Powell denies report he's headed to Denver
Almost as quickly as the Colin Powell-for-Barack Obama balloon floated, Powell himself knocked it down.
Though the former Secretary of State has carefully guarded his choice this presidential election, he emphatically denied speculation today that he would attend the Democratic National Convention.
That buzz grew louder when commentator Bill Kristol said on Fox News Channel today that he had heard from "people who talk directly to the Obama campaign that Colin Powell will endorse Senator Obama and he may well give a speech at the Democratic National Convention explaining his endorsement of Obama.”
“People are very confident that Powell will endorse Obama, and they think it may well be the case that Powell will speak on Wednesday at the Democratic convention," Kristol continued. "That’s the national security night, that’s also the night the Vice Presidential nominee will speak. Obviously served the first term in the Bush administration; I don’t think that was a happy experience honestly for Secretary Powell and for whatever reason, I think he has decided that he is going to endorse Obama.”
But Powell, who later split from Bush over the Iraq war, told ABC News he has no plans to go to Denver: "I do not have time to waste on Bill Kristol's musings. I am not going to the convention. I have made this clear."

Powell also made it clear when he left the military that he wouldn't accept a cabinet post either, and we saw that he ultimately took such a job. Having been betrayed by the Republican't Party and the Bush crime family, one has to wonder what Powell's true political leanings are at this moment.
This big fool is still waffling. When will hCollin Powell become a real man? If Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Douglas Fith and Paul Wolfwitch will force this man to lie to the whole world against his integrity, honor, purity of heart, intelligence, conscience, against all obvious truths and against commonsense, he is not fit to be a man let alone a leader. To re-enforce his change message and make it credible, Obama should not court this man and if he offer to endorse him, he should reject, refuse and denounce it. Powell is a disgrace and disappointment to all men of courage and of good conscience. Dumb Bush and evil lunatic like Cheney I can forgive, but a man that should have known better but went along to get along is not worthy of my respect. Ppwell had nothing to loose if he had walked away like Paul Oneil and many other courageous ex-bush cabinat members. Despite tarnishing his honor, he was still used dumped and discarded by his bush regime.
Powell for VP with Obama would be epic!
Love the way Fox News put unconfirmed news in a condescending context like its a bad thing even if Powell did endorse Obama.
"We report the news. You decide"
I think Obama will appreciate that but how will that make Colin Powell look like in the Republican Party if he decide to run for President in the near future? I like Colin Powell to leave Obama swim by himself after all he is a Democrat but not a racial candidate.
Let us hope that General Powell has held on to his integrity, in spite of the compromises he made out of misguided loyalty to King George's reign. ANYone is entitled to a mistake, no matter how large. It isn't as though General Powell were stupid enough to not have learned from his mistake. Leave him alone and let him do as his conscience dictates. History will judge him accordingly.
Poor Colin Powell! I would hate to be a black intellectual at this time. There is so much pressure to get behind Obama, just because he is black. Obama is no Colin Powell, or MLK. The Obama campaign should stop badgering successful black people. They don't owe you anything.
To Ed Banks (# 2):
As a career military man, Gen. Powell knew that once the decision was made, his job was to implement it. We'll never know how much or how long he argued against the way the Iraq war was run, or how it has turned out. Earlier on, he advocated the "Powell Doctrine" to wit: never go into a military conflict without (a) Sufficient resources being committed (b) Strong Public support (c) a Clear EXIT Strategy.
A big reason why Gen. Powell never ran was that he chose not to put himself under the microscope or to undergo the demeaning process of the primaries. America lost the opportunity for one of the best Presidents ever when Gen. Powell declined to run. He would have been the candidate that the entire country would have rallied behind.
