McCain mocks Obama, again

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor August 1, 2008 03:54 PM

John McCain's campaign launched another web ad today to mock Barack Obama as "the one" who will lead the nation out of the wilderness and to the promised land.

It tries to use clips of Obama's own speeches and comments to marshal the case that Obama is supremely arrogant about his own talents and destiny. "We are the one's we've been waiting for," Obama says in one clip.

"He can do no wrong," the announcer says sarcastically.

The ad even compares him to the Biblical Moses, showing the scene from "The Ten Commandments" where Charlton Heston parts the Red Sea. In the parting water appears Obama's quickly-shelved campaign seal, which critics said looked presumptuously like the presidential seal.

"Barack Obama may be the one," the announcer concludes, "but is he ready to lead?"

“It’s downright sad that on a day when we learned that 51,000 Americans lost their jobs, a candidate for the presidency is spending all of his time and the powerful platform he has on these sorts of juvenile antics. Senator McCain can keep telling everyone how ‘proud’ he is of these political stunts which even his Republican friends and advisors have called ‘childish’, but Barack Obama will continue talking about his plan to jumpstart our economy by giving working families $1,000 of immediate relief,” responded Obama campaign spokesman Hari Sevugan.

  1. This is highly offensive! McCain is making fun of all Christians when he makes fun of our Lord Jesus Christ, and I am not talking about Barack Obama.

How can this supposed man of honor denegrade an entire religion for his own selfish political ends? He has and will continue unless Christians rise up and tell him that with their vote they will not allow anyone to trample on that which is sacred.

These thugs and liars need to be stopped. This is still one nation under God . It doesn't belong to John McCain and his disciples of dirt.

    Vote against the profane.

  1. O-M-G! Has McCain lost his mind? (Along with all shreds of integrity?)

What kind of game is his campaign playing at? When everyone else has recognized that now, more than ever, we need to get serious about the serious issues facing America and the world - this is the kind of crap McCain thinks will wins him the election?

It might be funny if the intentions weren't so blatantly evil.

  1. Does McCain know that he's supposed to campaign against Obama and not for him?

  1. This is the last straw for me. McCain has fallen from a great American war hero to a two-bit politician making a disgrace of himself and the republican party.

I'm ashamed to have been a loyal republican for all these years only to have Bush destroy my party and now to see McCain lower himself to the same level.

Mr. Obama will be getting my vote!

  1. It is simply amazing that anyone pays attention to this nonsense. We are suppose to be voting for the candidate that will best guide this country, Not some clowns that the best they can do is throw dirt at each other. This political process is discussing and self serving. So they get to the White House and then what, the same crap we've been seeing for years. I wish there were honest and noble candidates that speak for what they believe is the best for this country running for the highest office in the land.

  1. McCain's battle against Obama is almost comical. Obama is a smart top Harvard Law graduate that speaks with great clarity and logic. McCain has squandered whatever legitamacy he once had steming from his Vietnam war record and sounds like a nasty little kid trying to get his way. The really scary concern is that so many American voters can still support McCain in light of such an obvious choice. The sad reality is that a large portion of that support is seeded by good old-fashioned racism. There are people that will not vote for Obama because he is black and they don't care how smart he is or how clearly he thinks. I know this is true because I see it within my own extended family. They are older folks who grew up with this prejudice inculcated in their brains and they are unable to embrace the new society. They cannot accept the fact that a black man (nor half black) could possibly be smarter or in any way better than they are.

  1. Perhaps Obama should retaliate with a "McSame as privileged fraternity pledge" ad?

  1. These ads only appeal to those who wouldn't vote for Obama no matter what. I agree that these ads are a sign of desperation, and in my opinion the hope is (and it seems to be working) to get the media talking about ANYTHING except what's going on in the economy and McCain's constant stream of flip flops, gaffes, and face-plants.

  1. I have liked and admired McCain for several years. But his religious blasphemy and mockery of faith in God has turned me off for good. If his goal is to leave the country divided once again after the election, he is doing a great job. For a self-professed public servant, he should know better.

  1. Keep it up McCain, you look more and more like an old, pathetic fool every day. No way should you be trusted to run a country.

  1. It seems from these comments that McCain has hit a sore spot. Obama's messianic pretensions are so obvious as to make him laughable. That smug grin and all. But when someone points out that the "emperor's new clothes" are a bit lacking, evereyone gets all testy and blames McCain instead of Obama. Go ahead, drink the Cool-Aid.

  1. Lest we forget... McCain would no 'the one' when he see's him.

After all he was around for the original 'the one'... and so he should know.

  1. It's true what they say, liberals have no sense of humor.
It's not "desperation" to respond as you can when Mathews and his ilk are in the tank for BO. "A thrill running up my leg," are you kidding me?!?!? Is someone still giving this guy a paycheck for being a newsman? Maybe Terry McAuliffe.
And well spoken and intelligent? BO? As long as he has a teleprompter and doesn't have to think on his feet. Such stammering and studdering, the guy makes Bush look eloquent. It is a clear choice this year with a Marxists running. If you wish to become what the world has been rejecting since the wall fell, go on and vote for BO. Oh, BTW, that impressive crowd in Berlin? It was drawn by a free rock concert being held directly afterward.
What a pack of sheep you are, BAAAAA! I've got a bridge to sell in Brooklyn.

  1. I am a born again Christian. I do not see one thing offensive about the ad. It simply points out that Barack Hussein Obama is just a little bit full of himself.
He is inexperieced, he has done nothing for his fellow-man or his country, and oh yes, he is black.

  1. I am an independant voter. I have looked at both sides extensively. Anyone who is keeping up to date with this election can see that Se. McCain is running a dirty campaign. Everytime McCain is on T.V. he bashes obama instead of telling us his views. It is clear we need to change the way this country is one and right now it looks like barack obama stands for that change.

  1. Although I don't know why anyone would waste their time listening to the "The One" or its simian blow up doll, he has engaged in smarmy efforts to fool the gullible and lead those dead from the neck up towards the creation of Planet of the Apes.......

  1. "Obama is a smart top Harvard Law graduate that speaks with great clarity and logic. " Really? Nobody from Harvard Law, other then a few Dem politcians, has spoken in his favor. Unlike Mitt Romney, whom quite a number of Harvard people have high praise for.

I think Obama's speeches are as ridiculous as is portraited in McCain's ads. Obama is ridiculous. Now he said other presidential candidates had spoken in a similar manner in the past, and nobody had ridiculed them. Well, his campaign should show us some video clips of other candidates who've spoken in similar ways, to substantiate his point. Otherwise, he's just bluffing as always.

  1. A hero for President not a whiner and thumb suckers like babies.Like Hilliary Clinton use to say "if you cannot stand the heat get out of the kitchen."Obama! you're running for President change your attitude instead of whinning and complaining about John Mccain doing what a real Presidential candidate ought to do just kept busy campaigning minding his own business about what is said and written about him because Americans have Freedeom of Speech Rights.

  1. GREAT AD! I don't care who you support or where you stand on this farce of a presidential process- THIS IS A GREAT AD! Very amusing, very artistic, using candidates own words and opinions of himself as well. All you people calling the McCain character down for this ad are just OFF BASE! He is correct, why not use a little humor- I sure get tired of the ponderous lectures from the Obama person!
