Obama: New energy future in America's 'hands'
Barack Obama's TV ad that will run during the Beijing Olympics is an uplifting appeal to Americans' can-do spirit to transform the economy with sweeping changes in energy policy.
"The hands that built this nation can build a new economy. The hands that harvest crops can also harvest the wind. The hands that install roofs can also install solar panels. The hands that build today's cars can build the next generation of fuel-efficient vehicles," the announcer says, as the appropriate images appear on screen.
Then, Obama appears on screen. "Barack Obama," the announcer says. "A new vision for our economy. Fast track alternative fuels. Create five million jobs developing home-grown energy technologies because America's future is in our hands.”
The ad will run on national cable and in all 50 states starting Saturday, his campaign said.
Obama plans to spend $5 million on ads during the games, which officially started with the opening ceremonies today. Republican rival John McCain plans to spend $6 million.
Obama, meanwhile, is off to Hawaii for a vacation with his family until next Friday. He plans a welcoming ceremony today and a fund-raiser on Tuesday, but otherwise has no public schedule.

Yes, let's fix our economy the Obama Way by:
- Wearing more sweaters ala Jimmy Carter.
- Taxing everyone to oblivion to ensure we have a Socialist society and redistribute the wealth.
- Running our cars on potatoes like a 5th grade science project.
- Singing Koombuyya around the campfires (used in place of nuclear energy).
- Turning off the lights in Congress and going on vacation instead of sticking around and coming up with an Energy Policy that works for America. Thanks Pelosi for being so "bi-partisan" as promised.
- Running our transportation systems on the hot air that comes out of your mouth.
PUMA

PUMA
Puma your an idiot !!!
It's people like you that elected Bush and got us in this mess to begin with
and now you want to carry on your legacy of ignorance. This country is in shambles because of it leadership, and you want more of the same? Lets get past the hate people... look at these candidates for what they are one guy actually want to make a difference and has a plan and they other is more of the same ole crap that has tarnished us as a country. Being American shouldn't mean we are happy to be ignorant idiots like puma.
YOU PUMA'S ARE A BUNCH OF WHINERS!!!!!!! NOT ONLY THAT, YOU ARE ALL IGNORANT AND STUPID!!! HILLARY LOST, GET OVER IT OR LEAVE THE USA FOR CANADA, OR MEXICO, OR SOMEPLACE BETTER THE HERE! The Democrats have only had slight control over the Congress for less the 2 years! Up til then it's been the Republicans in control. What was done about the energy crisis in the last 20 years?????? NOTHING! So don't blame the Democrats or Obama, blame the same old oil magnates, the Republicans!
Too Puma,
"Yes, let's fix our economy the Obama Way by:
- Wearing more sweaters ala Jimmy Carter."
What does this even mean?
"- Taxing everyone to oblivion to ensure we have a Socialist society and redistribute the wealth."
Thats funny, by "everyone" you must be 5% of American that makes more then $250,000. Everyone else will see lower taxes then if McCain becomes president(this is a FACT, check the candidates budget plans.)
"- Running our cars on potatoes like a 5th grade science project."
Not a bad idea, if Obama can get this to work he would fix the oil crisis.
"- Singing Koombuyya around the campfires (used in place of nuclear energy)."
Is the singing, campfire, or koobuyya song that will produce energy?
"- Turning off the lights in Congress and going on vacation instead of sticking around and coming up with an Energy Policy that works for America. Thanks Pelosi for being so "bi-partisan" as promised."
So now Congress is not allowed to take vacations or think about a bill before they vote on it? I'm glad you didn't right the Constitution.
"- Running our transportation systems on the hot air that comes out of your mouth."
Again, what does even mean? You make no sense. It is obvious that you are a GOP idiot with no facts. Stop crying about Obama, and produce a candidate that is compitent, then maybe you will get some votes.
I liked Obama's energy policy and the ad. McCain sounds like spokesperson of big oil companies. He makes fun of conserving energy and the next day he says it really works. I think these issues are too serious to joke about. If we don't want our dollars and jobs to go to countries like Iran, Venezuela, Saudis .., we have to be creative, not destructive like puma. I thought puma was a smart animal. I bet real pumas are.
why is obama spending 5 million while mccain spends 6? doesn't obama have plenty of money after those huge fundraisers? obama needs more ads like these and really needs to take control of this election and stop having to respond to all these ridiculous mccain ads. VOTE OBAMA
Actually Real American - You're the "Idiot"
You say ..."This country is in shambles because of it leadership, and you want more of the same?" then in the same breath you call someone an "idoit" and say "Lets get past the hate people".
You go on to wine "the country is in a shambles". - Here's an idea sparky, how about you stop hating your country (still the most gerous, most free Nation in the world)?
How about you drop the partisan talking points- (what on earth does "Bush" have to do with Obama's lack of a coherent energy policy)?
If you truly think that checking your tire pressure and ethanol are the answer to our energy problems you're a true dolt.

What an idiot this Puma! You don't have an efficient transportation system you moron - it's long lines at the airports ladden with almost bankrupt and inefficient airline companies, over crowded highways and delapidated bridges. It's functional idiots such as yourself you voted for a couple of incompetent fools/oil executives and ready to vote again for increasingly senile old man. A man who does not even know how to use a computer let alone how to manage a complex economy. Only the "liberal media" has been duped by this drill here, drill there chorus of imbeciles ( 10 years before one can see any benefits) - and yet those guys have been in politics for a quarter of century and only now they see it fit to find a solution to our addiction and dependence on foreign oil. Humans did not move away from the stone age because of lack of stones and, by the ways, we've almost reached peak oil. Wow...you republican't folks enjoy being stupid.
Let's fix our economy the REAL Obama Way by:
- Cutting taxes on 90% of Americans, only raising them on the +$200,000/yr set, whick I'm betting isn't PUMA
-Running our cars on Synfuels, such as ethonal and biodiesel grown locally instead of paying poeple who want to KILL US with the money!
- Singing Yes We Can! around the solar panels we install 'cause, YES WE CAN (used as indirect nuclear energy).
Getting the aforementioned, Working Energy Policy in place and leading in a truly bipartisan way, NOT like the GOP has managed for 10 years... and spending less time on vacation than the lazy W.
-Running our transportation systems on the production of AMERICA (or the crap that comes out of PUMAs mouth.
P.U.M.A. = Pathetic Undercover McCain Advocates.
The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s. The five senators, Alan Cranston, Dennis DeConcini , John Glenn, John McCain, and Donald W. Riegle , were accused of improperly aiding Charles H. Keating, Jr., chairman of the failed Lincoln Savings and Loan Association, which was the target of an investigation by the Federal Home Loan Bank Board (FHLBB).
After a lengthy investigation, the Senate Ethics Committee determined in 1991 that three of them had substantially and improperly interfered with the FHLBB in its investigation of Lincoln Savings. One other Senator and the “wrinkly white haired dude” John McCain were cleared of having acted improperly.

His surrogates: Phil Gramm was one of five co-sponsors of the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000. One provision of the bill was referred to as the "Enron loophole" because Gramm drafted it in cooperation with lobbyists for Enron Corporation. Critics blame the provision for permitting the Enron scandal to occur. At the time, Gramm's wife was on Enron's board of directors. In 1973 he even invested in Pornographic Film

John McCain's Records on the environment: When it comes to crucial votes on the environment. John McCain received a big fat ZERO from the League of Conservation Voters on their 2007 National Environmental Scorecard. Turns out his recent attendance problem is no exception, just merely the most recent example of a consistent pattern of refusing to stand up and be counted when the environment is on the line. In fact, out of 535 Members of Congress, John McCain is the only one who chose to miss every single key environmental vote last year.
Blaming The Congress for taking a recess, John McCain wants them to come back and vote right now.

If you want to elect the wrinkly white haired dude, tell him to act presidential, and have a platform to run on. The most important and the largest investment that we can make in our time is ENERGY INDEPENDENCE. We should not be rushed into making a decision like the IRAQ WAR; I guess to republicans John McCain’s political pandering is STREIGHT TALK.

Tim_CA, you hit the submit button 3 times! I think you must be the dolt! Obama does have a coherent energy policy. The tire gauge is not his "energy policy". Any of you who say it is are just grasping a straws!!! Obama all along has been pushing for alternate energy and a way to make it a reality. What about McCain??? 45 new nuclear plants, but no idea what to do with the nuclear waste????? Is that coherent???? Get a grip. Real American does not hate this country, he/she is absolutely right about it being in shambles......we need change! And given that McCain has been in Congress for 26 years and nothing has changed, I don't see him making any "change" !! We can't afford 4 more years of the same old politics!!

I am sooooooooooo tired of McCain camp snarkiness talking about the issues in front of us. Make fun all you want but some of us don't want our country to continue to fall behind due to some short sighted behavior on the part of the republicans in control.
If the big three automaker had listened to Jimmy Carter when he said we needed to improve our mileage dramatically... well then I guess we might all being driving fuel efficient cars made in the US .
We might not be running up 600 Billion a year in credit card debt for wars in the Middle East....
And the republican brand might not be mud.
We need a Manhattan Project for energy dependence, not more billion dollar tax breaks to the oil companies and new gas leases so they can drill and sell high dollar oil to China and India.
I'm tired of seeing us elect our president's based on the Peter Principle.
If McCain was anything more than a tired old war hero, maybe he would have gotten elected in one of his past runs.
This is a superb ad. Obama ought to adopt this as his energy theme once he gets back from his break.
"The hands that....can also....The hands that....can also....a new vision for America's economy. A new vision for our energy."
Love the new Obama ad!
This old white woman in Arizona is all fired up and ready to vote Obama 08
Wonderful ad. Postive, uplifting and to the point! That's what I'm talking about... A candidate who can inspire, transform, and lead. Obama '08
ALEX: The Repubs bought $6m in ad time AFTER they learned the Dems had purchased $5m in ad time. It would have been a silly tit-for-tat move to raise the Dems' ad time expenditure just to out-do the Repubs. We'll leave the silliness to the Repubs, thank you very much. They are getting extremely good at cornering the market on silly, stupid, boring, lying, wasteful, misleading, etc.--to name a few, ads and strategies.
The only thing the GOP appears to have this year are mantras. Mantras that require you to use only your emotion and shut down your brain.
Senator McCain said recently that he thought we should let the states set CAFE (fuel efficiency) standards individually. There are probably many GOP'ers who think-- great idea, let the states do it. Why do they think this? Because this is a GOP mantra designed to turn of logical processes. Very intelligent people suddenly hear "let the state do it" and they fail to realize that this plan is a nightmare and demonstrates that Senator McCain does not have a clue.
Let the states do it-- and then automakers can make 50 different kind of engines to comply with the rules of 50 different states. WOW, that is one stupid plan.
It looks like the PUMA's aren't the Hillary die-hards after all, or at least the one who posted here isn't. I supported Hillary, and she was all for the can-do spirit and an "Apollo" project for alternative energy, like wind and solar.
So it sure does look like this PUMA thing is just a bunch of Republicans pretending to be Hillary supporters, just to make it harder to unify the Democratic party. Why am I not surprised?
