Democrats blame McCain for impasse

Democrats continued to rip John McCain today, accusing him of helping unravel a possible Wall Street bailout deal.
Senator Harry Reid, the top Democrat in the US Senate, said it's time for the presidential candidates to leave the negotiating table.
"The insertion of presidential politics has not been helpful. It has been harmful," Reid told reporters.
Of McCain, he said, "All he has done is stand in front of the cameras. We still don't know where he stands on the issue."
McCain reportedly met this morning with Mitch McConnell, the top Republican in the Senate, and John Boehner, the House Republican leader who has been leading the opposition to the proposed deal.

It is high time for the Democrats and the news media to accept much of the blame for what has and is going on. This financial meltdown would have been prevented if Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac hadn't promoted the sub-prime and Alternate-A mortgages. In 2004 the congressional Republicans attempted to implement regulatory oversight of these two organizations which would have prevented this problem from ever happening. Unfortunately the congressional Democrats including Dodd, Frank, and OBAMA, thwarted this effort and the rest is history. Why shouldn't we be surprised by the fact that 2 of the biggest recipients of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Largesse was Frank and OBAMA? What really concerns me however, is the fact that this true story is being coverered up by the news media. A coverup like this is Watergate-esque and should be being investigated. If the American People knew about these facts McCain probably would be elected and perhaps the Democrats would lose congress. Oh I gues thats why?
While I am sure the Democrats were willing to assign nearly a trillion dollars in debt to the American taxpaying public, I for one am grateful for McCain, who has stepped up to ensure the country's best interests are met. Obama was ready to place his usual 'present' vote and get back to the business at hand: boning up on his foreign policy answers with his debate prep team. I believe he said he would be available by phone, if anyone needed him. Considering that this deal will affect the American public for years, if not decades, to come, I would think (as both a Senator and as a presidental candidate) he would actually want to have a hand in crafting it. Multi-tasking and prioritizing are two different things. A true leader knows the diffference, especially when the country is in the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.
McCain has again demonstrated his complete lack of judgment in the foolishness of the past couple of days. He seems to have a positively Palinesque grasp of the issues.
You're an idiot. Incase you forgot, in 2004, the Republicans controlled the house AND Senate. And all the regulations that have been in place on this type of stuff, has been in place since FDR's New Plan, and in 1999/2000 the Republican-controlled House and Senate voted them out, which allowed for this unregulated market.
If John McCain is responsible for the stall of the bailout my God lets make him President today. Surely someone will come to their senses and stop this folly.
AND WHAT ABOUT OBAMA?? WHAT HAS HE DONE? You Democrats can shut up and quit fussing about McCain-- you can't point to a single effort Obama has made to try to save our economy.
I, for one, would much prefer a leader who tries to fight a house fire with a small bucket of water and a line of people helping to ferry the bucket back and forth between a river than a leader who says, "Oh no! It's all over!!! What are you doing with that bucket?! That won't work!"
Somebody who offers bad solutions is preferable over somebody who offers NO solutions.
Harry Reid is the most partisan politician in government. How a jerk like this got into a position where he can dictate our future is beyond me. Probably took too many punches as a boxer.
The regulatory act hhaallb refers to above died in commitee. A commitee chaired by republcants, the majoity were republicants and McBush signed on as a co-sponsor 16 MONTHS after it died in commitee! And you sady Democrats blocked it! Can't ANY conservatives tell the truth?
Puhhleease...........
The deregulation of the financial services industry was all due to McCain's boy, Graham (sp? Gramm) that opened up Allowed for investment banks to merge into what we see collapse today. The retardicans were all for deregulation and tax breaks that really fueled this speculative market in the first place. The Democrats don’t want to give away money to these corporations, they want to avoid the next great depression AND most importantly protect taxpayers and homeowners as well. If we can have corporate welfare I don’t see whats wrong with keeping people in their homes.
While the Democrats are crying "OBSTRUCTIONISM" in the Paulson/Bernanke/Bush Wall Street Bailout plan... the Republicans are simply working to offer an alternative solution which protects the Taxpayer and does not institute a socialization of the markets.
Let's remember... the Dems HAVE ENOUGH VOTES to pass Paulson's plan all by themselves without a single Republican vote. I DARE them to do it! Of course they won't do it by themselves, because it's a BAD PLAN... so they want BiPartisan support for it!
A corollary to Murphy's Law states, "If two or more individuals have a hand in a problem, the blame will never be placed." The Dems are counting on this to allow them to pass this socialistic takeover of the financial sector, without taking the blame for it.
But the Republicans are saying, "If you want it... take it", but the Republicans hands are clean. "You buy it... you OWN it."
The truth always comes out. Always! There is enough blame for both parties to roll in this pig stye. If either really cared about the American people they would have done me than warn us int 2004. History show that money and congress mix real well. Vote them all out!
Are you not listening? McCain went to Washington but has no clue about the economy so he just sat there and was vague on where he stood on the issues. That is counter-productive and he suspended his campaign for that? Why didn't Sarah Palin take over the campaign, if she is qualified enough to take over the presidency if something where to happen to McCain then I think should be plenty qualified enough to take over his campaign.
OK McCain, He's speaking for the american people. We don't want Wall St. bailed out. Those guys make millions and want forgiveness for greed. Who bails us out when we over extend ourselves NOBODY!! Our phones ring with threats and insults. If the system is broke maybe it needs to be torn down and rethought. The sun will rise tomorrow. The PEOPLE don't want this bailout!!
John McCain the ultimate washington insider! Now he is for change. Ha ha ha! I admire him for bringing in a woman for VP. But he is a corrupt old geezer with old ideas who was involved with the Charles Keating S&L scandal. Where did he put country first? Show your true colors, grandpa. You care only about you. Your VP has a daughter who is a unwed mother. IF she cannot keep her house in shape how is she going to keep the country in shape. She knows NOTHING about foreign policy so if John Mccain dies of heart attack, I feel bad she will be will be WORSE than George Bush as President.
Republicians the most corrupt party of USA. Sold the country to the tobacco, oil industry. The house floor sticnks with tobacco money. The lincoln bedroom stinks with Oil money.
You all seem to miss the part where McCain is just using this as an opportunity to take the spotlight. Reid isn't the first congressman to point out that their presidential presence isn't helping legislation get anywhere. Obama has the right idea, the candidates should focus on being candidates, not attempting to score up brownie points.
First McCain is out of sync (WAPO) and doesn't know what he is doing and now he is responsible for the impasse?? Does any newspaper have any integrity left? It would seems the media spews backward drivel to try and control the American opinion. No wonder Sarah Palin gave up journalism. Here's something the media has never brought to light..
Obama's own words:
From Dreams of My Father: 'I ceased to advertise my
mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing
so I was ingratiating myself to whites.'
From Dreams of My Father : 'I found a solace in
nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's
race.'
From Dreams of My Father: 'There was something
about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And
white.'
From Dreams of My Father: 'It remained necessary
to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses,
to strike out and name names.'
From Dreams of My Father: 'I never emulate white
men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my
father's image, the black man, son of Africa ,( he lies here he has no
African roots he is Arab by birth) that I'd packed all the
attributes I sought in myself , the attributes of Martin and Malcolm,
DuBois and Mandela.'
NOW THERE IS CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!
What a goof!!!
@leaderslead...
You are so wrong about your view, it is truely epic fail.
Probably the greatest president of all time, FDR ran, in multiple campains, for President during the Great Depressiona and during WWII. You can do both and a president should. McCain scam may fool you, but not the people of America.
First of all, McCain's entire history of voting is DE-regulation, and DE-regulation is probably the KEY concept of Republicanism, to let the market be the market. Look at history before you make claims the Republicans urged oversight on FRE/FNM. It's a totally absurd statement and history-revision. Second, what are you "grateful" to McCain for doing? Sitting there and not giving his opinion about anything? HE didn't lead the Republicans in this, it was simply those who wanted to tack riders onto the deal like tax breaks etc. You both are deluded. Is it willing or have you been tricked by slight of hand and Fox media barrage? Go listen to the Palin-Couric interview and figure out what the person means who will be president when McCain's "Straight Talk Express" loses its elderly engineer. Talk about the little Engine that couldn't! She is an embarassment, as articulate as a South Carolina beauty-pageant contestant.
Yes America is WAKING UP !!
Despite the most diabolical, unethical campaign run in America's history by John McCain. Despite all the efforts to deceive American's , at the heart of everything is the ABSOLUTE TRUTH that over the past eight years the republican's have brought our great country to a state of utter SHAME. Our reputation has diminished in the world, over a corrupt , inhumane war and a foreign policy of arrogance and power. Our education systems, teachers, facilities, and funding have broken down. Our medical systems have become corporate monsters that have made health care unaffordable for millions . Our sciences are far behind the rest of the world's technologies. Our withdrawal from the Kyoto Treaty defies international efforts to improve the earths environmental issue. Our economy is on the brink of a depression, and our president has lied and mislead the country to a point of absolute apathy.
So finally the polls are shifting, as the pain, and the NEED FOR A CHANGE, strikes deep into the SOUL of true Americans.
McCain can try to cancel the debates, run deceiving ads, and bring out his barracuda barbie- doll with her guns and cold war mentality. but it's all rotting bait hanging on a very ugly hook that American's have come to recognize too well. It's not going to work this time, because there are eight horrible years that we have all just been through, and ENOUGH IS ENOUGH !!
Republican's resume can't hide under a mask.
As the Who said : " We Won't Get Fooled Again"
McCain has done nothing to help this situation. He in is own words said he does not know much about economics. Even now when the countries financial future is at risk the Republicans are still trying to line their pockets and those of their cronies by trying to get even more tax cuts for the rich.
Thank God that the Democrats are there to protect the average Americans interest. It is apparent with the deregulation over the last 8 years the republicans are not.
JUST SAY NO!
The economy is going sour, because Wall St. AND Main St. with the support of Washington have been living a life of speculation and greed, based on economic fraud and illusion. The Democrats have the votes to pass their cosmetically modified version of the Bush Administration's bailout proposal. The Republicans (including McCain) should vote against it, because it's simply a bad deal for the American people. Both sides will be praised and vilified, depending on whose side you're on. SO WHAT!.. like that isn't happening already.
As for bipartisanship, until we see a frank (no pun intended, Barney) and honest admission of responsibility on all sides of the political spectrum, all bipartisanship means is that the politicians in Washington have agreed to pull the wool over the eyes of the American people.
This mess has Democratic Party DNA and fingerprints all over it... and the Bush Administration failed to take charge, in spite of the fact that they predicted this was going to happen (as the NYT 9/11/2003 article attests). The Democrats have the majority, so they should act like a majority… but of course they recognize that this bailout is widely unpopular, and need to have the Republicans in Congress on board to avoid political liability. Bipartisanship in this case is about using you to cover my butt. Republicans in Congress should JUST SAY NO!
"the country is in the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression."
Thanks to a REPUBLICAN in the Whitehouse, and the anti-regulatory policies that were pushed through by REPUBLICANS...the fundamentals are strong
as McCain kept saying, even after he was looking like a fool for saying it.
"oh, the word fundamentals means the American Workers" a new definition, reminding me of Alice and Hupty dumpty ;
"When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather scornful tone,' it means just what I choose it to mean, neither more nor less.'
'The question is,' said Alice, 'whether you can make words mean so many different things.'
'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master - that's all.'
Obama was not in the Senate in 2004. Get your facts together before trying to illuminate them on this post
hhaalib... your assertion that in 2004 congressional Republicans attempted to implement regulatory oversight on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac IS A LIE. It was in fact, Democrat Congressional members who sought to regulate them. In 2004, Republicans had a majority in Congress and they voted against regulating Freddy Mac and Fanny Mae. Get your facts straight!
Harry Reid and Barack Obama are injecting politics into the negotiations. Reid was well aware that the House didn't have the necessary votes and stated he had a deal anyway. If a president can do two things at once, should he not prioritize the things he does? Had Obama paid more attention to the crisis he, too, would have known that there was disention on the matter - one that he rightly stated was the biggest economic crisis of our times. McCain has been on the television cameras far less that the political Reid and Obama. Notice you don't see Pelosi out there decrying that McCain caused the republican revolt - that's because she specifically said she wouldn't bring the vote until she had the Republicans to back it. Besides, nothing in the republican's proposal was so detrimental to the overall package and took much of the burden off the backs of taxpayers. Why is Reid in such a rush to slander McCain when the only thing republicans were suggesting is an alternate way of making the deal which Paulson has indicated can be included in an overall deal. Stop playing politics with my pocketbook and my business and family finances. It was correct for McCain to put his senatorial duties in front of the debate. The last thing I want to see now is a partisan, pandering shouting match. I want my money and my business secured.
For what its worth, The Economist just came out in favor of the bailout plan. The article I read indicated that they thought the plan was flawed, but passing it was better than not passing it.
In just 143 days in the U.S. Senate Obama pocketed over 1.25 million dollars in contributions from Freddie Mac. That figure exceeded the total contributions to any other member of congress except Chris Dodd, who pocketed 1.4 Million over 9 years. Pervert Barney Frank, of course, is responsible for pressuring Freddie and Fannie into making high-risk loans while Dodd, Frank and Schumer blocked the McCain bill (in 2005) that would have increased oversight and averted this crisis. I realize that there is a certain level of emotional maturity involved in admitting error, especially on something as personal as a decison to join a party or endorse a candidate, but this mindless fealty to OBAMA for absoutely no intelligent reason is simply inexcuseable. Obama is a preening and posturing little coward who specializes in standing on the sidelines while others make tough decisions, and then either taking credit if the plan works or swearing he was never for it if the plan fails. That is not "leadership", folks. Obama's indecison and panic in this crisis , combined with Harry Reid crying "we don't know what to do" and Pelosi sending the House on VACATION last week, is a chilling harbinger of any Obama-Pelosi-Reid administration combined with Dodd, Frank and Schumer running the economy. For the sake of the nation, people, set aside your childish "team sport" approach to this election and vote for the good of the nation. Vote for McCain. We need someone to simply balance the scales so that this cabal of loonies will not destroy the nation. On the other hand, maybe you want to lose your job, see our currency devalued, and embrace a socialist "malaise" so bad that even Jimmy Carter would look good. (Remember, when asked just two weeks ago, Obama said that he admired the Communist Chinese government's administration of their country. Obama's Houston HQ featured a giant portrait of Che Guevara until the Hillary Campaign called attention to it.) Please, wake up. Yes, Bush was bad, but let's not throw out the baby with the bath water.
AYCEEE ought to be careul whom he calls a liar because he is obviously a Democrat Kool-Aid drinker from the old school. Can you handle the truth, AYCEE? Because here it is: The Clinton regime (including the Congress) deregulated Fannie and Freddie back in the 1990's, villifying the GOP for its cruel and unreasonable refusal to extend credit to "the poor and minorities". (The standard Democrat line of bull.) Between 1995 and 2008 DEMOCRAT BARNEY FRANK pressured Fannie And Freddie to give unsecured mortgages to unqualified borrowers without doing credit checks or verifying the value of the real estate securing the mortgages. THE DEMOCRAT HEAD OF FREDDIE MAC (and Obama advisor) Raines POCKETED 90 MILLION DOLLARS IN SALARY AND BONUSES perpetrating this fraud. In 2005 JOHN MCcAIN SPONSORED A BILL TO TERMINATE THIS DISASTER AND INCREASE OVERSIGHT, BUT THE DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP KILLED THE BILL IN COMMITTEE. (LED BY DODD, FRANK AND SCHUMER) . Don't you dare blame the GOP for this crime, it is 95% the fault of the DEMOCRATS.
Yea! vote for McCain...we need some old fool in the whitehouse ! This idiot cant decide if hes gonna debate or not...the old man needs a short nap before the debate. I don't know how republicans can be so stupid. You would think the last 8 years would have been a wake up call. I think the truth is that all the republicans are scared of a black man being in the white house. That is what it really comes down to, doesn't it? You racist jerks.

That's hilarious. I suspect the reason Palin "gave up" journalism is that she doesn't have the brain power of a Barbie doll to put two intelligible sentences together. When you're talking, you can get away with that; when you're writing, the hard print is there for all the world to see.
Dragonfly777 said: "he lies here he has no African roots he is Arab by birth"
Check your journalistic facts. Arab or not, his father was a Black African born in Kenya!
All in all it doesn't matter what Senator Obama does because he is presently being sued, for the damage he will have placed on the democratic party.
obamacrimes.com . A little matter of being a natural citizen, so when this finally comes out, oh, about a week before the polls the party will be struck down by their own blindness. So when it happens don't go pointing the finger at anyone else but yourselves!
