McCain grabbing gold in Olympic ads

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor August 5, 2008 01:03 PM

John McCain will apparently beat Barack Obama on one score -- how much in ad time bought during the Beijing Olympics.

Advertising Age is reporting today that Republican McCain plans to spend $6 million during coverage on NBC and its family of networks. That surpasses the $5 million that Obama has bought.

The Olympics, which start Friday with opening ceremonies, will dominate media coverage, so the political ads should get the attention of casual voters who haven't been paying attention to the race (at least those who don't use their Tivos to skip commercials).
