More veep speculation

In the vice presidential tea-leaf reading, there's this:

The Democratic National Committee just announced the speakers roster for the same night the nominee will give his or her acceptance speech, and three possible picks -- Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico and Senators Evan Bayh of Indiana and Joe Biden of Delaware -- are already set to address the convention.

That would mean that if one of them is selected, he would be giving two speeches that night. Bayh, in particular, had been high on many lists, but antiwar groups have been lobbying against him because he voted to authorize the US invasion of Iraq.

Of course, the speaking list could be changed at any time to take into account Barack Obama's pick for running mate.

The theme of the convention's third night on Aug. 27 is national security and Obama’s call for a new direction in foreign policy.

Others scheduled to speak are former president Bill Clinton, Senator Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, Senator Ken Salazar of Colorado, and House Majority Whip James Clyburn.

Representative Patrick Murphy of Pennsylvania and Iraq War veteran Tammy Duckworth will lead a tribute to US troops.
