Convention officials confiscate sign from Mass. delegate

Posted by Sasha Issenberg September 3, 2008 08:50 PM

ST. PAUL -- Security officials, under the direction of South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster, the convention's sergeant-at-arms and its self-described top law-enforcement officer, seized a pro-Ron Paul sign from a Massachusetts alternate delegate during tonight's proceedings.

Francie Steffian, elected on Mitt Romney's slate, said she was given a handwritten sign that read "Keeping America Safe" when she entered the hall. She crossed out the slogan, associated with John McCain's campaign, and on the back wrote "Ron Paul Revolution." Shortly after displaying the sign, two men wearing McCain baseball caps and earpieces rushed to her section and demanded it from her.

"I just wrote my opinion on it, and they took it," said Steffian, of Ashby. "I didn't agree with it, so I wrote what I believe. I don't feel he's keeping America safe."

The two men were met in the seating area by McMaster, who folded up the sign, placed it under his arm and said, "Good job."

One of the men surveyed the scene and spoke into his wrist. "Please be advised that we have confiscated a Ron Paul sign in 124," he said.

The fix is in. What would they do if suddenly 1,000 delegates lofted Ron Paul signs?

Are you stupid? ... You can't have an OPINION ... the NeoCons are in charge now ... differing opinions are no longer part of official policy.

And why should any American think that the Republican Party will defend, much less uphold the Constitution? The Statists, whether Republicans or Democrats, can't stand dissent of any kind, especially when that dissent contradicts all the falsehoods they are trying to sell the American People.

These entrenchment candidates of both political parties are little more than parasites sucking the life-blood from this country; one day the People will once again Restore this Republic and watch the parasites scramble for the safety of their holes.

First we hear today about black-attired SWAT police arresting journalists for attempting to report on anti-war demonstrations taking place outside of the GOP convention. Now we have the GOP itself confiscating unapproved expressions of political speech from officially elected delegates. This from the so-called party of traditional American values, you know, values like freedom of the press and freedom of speech. Welcome to John McCain's America, and the man's not even elected yet! Imagine what he has waiting for us in the wings!

Ron Paul is the conscience of the Republican Party. That's why they want to pretend he doesn't exist.

The only NeoCons can win is to stifle any dissent, in both the Republican and Democrat parties.

"Today they want you to believe a patriot supports what government wants,"
... "A true patriot supports liberty and the people"

The Republican National Committee is not the government. It is a private organization and their Convention, like the Democratic Convention, is a private event. The First Amentment applies only to the government abridging rights of speech. Private organizations are under no obligation to allow their events to be disrupted and turned into a circus.
