Clinton on the way to Ohio

Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor September 10, 2008 02:59 PM

Hillary Clinton will go to another battleground state where she defeated one-time rival Barack Obama as she talks him up.

Clinton plans rallies Sunday in Akron and Lorain in northeastern Ohio, a usual Democratic stronghold in a state that could once again determine the next president.

Clinton's victory on March 4 in Ohio, as well as Texas, kept her presidential bid alive.

On Monday, she stumped for Obama in Florida. So far, Clinton has advocated for Obama's proposals on the economy and argued that Republican John McCain would continue the Bush administration's policies. But she has shied from directly attacking Sarah Palin, McCain's running mate.

  1. Hillary is playing it very very safe. She's going to Lorain County which is the most Democratic friendly area in Ohio! It's home to places like Oberlin - 1st co-ed college in the US, very liberal campus, etc.. She's not going somewhere to try to influence any Independents or Republicans sitting on the fence. She's there to continue to boost her base and keep her name in the forefront for another run in 2012.

She's not ticking off independent women like Oprah is doing. She's not making pig noises. She's not throwing around Sarah dirt.

Smart play Hillary, very smart play.

  1. Yes - I don't see Hillary coming out strong for Obama. If he loses here's one democrat that will not vote for Clinton in 2012. She needs to come out strong for Obama. At the convention she only did what she should have did months before and got credit for it.

  1. The desperate Obama campaign is like a crippled ship, belching smoke, taking on water, and shuddering from one devastating hit after another as McCain and Palin torpedo the socialist dreams of the ultra-liberal left political machine. Take a deep breath there Baracko; it's a long plung to the bottom.

Watch the high dollar lobbyists who cater to both parties go into damage control mode when McCain, Palin, and the Maverick Cabinet file into the White House on their first day at work. Heck, Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy, Feinstein and the lobbyists are probably sweating as we speak. Big party politics are about to be reformed.

  1. Obie Grad got a skewed vision of Lorraine County hanging around amongst the well heeled flower children dancing on the lawns at Oberlin....If Obie had ventured off campus very much he would know that Lorraine County Ohio (where my husband grew up) is VERY WHITE WORKING CLASS RUST BELT.....the kind of demographic group Obama MUST win over in order to win. GM, the economic anchor of the county in the 1970's and 80's has hit the road, one employer amongst countless others to abandon the area.

  1. I'm an Obama supporter, and I think Hillary has been doing a great job, and I don't think people should be questioning her motives. However, I don't understand the Clinton supporters who don't follow her lead and rally behind Senator Obama. If you want our government to support the ideas that Hillary has been supporting for years, then Obama is the one to do it. They have a lot of respect for each other and a lot in common.

  1. Uh, yeah... Vote for 8 more years of crap... Wow how dumb America really is... I suggest folks read Obama & McCain's Policies rather than listening to Media.. You would clearly see how much better Obama's policy is for America...

Besides, voting against Obama is preventing Hillary from getting that Secretary Of State seat that she wants... She did not want VP, she wanted President or Sec of State.... Get your a@@es out of the dirt.

    I approve this message

    Thank You,

A Smart Independent Voter who see's the McCain ticket for what it is - Theives and Liars ala Bush....

  1. Hillary is not on the ticket, so campaigning on Obama's behalf will not automatically draw women or blue collar workers to vote for him. If Obama did not want to pick Hillary, he should have vetted her even if it was for show. After all Hillary had expressed during the campaign that she would consider such a proposition. Many of Hillary's supporters were already disappointed, and when it was made public that Obama didn't even vet her, that was like rubbing salt into a wound. Anyway some voters are prejudiced and wouldn't vote for Obama with or without Hillary on the ticket.
