Obama aiming for 2 million donors
Barack Obama's campaign is trying to use Republican rival John McCain's attacks against him as "the biggest celebrity in the world" to reach a historic milestone -- 2 million individual donors.
"While supporters like you are out knocking on doors, registering new voters, and organizing in your local communities, our opponents are not even trying to match your efforts. Instead, they're spending millions to spread the smear that Barack is just a 'celebrity' and that our grassroots movement is just a bunch of mindless fans," Obama's campaign manager, David Plouffe, wrote to supporters this afternoon.
Obama has broken all sorts of presidential fund-raising records. By the end of June, he had raised about $340 million. Unlike McCain, Obama is bypassing public financing, so he needs to keep up his fund-raising pace.
"Two million donors is an incredible number -- a number that was previously unimaginable for presidential campaigns. And it's a number this campaign never dreamed we could reach before the convention," Plouffe wrote, asking backers to give at least $5 and match another donation.
"But because so many supporters have stepped up to own a piece of this movement in the face of McCain's attacks, we are just days away from making history," Plouffe continued. "And with only 85 days until the election, we can't afford to do any less."

Anyone that donates is a fool... His campaign contributions recently financed his family taking a private 747 jet to Hawaii. While his contributors struggle to fill their tanks, their contributions are paying for a multi-millionaires lifestyle...
It's amazing that John McCain would try to win votes by essentially insulting tens of millions of people who support Obama. I think this incredibly dumb ad campaign is going to blow up in his face. How can McCain try to paint Obama as "out-of-touch" with the common voter while at the same time showing him making appearances in front of thousands and thousands of those very same people, in all their enthusiasm. It's beyond confusing, it makes zero sense.
John McCain is a moron. In that sense, I guess he's a traditional Republican candidate.
I agree with the first two paragraphs wholeheartedly. Instead of addressing issues and expressing a way to solve some of the problems facing our Country now, the other side is using disinformation, slander, ridicule and just plain making things up to get people to worry about the election. It is the same machine as the one in 2000 and 2004 that made things up then. So if you don't think that McCain is not more of the same, then just take a quick look at the situation and compare it to what has happened before. He is the same and is the thrird term of bush policies.
We have to keep our senses, think about how to solve the issues confronting our Country and vote for the guy that has a specific plan to solve the issues. And that guy is Obama. He has clearly addressed issues and has what seems like to me a good plan to solve many of the problems facing our country and I think he has the common sense to figure out what to do in what ever case he faces. Get out and convince people to vote for Obama.
Go ahead, give Obama your hard earned money while he and his wife keep their million dollar TAX FREE fund, travel to Hawaii with the whole family on your money.....be a fool........you can charge it on your credit card and pay interest each month on your hugh balance, very high interest.......while the Obamas and the rest of the political team spend, spend, spend.......you can always get a second or third job....go ahead and donate.
The Obama campaign owes the FEC (Federal Election Commission) an explanation as to where the $$$ came from to pay for their Hawaii all-expense paid vacation. They will get no more of my $50 here, $50 there donations. They have shown their true colors as narcissistic and arrogant. They will keep milking your money until you can no longer pay for gas or groceries.
The Obama's have taken US (and you and you and you) for a ride!! Their staff will only stay in the Four Seasons hotels or the Del Coronado. Places you and I will never be able to afford. All on the backs of your hard-earned dollars.

It's pretty funny when McCain fans attack Obama for acting rich. It's because they think you are too stupid to know that McCain is actually the multi-millionaire with eight houses and a private jet.
