Romney plans foray into Denver

Mitt Romney, who is under serious consideration as Republican John McCain's running mate, will venture into enemy territory Tuesday to promote McCain's cause.

He plans to be in Denver for a luncheon with reporters sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor.

Then, he is to hold a press conference at the Republican National Committee's "Not Ready '08 Response Center," about a mile from the Pepsi Center where Democrats are gathered for their nominating convention. The RNC has a new slogan for its attacks on Obama, fitting the host city's nickname: “A Mile High, An Inch Deep.”

Romney's Free & Strong America political action committee, which he created to aid Republican candidates this fall, also announced today that Romney will make two campaign stops for McCain in Nevada on Wednesday. The former Massachusetts governor has been one of the most active and vocal surrogates for McCain.

  1. I will vote for Senator McCain for the presidential election, if Senator McCain will pick Governor Mitt Romney. If he does not pick, I will vote for Ralph Nader.

  1. I love Romney. He's one of the very few out there with enough of a spine to tell the media about the issues for what they really are. Romney is difficult for the dems from so many angles; you can't bribe him, he already has money and is as clean as a whistle as far as his life and family goes, you can't discredit him, he's educated and speaks his mind regardless of what others think, you can't play him down because he's a proven success in the free market economy, management, and government. I'm beginning to more fully understand why evangelical leaders hate him (he won't be bought, bullied, or forced into their political interests), media hates him because he highlights the truth for what it really is, and Democrats hate him because he a legitimate, charismatic threat to their political agenda. These Romney hate groups then try to spin Romney as an opportunist and panderer! Ha! I'm 1000% behind Romney as VP. We need more men like Romney in Washington.

  1. McCain would be wise to select Romney as his VP. Romney is what this country needs--he's economically a genius, a true American patriot, a remarkable leader, a morally straight, and principled man. He is working overtime to help McCain for the love of this country, not for any personal gain. Go McCain and Romney!!!

  1. Mccain Romney is the Dream Team Ticket, One is an American Hero and with a Very Strong Military Background Who Will Protect this Country From The Evils of Terror. The other is a Principled, Moral, Ethical, Ecconomic Genius who can play the Game Better Than Anyone...Then We have Romney on 2012...

  1. Romney is the very best candidate to round out the McCain ticket. He's outstanding in so many ways. His experience is a good balance to McCain's impressive service and background. They truly would be the dream team. Please McCain, pick Romney. So many like me will be energized and ready to serve in your army to get you elected!

  1. If McCain picks Romney as VP. He will win the general election on November. Why & How? Simply because their professions were the most very importance to be leading the country.

  1. Mitt is the only good choice. He would be better as President.
He has tried to do what is right and let consequences follow.
He is who is is. A worker for all people and a worker to make our country stronger b y putting people to work instead of handouts.

  1. McCain should pick Romney! Now, that's a winning ticket! We deserve a great man like Romney for VP and then President of the good old USA!

  1. To Mary:

I hope you vote for McCain even if he doesn't chose Mitt. We need to stand together against the democratic agenda. Our troops would be most appreciative.

I DO know how you feel and I hope you'll change your mind.

    We need YOU.

  1. We need Mitt Romney now, more than ever! McCain is not who I would vote for in a million years, but if he chooses Romney for VP, I will vote for him. If he doesn't choose Romeny - I do not have a clue at this point who I would want for President! Did you see Kennedy the the DNC? He wouldn't know the truth if it hit him in the face! I STILL do not know what Obama really stands for! What he believes or what he would do as President - he's as slippery as Bill Clinton was - now that is SCARY!

  1. Wow, Bryan, you said it so well. As for me, I have been a little stingy with my contributions to the RNC, but if McCain enlists Romney, I will support him with everything I can. I intend to support him and whomever he chooses (though not with the same enthusiasm) because letting our other choice become our leaders is almost unthinkable to me if I have an opportunity to prevent it.

  1. I am an evangelical christian from Kentucky. I am all for Mitt Romney. Obviously the MSM is terrified of him. They did everything they could to discredit him in the primaries. Their main claim was that Romney was a flip-flopper. We've seen more flip flopping from the current candidates than the beijing olympics.
Romney is not a flip flopper he is a true convert. He changed his views on abortion after doing more study and research. The abortion issue is far more complicated than it was in the 60's. I wish more people would seriously study the abortion process and we would have more converts like Romney, GO MITT!!!

  1. I agree with #1 and #7. If McCain picks Romney, I will vote for the ticket. If not, I will either vote for Nader or Obama. McCain needs a truthful man with economic sense to stand beside him and fill in the gaps. Romney is the only one on the scene with those qualifications. What a shame that we couldn't have better candidates in this 'enlightened' age. If the evangelicals are truly 'christian' they will disregard their own propaganda against Romney and his religion. The concern is for a strong country and strong leaders.

Posted by Carole August 26, 08 10:51 AM
  1. I also will only vote for a McCain/Romney ticket!

Posted by cc August 26, 08 10:52 AM
  1. There is one reason we must vote for McCain no matter who his VP choice is: Supreme Court. If you vote for Nader or you don't vote, the Democrats will be in position to nominate judges that will make law, not uphold the Constitution. Our freedoms are at stake. I'm sure that Romney will be influential in the McCain administration no matter what his position. I, too, think he is the best. But as we've seen in the past, the best don't always get picked. That's how we ended up with McCain.

Posted by Sallie August 26, 08 11:01 AM
  1. I too like Mitt Romney and will only vote for McCain if he chooses Mitt as his running mate. I believe Romney should be the man leading this country and not McCain.

  1. All of the above says it for Romney.

    Go Romney!

  1. If McCain picks Romney, it will ensure a victory for Obama. Of course, that is a better scenario than having as president an old white guy who is so out of touch with the country and its future that he has never emailed or ventured online. Probably still uses a manual typewriter. Besides, he has a notoriously short fuse and can't even remember how many houses he owns. Oh, and let's not forget his pledge to keep those tax breaks for the rich while the country goes down the toilet economically and 47 million people can't affort health insurance. This is the best the Republicans can come up with? Give me a break. Romney would be no better, though. By the way, Summer, he's not an economic genius. He's part of the problem with our top-heavy economy. Anyway, he's a moderate pretending to be a conservative and is willing to say anything to get his foot in the White House door.

  1. McCain could get a whole lot of momentum from conservatives if he picks Romney as his VP. If he doesn't, I'll vote for him, but I won't get excited about it and I won't actively do much to promote him.

    Posted by Justamere10 August 26, 08 11:43 AM
  1. Why would anyone vote for Obama if McCain does not choose Romney? That reasoning is not reasoning at all. I am disappointed that anyone would vote for Nader if Romney is not the VP. Some people sound as if they have no principles at all. You scare me as much as the libs.

Posted by Marilyn Brennan August 26, 08 12:00 PM
  1. I will vote for McCain no matter what. The other option would be ruled by the extreme-left Obama, and that would be a nightmare. I would, however, want Romney for a VP. And not all evangelicals are biassed anti-mormons, by the way.

  1. Go Romney Go!
For those who said they would not vote for McCain if Romney isn't picked,
it is vital you vote for McCain no matter what, remember we need a Republican for the pick of the Supreme Court. For the freedom of our Country and our Constitution.

  1. McCain & Romney.... A winning ticket!!!!

Posted by June August 26, 08 01:21 PM
  1. I would vote for McCain either way...however the McCain/Romney ticket would be a dream ticket. I have three sons and 4 nephews currently serving in the armed forces for this wonderful country. The thought of Obama in the White House scares us all. Obama's lack of integrity and experience say it all. We need someone with Military experience and political experience which McCain has and the economic Genius and experience and moral integrity and conviction to the preservation of family values that Romney has to lead this country.

Posted by Christina August 26, 08 02:11 PM
  1. Kay,
So apparently you would rather have a president that has no idea when life begins than to have one that isn't sure of how many houses they have investments in? I work way too hard for my $$$ than to want to pay for health care for 47 million people which includes 12 million illegals. I also prefer to work for a wealthy man rather than for one who isn't! So, I hope he gets all of the tax breaks he deserves because he is employing an awful lot of people in our community.
What's wrong with a manual typewriter? Shouldn't we conserve energy? Isn't that what you liberals are always spouting or is this another one of your do as I say and not as I do agenda's?
How many tv's, cell phones, etc do you own? The economy in the tank? It seems that everything has gone down the tubes since the last election - meaning 2006!!! But, Romney on the ticket can get that straightened out!
When a person perceives that he has a weakness he needs to surround himself with those who are strong in that field. That makes a smart man! McCain will only further his cause in a positive way by adding Romney to the ticket!

  1. McCain and Supreme Court Nominations. Yeah McCain will nominate "conservatives" but they will have to be approved by the Senate which may well be controlled still and yet by the Democrats. Harry Reid will be obstructionist as usual or even more so if the Democrats win more Senate seats.

So what will McCain do? What he has always done i.e. reach across the aisle and compromise to get the Supreme Court seat filled. Based on the past, McCain will end up appointing another Ruth Bader Ginsberg then declare a victory.

I don't know about you but I am tired of voting for the lesser of two under qualified presidential candidates.

  1. Mitt Romney is one of a kind--in talent, character, morality, honesty, looks, etc. He is not your usual politician who says one thing and does/believes another. He would be a breath of fresh air in the White House and in the country. Go, Mitt!

Vice President choice for Mc Cain. He should of been the President but thats for another time.
    GOD BLESS AMERICA.

  1. Comments from #26 are right on. We need to elect conservatives to the Senate
& not give Reid & his ilk the power to thwart good nominees to the Court. So, we
need to work hard all over the U.S. to get good people elected, to both the House
& the Senate. This is not just a presidential election.
Even though McCain is not ideal, he is sooo much better than any dem would
be, especially the most liberal of them all, Barack Hussein Obama. People need
to take a good look at his "values". He is a Marxist who believes in infanticide awell as abortion. That may be a "strong" sentence, but it is (sadly) true. We all
need to really study him--what he has said & what he has done. Honest people
who truly study him cannot countenance his views or him. Bobbi Peterson

  1. It's obvious which party reads this page.

I'm a Republican who has been converted to a Democrat by 8 years of George W. Bush. I'm also a Utahn and a Mormon who would no more vote for Romney than I would for Ralph Nader.

A Mormon President? Sure, but not Mitt.

A Woman President? Sure, but not Hillary.

Obama for President? Yeah. And to those who say they still don't know what he stands for, aren't you reading his talks, his two books, his website, etc? It's all out there folks.

    Thanks for listening.

  1. This is the first post where I haven't heard some anti-mormon hate barb just because Romney is a mormon despite his strong family values, support for life and traditional marriage, economic and business experience while not forgetting health care without bankrupting the country, and steadfastness in regard to judges, which might give McCain a spine in regard to judgeships. Why is it that Obama not only has little experience but wants an expensive health care program, yet he comes from a state with a remarkable model for healthcare without promoting it? In Hawaii you get universal coverage without bankrupting everybody by having a law that for over 20 hours the employer must provide coverage, and for under 20 hours there is the qwest program as well as a couple of free health clinics with basic walk in services with three doctors.

  1. Hi, all,

Just a short note to add to all others. Just wanna say that I personally know Mitt Romney, though, I haven't seen him for years, but we were in the same Sunday School class when I was a young girl so many years ago & knew his immediate family very well. His mother was our SS teacher. This was around the time his father was Gov. of Michigan for a short time. Mitt comes from "good stock" & is the most honest, down-to-earth & well-rounded person I know, with a great deal of wisdom, not to mention, education in his background. He's, of course, very much a family man, as is the Mormon/LDS way. He's solid in his morals & beliefs & I think all these things, are something you don't see much of these days, anywhere...especially in many politicians. He would be a GREAT asset to the McCain Team. As for McCain's age, as I recall, similar things were said about Ronald Reagan, when he ran for President. I believe McCain is more focused on his campaign & the important issues of our day, than on how many houses he has. These are the usual tricks of the Dems to try to sway votes.
