For Palin, "instant" karma in Albuquerque

Posted by Sasha Issenberg September 6, 2008 04:39 PM

ALBUQUERQUE -- Sarah Palin has been far from Wasilla on her first post-convention tour of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Colorado, but if one place is likely to remind her of home, it could be this city in the desert where she and John McCain will rally supporters this evening.

When he visited Alaska in the late 1970s to report what became "Coming into the Country," John McPhee compared the flat, sprawling character of the state's largest city to New Mexico's. Anchorage, he wrote, was "condensed, instant Albuquerque."

  1. Great VP candidate who understands middle America. The people in my town love her! And I'd love to catch a fishing trip up her way some day!

  1. These two give me such a stomachache any time I see them, read about them,
or think about them. How crazy has our country gone? How strong is the hate for
"the rest of us," which spews from those Sarah lovers, and McCain advisors?
She is appealilng to, excuse me, the worst and most selfish human instincts of people who love guns and limiting personal freedoms: right to choose, gay marriage, etc., etc.; people who know what is absolutely right for the rest of us, who really aren't so sure, or are at least willing to allow that there are really not that many absolutes in this uncertain world. And, most of all, her/his followers are people who refuse to welcome the poor and minorities into the world of opportunity. These are her (wait, is he really still around?) power base. I'm sad.

  1. Except here in Albuquerque, we are EAGER for change and diversity. Not much into book banning. We're funny that way.

  1. Gosh, I am from Wasilla, Alaska, just moved to New Mexico last August and don't see anything of Anchorage in Albuquerque. I didn't vote for Palin as mayor nor did I vote for her as governor. This is another dumbing down of America.

  1. Gee, whats not to like about Sarah? Book-banner, creationist, doesn't believe in global warming. Seems she is very well-informed and would make an excellent vice president. Dick Cheney's endorsement should be enough to get McCain and Palin over the top!
