Bill Clinton to stump in Florida for Obama

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor September 29, 2008 07:07 PM

Former President Bill Clinton will hold his first major events for Barack Obama this week in Florida, the battleground state that cost his vice president the White House in 2000.

Clinton will hold rallies in Orlando and Fort Pierce on Wednesday to urge Floridians to register to vote before the Oct. 6 deadline, Obama's campaign announced tonight.

Obama's campaign has "conducted a comprehensive voter registration effort that has registered thousands of new voters in Florida over the past few months. The former President’s visit kicks off the final push before the Monday deadline," it said.

Clinton, who strongly advocated for his wife Hillary and had a touchy relationship with Obama during the Democratic primaries, has vowed to campaign strongly for Obama.

  1. Bill Clinton should probably stay home. He's still harboring childish resentment. He's not helpful.

  1. If Mr. Clintons' heart is not in it, I don’t think he should campaign for Mr. Obama. It was so obvious on Meet the Press that Mr. Clinton was very uncomfortable talking about Mr. Obama. I’m disheartened because African Americans have always supported Mr. Clinton and you would think that he would be thrilled to help and get the first African/Caucasian President elected. Please forward my remarks to Mr. Clinton.

  1. If he is looking to truthfully support Senator Obama, I am thrilled that he takes on the task. It will help Obama in more ways than one and hopefully allow change to really occur, making Obama the President of the United States. Going back to the point, I hope Clinton is doing this from his heart rather than for the public eye to see. I am sure you all agree.

  1. Bill C. knows that if he fakes it and stumps too hard for Obama and Obama wins then Hillary is out for the long term. Hillary won't be able to beat an incumbent Democrat in 2012. And who knows who emerges in 2016.

Hillary was right, "Obama gave a nice speech in 2004 and that's about it".

  1. I am totally disappointed by his comments on Meet the Press. He does not understand the meaning of "team player". To say "McCain is a great man" and not describe Obama the same way does not help his cause unless he really does want Obama to lose. We would know why. Also giving the Republicans ammunition to use in an ad against Obama and Democrats is disgraceful. I have always been a huge fan of Bill Clinton until now.

  1. Mr. Clinton has just been running out the clock, using his public moments to praise whoever is not Obama and then predict Obama will win. Has he ever said he will vote for Obama? He's said John McCain is a great man. Yes indeedy and 2012 is a great year. He's had praise for Palin and Biden. He's running out the clock. If he keeps this up in his Florida tour he's really campaigning for John McCain. But then after the Obama landslide he can say he predicted it. On the outside chance that McCain wins, look for her to appear in the cabinet. The Clintons always do quid pro quo.

  1. Clinton can't say what he'd like to say. He comes off cynical of McCain or Palin and it's enough to push the undecided in the opposite direction. If you notice in Hillarys campaign, whenever she got down and dirty, Obama went up in the polls.

  1. I love Obama. How can I not love someone that is going tax me heavily because I worked 14 hours a day for 3 years to get my small business to a 250k + level. Well, I guess my charitable donations of about 10% will be slashed. Thanks Mr. Socialist and sorry for my success.
