with McCain . McCain's mole in the democratic party.
I totally agree with Senator Lieberman's assessment of the two candidates. The Democratic Party is so rotten that anybody with integrity should leave it. Instead of struggling with the party, the Clintons should just leave and strike it out on their own.
to mk:
Sure, the republican party is just oozzing with integrity. Look no further than our president. He's a man of intergrity (sarcasm)
yes, lieberman, "mr conviction". just like the conviction to "help elect a Democratic president in 2008" he claimed in 2006 during his fight for reelection.
as an Obama supporter, i long for the day when i hear old man mccain announce lieberman as his vp pick. let's see: pro-choice, fiscal liberal, say-anything-to-get-elected (like mccain) senator from a northeastern state would really please the republican base. just more evidence that mccain's campaign is only as popular as the media wants it to be.

I didn't suggest the Clintons to join the Republicans. I said leave the Dems and be independent, like Lieberman. The DNC is now overwhelmed by losers. The Dems have picked yet another loser to be the candidate. This party has no future. They renounced the only winner they've had in decades. With 18 million voters behind her, Hillary Clinton should start a new party now and get ready for the next election.
I am a conservative pro-lifer but could easily vote for a McCain-Lieberman ticket. This country needs leaders not folks that are going to learn on the job.
I'm a conservative pro-choice person who would love to see a Lieberman-McCain ticket. Tempered experience, sounds kinda catchy doen't it.
John and Joe, I like it.
Experience is what we need but not the wrong kind of experience. McCain keeps saying that he knows how to win wars…well, what war did he win? Vietnam? As far as I know, he has never made a decision that led the US to win a war. As for Lieberman, well, he is not as independent when it comes to Israel. What concerns me the most is that even after 7 plus years of Republicans leadership people somehow still think they are better at running this country. Are we not still fighting a war they promised was going to last about 6 months? Is the economy not in the toilet even after all those rebates? Republican Senators and Congressmen have been convicted of corruption and immoral behavior. You can go on and on but yet somehow they are a "logical" choice to keep leading the nation. Go figure.
