McCain ad: Obama bad for families
John McCain unveiled a new TV ad today that again tries to paint Democratic rival Barack Obama as an out-of-touch celebrity, but also asserts that he would be bad for American families.
"Is the biggest celebrity in the world ready to help your family?" the announcer asks as images appear of Obama addressing and greeting huge crowds chanting, "Obama, Obama."
"The real Obama promises higher taxes, more government spending. So, fewer jobs," the announcer continues.
Then, as images of wind turbines and McCain appear, the announcer concludes "Renewable energy to transform our economy, create jobs and energy independence, that's John McCain."
McCain's campaign cites Obama's proposal to let some of President Bush's tax cuts lapse, to raise capital gains taxes, and to at least consider increasing Social Security payroll taxes.
But the ad does not acknowledge that the vast majority of American families would not be affected by those proposals, which would largely target the wealthy.
McCain plans to reinforce the point during a visit today to an Ohio furniture plant.
"America has the second highest business tax rate in the entire world," he plans to say, according to prepared remarks issued by his campaign. "It is any wonder that jobs are moving overseas when we are taxing them out of the country? Unfortunately Senator Obama's plans would raise taxes on businesses even more. He has promised tax increases on income, tax increases on investment, tax increases on small businesses. This is exactly the wrong strategy. Raising taxes in a bad economy is about the worst thing you could do because it will kill even more jobs when what we need are policies that create jobs."
UPDATE: Obama spokesman Bill Burton responded to the ad, “Is the biggest proponent of George Bush’s tired, failed policies ready to bring about change? Another day brings another dishonest attack from John McCain. While Senator McCain knows that Senator Obama has proposed cutting taxes for 95% of American families, what he’s not telling us is that he wants to give $4 billion in tax breaks to the oil companies, continue giving tax breaks to corporations that ship our job overseas, and provide no direct tax relief for more than 100 million middle-class families. It’s time to retire these old policies and bring new energy to America.”

If the networks had any integrity they would protect the First Amendment by refusing to run this false information.
Yes, because what is good for America is a man who cheats on his wife, and dumps her for a billionaire twenty years his junior.
Now THERE is family values.
McCain is the biggest danger there is to working people and those in the military. Look at his real congressional record and then you'll know why we don't need another four years of Bush Policies.

Another misleading ad by McCain.. Those taxes aren't aimed at the families the ad targets.
McCain is counting on the average American to continued to be bamboozled by lies and half-truths. Unfortunately, there are many voters with an inabillity to see through the lies and many more voters willing to believe the lies.
Nor does the ad mention that proposals to adjust taxes on America's most wealthy are unavoidable if the country is to deal with the astronomical deficit left by over by the Iraq war invasion and occupation, or , that its the "wealthy" who are McCain's only solid base of voters.
Unfortunately democrats consider anyone with a job wealthy.
Bad for families? that is just absurd. McCain is sounding more and more like Bush every day. All Obama talks about is how much everyone has suffered under the republican party's misguidance and he is right. Barrack Obama will do so much to help struggling poor and middle class families in these impossible economic times, McCain is really out of touch and desperate here with inaccurate and dishonest spin like this. Attacking someone's strengths and beliefs just for the sake of doing so doesn't make you right McCain. I believe every word Obama says when he talks about how Americans have had to struggle to survive under the dictatorship and corruption of our current White House and how badly this needs to change.
The truth is, Obama's proposals will affect the vast majority of Americans. If you make more than $30,000 per year, you are considered "wealthy" and will be affected by his proposals. Do the reasearch people, don't let the liberal-biased media do all the thinking for you.
John Mccain is reaching. I find his ads repulsive as all they are, are mud slinging. You want to attack someone, then attack them on their policies. He wants to say that Obama would be bad for families, well what about his stance of wanting to leave our troops in iraq for as long as it takes.
Last time I heard, McCain was a POW in Vietnam for 5 years so you would think he would be completely opposite but he would rather destroy families lives there by sending parents children to Iraq to fight a political and self serving war.
All McBush "has" is tearing down Obama with false inuendo and false accusations. Shame on him and shame on his "handlers" .
one attack ad after another, the bush campaign people mcain hired are really doing their thing
If this works, Americans are fools.
McCain is unfair! Higher taxes for the richer. Vote for republican if you make more then $250,000/year because then Obama is going to tax you. Are you making as much. He is just scare people: go to factcheck.com and find out how many of his adds where deliberately false. I thought he is different but he is the same as Bush and others.
Why does this have a much sleazier feel to it than Obama's ads?
Perhaps quoting John McCain in Obama's ad made the argument much cleaner.
I'm getting so sick and tired of McCain's negative campaigning. He should concentrate on his own policies rather than what's wrong with Obamas for a change.
So says the man who married for power and money. Phooey.
Now, just because the height difference between the two candidates is so different does not mean that one can hold the head of the other and swing violently. But today it seems the other candidate swung below the belt in hopes that they may get a KO.
If I had a choice of either candidate I would say to you and I am not alone, that one of each party is the way I would vote. If a Republican got the presidential seat I would ask that the VP's seat was given to the runner up OR vise-versa.
In every other competition if you get a chance to pick your team, and you don't get the player you want, it is not because you don't want them; it is because the other team picked them. At that point you pick the next best player.
You also may not agree with the views of the teammates you pick, but that is why you have a captain… Captain, president, leader, however you want to call it, there will always be someone to help keep the team on track. This voter's separation of government seems to always get us in trouble.
We as Americans really only want a solution to our problems, not more problems. Today's reports show that McCain has produced a short film (campaign attached ad) that shows Obama as a Megastar, right along side Britney Spears.
Mr. McCain if you want to know what makes an actor a star in Hollywood, just turn on your TV, because TV is what makes people a Megastar these days. And your small film (campaign attached ad) and all the media you buy just, makes you one of the PRODUCERS of this epic popularity and campaign. In Hollywood what McCain is doing is the same actors do all the time in show biz, we call it jealousy.
Can I tell you what I have determined in the last few months?
I was talking to a Republican the other day; it happens every once in a while. Anyway, after an hour of political talk we both came to the conclusion that I have been preaching for years and that was that the reason why Obama is so popular is that MAYBE it is the time and the place for the people of the US to start motivating themselves to make the difference. Now, for me this is easy to swallow, mainly because I have thought for the longest time that we (USA) have been walking around saying … where are we, what happened, why don't the politician's do what they say they will.
We are complaining instead of doing and then act confused when politicians pull a fast one. Politicians are all the same. This last few years Republicans are taking the fall, while the democrats fix things from the last time they messed up. But trust this cowboy when I say, Democrats will step up to stooping low sometime soon; it is just the political way.
The thing that both myself and my newfound Republican friend agree on is that maybe it is not about the politicians this year. More like how many Americans can we get to become active in their country this time around. And right now Obama leads in popularity which leads his voters to watch, react and act.
Is he ready to lead? Good question…might want to ask the millions of Obama followers.
"But the ad does not acknowledge that the vast majority of American families would not be affected by those proposals, which would largely target the wealthy."
Tax the wealthy, everyone suffers.
Taxing the wealthy means taxing business. Taxing business results in job cuts and higher prices for goods.
Poor, poor John... he wants the job soooooo bad.
this will all become fuel for Obama's fire when it comes time for the debates to begin. All of McSame's talk in the primary season about a respectful campaign will come back to haunt him.
America doesn't need another callous, cynical leader.
McCain married a rich trophy wife before his divorce was final and he is going to make claims to who is better for families?!?! How insulting to average Americans!
This cycle we're again victims of a consolidated, corporate-controlled national media system.
As long as a candidate has a message or plank favorable to big corporations, such as tax cuts or deregulation, the corporate media outlets will dress them up and saturate the airwaves and cables with them.
It doesn't matter if most--or 95% of what the person says is disproven, nonfactual, erroneous, misleading, or mendacious.
If you're for letting big media "regulate itself" and thereby control everything that is said in newspapers, over radio, on tv, and the internet, then you can get a prime time talking heads slot and play your tape over and over again until 51% of American voters are utterly brainwashed.
Curious spin from the candidate who left his first wife to wed the Anheuser-Busch heiress.
How can you say "But the ad does not acknowledge that the vast majority of American families would not be affected by those proposals, which would largely target the wealthy. "? Who do you think provides jobs for the rest of us? If the wealthy keep taking hits from the government, they can not continue to invest in growth opportunities thus causing fewer jobs. It's their money, and if the government would leave it alone they would constantly invest it causing more jobs. This has always been the case throughout history, yet so many americans are blinded by emotions and refuse to see the truth. I would prefer the wealthy invest their money so I can keep my job, but I was raised to be responsible for my own life and not rely on the government for hand outs. Guess I had bad parents.
McCain is a moron, and so is his entire presidential platform. Obama may not be perfect, but gawd, he is way better than McCain.
I used to respect Sen. McCain, but I am so very nauseated by his whining, gossipy, back-stabbing attacks on Sen. Obama, that he is now a vision of disgust every time I see him on TV.
Sen. Obama has been intelligent and respectful, but finally, he has had to answer McCain's attacks. Now, they'll whine about that!! One of the significant charges thrown at Sen. Obama is that he is "too intelligent" ... oh, God help us if we finally had an INTELLIGENT president!!
Hilarious...!!!
Each ad by the McCain campaign is more absurd. What next?
McCain needs to retire. He is too tired to lead.
When Rhee inserted the last paragraph, he revealed himself as just a run-of-the-mill lib who wants to get even with those "wealthy" Americans. I own a busness and have two employees who have been with us more than ten years. If Obama raises my taxes any higher, I'll be forced to lay off one of those people and downsize. Small businesses will do the same nationwide. In fact, Foon Rhee might want to think about that before the scribbler runs out and votes for Yobama. Newspapers and bloggers don't exactly exemplify stability in the media industry. Besides, media doesn't pay any taxes on advertising revenue... what would they know about it?
McCain represents 4 more years of Bush. America cannot afford him.
It's clear where the Globe stands. You can't just report the news. You've got to take a stab at McCain's ad at the end of the article.
The world may not be ready for Obama...
But we CAN'T afford 4 more years under McBush...
And the GOP's bankrupting civil...ethical...and financial policies...
Shudder the thought...
Foon Rhee wrote: "But the ad does not acknowledge that the vast majority of American families would not be affected by those proposals, which would largely target the wealthy."
The vast majority of American families would NOT be affected by Obama's proposals?!?!
Perhaps Foon Rhee can explain how a middle class married father of two would benefit if his boss were to make less money. How exactly does a sudden tax hike on his employer’s income, stock portfolio, and payroll increase the likelihood of receiving a raise?
Someone PLEASE tell the Crypt Keeper that HBO called and they need him back on set.
I think that making a commercial about Obama is a very childish thing for McCain to do. I don't think we need another childish President...
The Ad is disjointed and, in my opinion, poorly made. It doesn't stick to a consistent theme by showing us how McCain is good for families. The author's assertion that tax cuts which target the wealthy would not effect the "vast majority of American families" is a political belief. I doubt it could be supported with peer-reviewed economics research.
McCain is in full attack mode. Didn't he say he wasn't going to run "that type" of campaign? What next, Obama is bad for puppies?
Obama is bad for:
1. Anyone who works for "Corporate America". Remember his wife saying how evil Corporate America is and that we need to all work for the State instead? (sounds like Stalin)
2. Our pension plans and retirement dreams. Yes Obama, let's squeeze those big bad oil companies of their profits. Let's watch their stock price tank. Let's watch our 401k's and IRA's and pension plans bottom out as they are all tied to these companies.
3. Tire Gauge making companies. Sorry, our inventories just aren't big enough to keep up with demand for your energy policy. Try the Sweater making companies - I'm sure they have leftover bulky sweaters from President Carter's Energy Policy days.
4. Our Health. Yes Obama, let's squeeze those big bad pharmaceutical companies of their margins so they can no longer put money back into Research and Development for breakthrough drugs.
5. Our career ambitions. Sorry, we have to put off going to college or pursueing any other dream because WE HAVE TO WORK FOR THE STATE AND COMRADE MICHELLE OBAMA!!!
Why should McCain not do what has worked so well in the past. Mislead voters into thinking that if elected his opponent would raise their taxes, raise the unemployment rate and destroy the American family. It doesn't matter what you do after your elected. All that matters is getting elected. Republican spin doctors know that the average voter doesn't read past the first paragraph of any article and a large percentage of those don't even make it past the headline. Watch gas prices fall as the election gets closer.
Not to worry about any Obama policy; he'll change it soon!
John mccain is an idiot. Like Bush, McCain also pronounces nuclear as nu-culear. Maybe he needs to pass a session of hooked on phonics before he runs for president. Lets drill and give the oil companies more money john, I will sleep so well at night knowing that they are lining your pockets with money. Why doesnt this man just shut his hole retire in an old people's home?
Oh yeah McCain, tire pressure and tuneups does save cars on gas and for the amount of cars in the US, that is a significant amount of gas saved in a year. Dont believe me? Read your own freakin' government website.
More taxes? Only if you make over $200K. Nice to see McCain is staying honest. Yes, there are families that might have to settle for coach class going to europe as a result of Obama getting elected.
"Political Inteligence" - isn't that an oxymoron?
why does mccain continue to be so misleading?
obama proposes tax breaks to the middle class.
obama wants to tax the wealthy. 95% of small businesses do not fall into this bracket.
end of story.
Bad for famailies? More healthcare, more jobs, less war, close tax loopholes for the rich, energy independence, cleaner environment. Wow... that's terrible for families... give me more of what the republicans did for us... less jobs, less healthcare, more war, higher energy costs (etc).
"Yesterday, Senator John McCain called on Senator Barack Obama and Speaker Nancy Pelosi to call Congress back into session to deal with the energy crisis. The misguided Presidential candidate said, "Congress should come back into session, and I'm willing to come off the campaign trail."
'What Senator McCain seems to have forgotten is that he has missed every single significant energy vote of the last two years,' LCV President Gene Karpinski said. “In December 2007, his was the single vote that prevented the Senate from transferring billions of dollars in tax subsidies from the oil industry to clean, renewable energy sources. It’s nice that after nearly two years of playing "hookey from his responsibilities in the Senate, John McCain has finally promised to cast a vote instead of casting about for votes.'
The last vote John McCain cast on a major energy proposal was on August 1, 2006. Senator McCain has missed all 15 of the following significant energy votes since that day."--League of Conservation Voters
McCain the disgraceful wanna be war hero. Finished 5th from the bottom of his Navy class, I think it was 894 out of 899, and was shot down. Anyways, this is a man who called is wife the c-word, which was after he left his ailing wife who stood by him through thick and thin.
It is a disgrace that McCain continually puts down Obama, who is a true family man. A man that spent Valentine's Day with his wife, a man who has obviously raised tremendous kids, and a man that puts his family first.
Why can't McCain just run on the issues? Probably because he has no policy platform to run on, having been joined at the hip with Bush's foreign, economic, and domestic policy over the last so many years. He has Rove blood in his campaign, Steve Schmidt, who is Rove's protege and I'm sure receiving advice from Rove on how to blind and brainwash the American public; especially the undecided voters.
All I can say is whoever votes for Mr. No Economic Experience, and a war monger, and hothead, then you'll reap what you sew.
From the article
"But the ad does not acknowledge that the vast majority of American families would not be affected by those proposals, which would largely target the wealthy."
Are you an idiot? Seriously, I'm just wondering. You clearly have no business reporting news or political opinions.
The "vast majority" of American families that you claim will be unaffected by Obama's tax hike on the wealthy, work for American small businesses. Guess what happens when the wealthy/small business owners' taxes increase once Obama wins? The "vast majority" gets laid off as the wealthy attempt to cut costs under Obama's Socialist "redistribuition" of the wealth.
I'm not sure what you consider "affected", but I believe losing your job would fall under that definition.
Get a clue.
This synopsis that while "the vast majority of American families would not be affected by those proposals, which would largely target the wealthy," tax increases for these businesses DO represent a disincentive to create more jobs, as that represents less resources in their pockets to pay the salaries for these jobs.
Wow!! Mc Cain really lacks substance and or creativity these days. I don't now how the American people feel but I can't escape the feeling that the voters are regarded as dumb brianless people. Mc Cain, your are rapidly running out of gas. The agressive and arrogant attide of your campaign staff presents you as old and desperate. Sorry, a couple of moths ago I was in your camp, guess what; I walked accross the aisle and feel much better and energized!!. After all Paris Hilton isn't that dumb as you think.
Typical republican, Bush and McCain lies. Same like off shore drilling, avoiding to tell the public that we will not have any benefits from such a stupid action, that it destroys the basis for Florida's income in the future since a lot of this income is based on the tourist industry. God forbit these oil rigs off the coast of Florida get hit and damaged/destoyed during a hurricane. The second aspect the republican, Bush and McCain gang is avoiding to tell the public is the fact that this will not bring any relief for the next at least 5 to 6 years at all and that the amount of offshore oil we could gain from this is merely a 0ne year supply for the US consumption. Now, do we really need another liar and oil industry dependent president? I think not, it is time for something new. After all, it can't be worse.
Why do i not see either Obama or McCain admit that revenues to the Government from us, the people(taxpayers), increased DRAMATICALLY after the tax cuts (so called Bush tax cuts). Tax cuts INCREASE money to the government. This should be headline news. It is our representatives who spend spend spend, and they have been, war or no war.
God, McCain and his camp are such lying idiots!
When are we going to realize that the Bush, "cutting taxes is the solution to every problem" strategy has failed us. Yes we might have the 2nd highest corporate tax rate in the world. How big is Ireland's army, navy, and marines. Who has helped us in a significant way with our Aids help in Africa? Who gives Israel the amount of financial and military support that we do? If company's don't care enough about our country to support all of this great work, leave. I don't know about the rest of you but I'm a small business owner. My federal taxes have descreased but my local taxes have more than compensated because the federal government significantly cut money going to states for things like education. Local governments have had to compensate. McCain offers more of the same.
What can we expect next from the McBush campaign -- Obama personally responsible for global warming and his brilliance is causing polar caps to melt? "Low Road" McBush ads are not only whoppers, they also insult the intelligence of American voters.
Who’s better for the US economy McCain or Obama?
Some background
Corporate Taxes: In resent years the statutory tax rate for our highest earning corporations has been 35-37%. That places us as the country with the second highest rate globally; a couple percentage points behind Japan. What is often not mentioned is that the effective tax rate, the rate our corporations actually pay (the tax rate minus the incentives and tax loopholes that allow companies to reduce their tax burden) has been between 17.2% and 21.4% as reported by Robert McIntyre and T.D. Coo Nguyen in the “Multinational Monitor”, Vol. 25, No. 11. That puts us in the middle of the pack worldwide—most other countries just don’t have the number of loopholes we do.
Household Taxes: Since 1970 the top tax bracket has dropped from 71.75% to the current value of 35% (there was an increase from 31% to 39.6% in 1993 after which the downward tread resumed). During that same period the bottom bracket started at 14%, settled in at 15% from the late 80s through 2001 and then fell to its current level of %10. These are IRS and Congressional Budget Office numbers.
A Center on Budget and Policy Priorities report by Aviva Aron-Done tracked the effective tax rate for both our highest wage earners and the middle quintile. The report showed that the highest earner’s rate dropped dramatically during the 80s and then again in the late 90’s while the middle quintile stayed relatively flat.
Income: The period starting with the end of WWII and extending to 1970 marked a time of great economic growth and economic parity. Since 1970 the incomes of those at the very top of the economic ladder and everyone else have dramatically diverged. These facts are not in dispute. Janet L. Yellen (President and CEO, Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco), pointed out that between 1973 and 2005 the highest 5% wage earners increased their earning at a rate almost 7 times that of the lowest 10% of earners.
The US Census Bureau charted the median annual family incomes for the six economic expansion periods between 1960 and 2007. The only period where the median income was flat was between 2000 and 2007—the reason, only those in the top 25% income bracket experienced growth, everyone else either stayed where they were or lost income.
Professor Larry Martles (“Unequal Democracy: The Political Economy of the New Gilded Age”) makes two important points in a recent New York Times article; first, “…80 percent of net income gains since 1980 went to people in the top 1 percent of the income distribution…” and second, “…the real incomes of working-poor families (at the lowest 20th percentile of the income distribution) grew six times as fast when Democrats held the White House…”
Supply Side vs. Trickle Down: Supply Side Economics is driven by two ideas. First, encouraging new businesses also encourages the growth of backend logistic support for those businesses thereby doubly job creation. Second, across the board tax reductions will both encourage new businesses plus grow the market for those businesses. What is understood by “honest” economists is that the tax reductions needed to produce this scenario will not be fully paid for by increased tax revenues from the new businesses—Supply Side Economics requires long-term deficit spending.
What has actually been practiced since the 1980s is Trickle Down Economics. David Stockman, Ronal Reagan’s budget director, has admitted that the Reagan administration used the term Supply Side while they were really practicing Trickle Down. In Trickle Down Economics only one side of the equation is worked. Tax reductions are given only to the wealthy to encourage business growth. One flaw with this approach is that it is an extremely inefficient approach to economic growth. Giving those already wealthy more money doesn’t assure they’ll send it like we would wish—they might invest and spend some in this country, they might invest and spend overseas or more probably some combination of the two. Giving those in need money does guarantee growth in local markets—current headlines attesting to the economic benefits of the resent tax rebates prove this point.
Conclusion: This country’s long term economic health will only be realized if we have a large and vibrant middle class. Re-building that middle class will require closing the economic divide between the very wealthy and the rest of us—moving people out of poverty. Republican administrations have proven they are not up to this task. McCain’s insistence on keeping in place Bush’s tax cuts for the wealthy will only hurt our economy.
Another carl rove touch......whatever happened to McCain's principals?????He used to be a nice guy.........Though I am an Obama supporter......
Same old attack ads from the Republican Party. Never changes. Scare tactics are their expertise. If the Anerican voters fall for it again, they deserve another 4 years of the economic mess that Bush has given us. McCain represents the same old policies of the 8 years of Bush economics. Wake up Americans.
Not sure what language filters there are on this so...
Sod off McCain!
None of this matters. We as Americans are too stupid to see through mccain's nonsense. We deserve what we get: another 4 years of bad policy, unhappy citizens, lies, and dread. Congrats America.
The way the tax increases directly affect the family is in their consequence for driving capital out of the country. This will drive the dollar down, cause wage suppression, and increase the possibility of job loss and recession. Our social programs will be unfunded, and our push for energy independence will be handicapped.
This is a horrendous depiction. It is terrible that McCain has stooped so low as try to instill such fear in America's people. This is a terrible cheap shot and this type of politics is a horrible sign for America. Will the people in this country continue to be controlled through their fear or will they be able to realize that these tactics are manipulating them?
As a Republican, I'm embarrassed John McCain is our candidate. When are we going to address the real problem, the national deficit? How are we ever going to pay off the debt if we don't have a tax base? My parents are also fearful their Social Security is going to disappear, and they need it to live. I don't know about you, but I'm willing to pay an extra few dollars each month if it means making social security more solvent. Being in CA, I also disagree with him on off shore drilling. It's not a solution to the oil price problem. In addition, how in the heck does someone worth over $300 million identify with me, average American? Can I have my vote back? Ron Paul is looking more attractive everyday!!!
When any man starts lambasting another man, deriding him, making fun of him, stepping on him, there is something dishonest and wimpy about that.
If that man is running for a position of leadership, but is trying to get there by putting others down he is doing so because he feels weak.
If that man is running for the responsibility of being President of the United States, or of any other country, and he plays these kinds of games then he is already proving that he is not leadership material, because he is being dishonest to all of us... where are the real leaders?
It seems that though this tired old man John McCainis now stealing barack Obama Ideas about renewable energy. For 26 years he has been in both the House of Representatives and the Senate and never presented any new ideas about energy only proposed and supported tax benefits for the big oil companies and the wealthy, and used his influence to aid Charlie Keating in the keating 5 scandal. It is pathetic that he has to steal ideas and use negatives ads to try and promote his campaign. It is like his support for the Iraq War that now has put $79 BILLION dollars in surplus in the Iraquis bank account while we continue to spend Billion dollars a month to rebuild IRAQ.Do we need a president like that? I believe only fools will.
Kevin, you are the one who needs to do the research! Go to factcheck.org, see the July 2008 statements, "The $32,000 Question". Again, the Republicans are just "making it up as they go along". They are doing everything to twist & turn and manipulate the truth!
Obama's campaign person who was support to bring in the Muslim votes for him just resigned because of ties to Muslim extremist/terrorist. Obama really knows how to pick 'em, huh? Now his appointments ARE bad for families.
Who is Barack Obama? He changes his stance on issues like the wind. One day he is for, the next day he is against. How can anyone actually know where he is coming from? Unbelievable.
I find it so interesting that the only pro-McCain comments seem to tout this idea that if it weren't for Big Business and rich people, all the rest of us would be lost. Excuse me, but while some of us have worked hard for what we have and know the meaning of generosity, you who profess to be the saviors of the world hinge your star on making slaves of the people for your own feathered bed. There needs to be changes. The world is tired of greedy self-interests tilting the scales in personal favor and calling it anything but divisiveness or greed. Those who support McCain say that if we tax big corps, that we will lose our jobs so we should be kissing the feet of the blood suckers? Wrong! In an endless hunger for wealth and power, the American dream is being ruined -- answers to the world problems are being quashed because these ideas compete with the big players and all the rest of us suffer. What about the motors that run on water or the lazer imaging that could spare women the invasive mamograms. Everyone knows that the corporate machine is keeping these innovations from reaching us so they can stay on the hill and reap the spoils. We're sick of it. It is time for a CHANGE!
The notion that somehow increasing taxes for the wealthy is bad for country is absolutely ludicrous. Let me explain something in response to that comment: Europe has higher living standards for average person than United states. U.S. overall is far wealtheir than all of Europe. But in contrast, the elite of the European nations enjoy good public health care system, almost free education e.g Switzerland, Germany and France to mention a few. Then it makes you wonder, if these countries are achieving this, what is wrong with United States. The answer is simple: unfair distribution of wealth and non-effective taxing system. By raising taxes for the wealthy enables create funds for better infrastructure, schools, health care because government is able to subsidize, therefore reducing cost for those that earn less. In the long run, creates higher living standards and welfare of families. That means less poverty, reduced crime levels and affordable access to basic facilities that we all need such as health care, better schools thus increasing level of productivity and a fair distribution of income. Having spent half of my life abroad, i can honestly say, these challenges are attainable but it requires a fair and just leader, and most importantly people have to stay engaged and involved with politics in this country. Politics control everyone's lives in one way or another.
So we are at a point where having a strong global stature is being turned cynically into being a celebrity. Interesting. With Independence of 1776 and the new Constitution, George Washington, Ben Franklin, and other leaders became international celebrities for what their experimental little country was doing. An ancient, energetically comparable example might very well be the fact that, it is said, every single person on earth heard the sound of revelation at Mt. Sinai, which would make Moses, who was quite an impactful leader, a celebrity, too. In more recent times, as well, US presidents and leaders have been honored in foreign countries for their bold leadership. For example, the capital of Liberia is named Monrovia after US President Monroe, just to name one.
Suddenly now, a portion of our country wants to shrink back and actually make it a "negative" or "scary" thing for our president and leader to be an international celebrity. Yet it is simple: People "celebrate" leaders who take a stance, make important, bold, and good changes.
Have we lost our confidence that America IS, always has, and will be an international sensation? Boldness and leadership just attracts celebrity. It lessens a candidate that his idea of leadership is to be less in the spotlight. My uncle Bill is less in the spotlight, but his leadership development is less than presidential, too.
I know we have this idea that what's popular is superficial, and can lead to blind faith in the leader, but that only goes so far. That idea ends when it makes us stop believing in ourselves that the American idea of bringing new leadership and creativity and hope into the planet is a mission worthy a attracting a worldwide sensation.
Bush busted up that sensation into a PR catastrophe for the good name of America, but don't let that shrink our confidence by voting for someone who will further lessen our stage presence so we can shrink back to obscurity. We want to be great? If so, greatness will be always in the international public eye. It is to our next president's credit, and now you see why it's in the interests of our country, for our President and leaders to be international celebrities.
Instead of shooting ourselves in the foot thinking it is the more patriotic thing to elect the candidate who has less exciting appeal both at home and abroad, let's be bold, America the Brave and Beautiful. With feat on the ground and back straight, a man or woman's head is held high. Standing tall means that, until everyone is taking their full stand in life, that person will and attract attention, which means celebrity. As free humans, we each can stand tall in our lives, to make our own 15 minutes (or more) of fame count for something good and bold. A country of great people standing tall chooses a political leader we respect as a leader who, by that boldness, captivates the worlds' attention.
For the last eight plus years this country has needed a President to look up to. A President who instills hope rather than fear. People are aware that the world is not always a safe place, that there are people and nations who do not like us. I found it very refreshing to see a candidate take the time to introduce himself to the leaders of other countries. To show the side of America that wants to work with countries instead of trying to run them. No body likes a back seat driver. While we shouldn't forget the heroes of the past who fought for true freedom, not the freedom to rape the world with high fuel costs and damage to the environment, but the freedom to live safely, it's time to put aside the old war stories and move on to a clean and war free world where we concentrate on living and keeping this world a liveable place. I think that Barak Obama is the best hipe we have.
Apparently people don't understand the message in the ad. THERE IS A CHANGING ECONOMY! COMPANIES AND PEOPLE WORK ONLY IF THEY HAVE INCENTIVES!!!! Are we that incompetent!! Get off the Obama band wagon and open your eyes please. stupid people. if we would all like to work more to pay bills and b/c companies will be in an uproar after our tax hikes from this so called man for change. lets increase capital gains tax. hey jackass, id like to retire before 65. not have 50% of what I make on my investments a year taken away b/c you want to decrease a deficit with a tax hike. you know everyday i hope more and more that obama is elected just so we can impeach his ass when America is sick of him and his failing economic plans.
I am tired of hearing from the Obama campaign and democrats how Washington has left their children in Iraq. The last time I checked there was not a draft and these fine young men and women signed up to defend our country. Unless you have a child or family member serving you have no idea what you are talking about. If you talk with our soilders they will tell you that they are PROUD to serve our country and they want to see this to the end. They are fighting for our freedom everyday in the worst of circumstances while back in the United States you have protesters and people who do not support them in their efforts. There will always be a need for the military. We will not live in perfect peace. Read the Bible. Instead of condeming the military for what they do, stand up and support them and stop the bickering. No one will ever agree but without them to guard us from the terror that surrounds us, talking about the ecomony, schools and other things will have no meaning because we would either not be here or we would not be the United States of America.. the home of the free.. .and the brave.
