Group pushes for more detail on McCain's health
With Sarah Palin's popularity, Democrats and supporters of Barack Obama are more directly raising the issue of John McCain's health.
MoveOn.org became the latest today, calling on McCain to release all his medical records. McCain, who turned 72 on the day he introduced Palin as his running mate earlier this month, would be the oldest person elected to a first term as president. And he has had several bouts of skin cancer.
"If McCain got sick while in office, the leader of the free world would be Sarah Palin -- someone with no foreign policy experience and a domestic agenda more extreme than George Bush's. Voters deserve to know how likely that might be," the leaders of MoveOn.org told members in an email today.
The antiwar group passed along a video made by its "friends at Brave New Films" that shows doctors discussing the risks and prognosis of melanoma. The video also points out that when McCain's campaign gave access in May to the last eight years of his health records and had doctors give him a clean bill of health, it only gave selected reporters about three hours to go through more than 1,000 pages.

"If McCain got sick while in office, the leader of the free world would be Sarah Palin -- someone with no foreign policy experience..."
~~~~~~~~~~
Good God, WHY cannot the Democrats see the same thing in their OWN candidate? He has no foreign experience either, and HE is the one running for President! Having to hear idiot Matt Damon say this very thing on all of the entertainment evening shows last week just shows how big the blinders are that the rabid Democrats are wearing. Forest? Meet Trees.
Straw grasping, folks. That's what the Dems are doing. They continue to harp on stuff like this, despite it also applying to their own Presidential candidate.
I am most interested in McCain's mental health frankly. His death is certainly not the worst thing that could happen. His MILITARY RECORDS are the ones that need to be released including the evaluation he underwent after being released from a POW camp. McCain has shown strong signs of having AT LEAST poor impulse control and given that even his Republican colleagues have questioned whether he is fit for the presidency, it seems worthy of investigation.
I think the point is that McCain is just too old for the most important job in the world. This country needs new ideas not old ones. Don't be fooled. vote for something NEW!
I don't care if they have the exact same experience, Sarah Palin is WAY too far religious right and has shown time and time again that this will be part of her leadership strategy. Let's get serious, the Iraq war is a mission from god? WTF? in this age of religious extremism, what kind of time bomb is that going to turn out to be? Remember this woman is and has been under investigation for possible abuses of power. WHAT ARE YOU PEOPLE THINKING !?!?
Well, Obama authorized the 527s to do whatever they want last week, and this is what we get: the obvious.
Come on, MoveOn, we expect better. There's plenty to go after McCain for without ragging on his health.
It's funny you can say too old but you can't say too Arab. I say that because Barack you know is more Arab than anything else.
I would have no problem with Sarah being POTUS. She does not have wacko or criminal friends, knows there are only 50 states, has executive experience, and is not a bigot. But I also am sure that McCain is the right one to be president and will last the 8 years.
Vote for Change and Reform you can see.
McCain/Palin '08
Good God, WHY cannot the Democrats see the same thing in their OWN candidate?
-----------------------------------
Good God, Linda! You are comparing apples to oranges!
The difference between the two candidates is that we CHOSE Barack after a very long and intense vetting process despite his short political resume. He has had to answer the hard questions about the economy, foreign policy, his faith, his patriotism, his family values, etc. for the last 19 months - and after the dust settled, WE THE PEOPLE decided that he was still the best person for the job. Republican VP candidate Palin was tapped by John McCain and now suddenly finds herself in an position to inherit incredible power. Therefore, she should be scrutinized at every level and at every turn. The American people should know what they are getting before they vote for her and McCain should stop shielding her from the media.
Does that answer your question?
Barack's experience:
- Graduated from Columbia in 1983
- Community organizer for three years from June 1985 to May 1988 as director of the Developing Communities Project (DCP)
- Graduated with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) magna cum laude from Harvard in 1991 followed by his returning to Chicago.
- Elected to the Illinois Senate in 1996 - 2004
- Elected to the U.S Senate in 2004
Not bad. He's not necessarily what you would call a seasoned creature of Washington, but obviously his heart is in the right place and he has got a good head on his shoulders. Maybe you'll consider changing your vote?
God Bless America!! and please dont let Mcain win! thats my sincere prayer!
Mc Cain is the patriot that said "THE COUNTRY FIRST" so what he does he pick a VP with no experience what so ever, this mental case along with that woman they would rather destroy our beloved country than lose an election and as for you LInda you are an idiot when you compare Obama with that woman. This really shows the true colors of this what so called patriot
Linda,
You're clearly not very bright, so i'll make this as clear and succinct as possible.
Barack Obama is a student of foreign policy and international relations.
He has a degree in this field from Columbia (I say this not because I believe that a Columbia degree necessarily translates into knowledge, experience, and insight, but because it means that he has thought long and hard about these issues under the guidance of very intelligent and knowledgeable people). popossessss
Interesting how "liberals" are free to discriminate on the basis of age. In my business, I would be in violation of federal civil rights laws if I fired anyone on that basis. The left, of course, is always immune from its own alleged "beliefs", which is why Democrat hypocrites pelted Mr. Steele with oreo cookies (in the Md. race) because the "uppity black" ran as a Republican. The one comparison the parties have overlooked, I think, is Sarah Palin to Harry Truman. Old Harry had no foreign policy experience and was little more than a Missouri politician when FDR made him his VP. When FDR died, harry had no idea what the Manhattan Project was or even the actual status of the war with Japan. Truman rose to the task, and so will Palin. Obama will not, if elected, have a chance to get accustomed to executive decision making before the little megalomaniac is forced to deal with international crises. Obama will not be able to hide among a pack of Senators or legislators and vote "present" (avoiding a decison till the coast is clear and then pretending to have believed something "consistently") , and the little megalomaniac will not have the ability to march into foreign countries and tell their citizens to "come together over me" like he did to the Germans. By the way..forget international experience for a moment and ask Obama how many states there are inthe union. Last time out the little Hitler said "57". Even Palin knows better than that.
Linda said "Straw grasping, folks. That's what the Dems are doing. They continue to harp on stuff like this, despite it also applying to their own Presidential candidate."
Right.... you are buying the GOP Kool Aid huh?
She has been a Governor of Alaska for less than 2 years, a state that is smaller than 15 cities in the US. Alaska is 1/2 the size of the Bronx. Before that she was the mayor of a town of 7000 people and there are a lot of questions as to just how successful she was there.
Obama has run a multi-million dollar presidential campaign, he is a Senator from Illinois, the 5th largest state in the nation, he was in the state senate before that.
Before politics she was a beauty queen and a TV sports reporter with a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism and a minor in political science from University of Idaho (after attending 5 different schools). He graduated from Harvard Law School Magna Cum Laude with a Juris Doctor law degree and holds a BA in Political Science (with a specialization in international relations) from Columbia University.
Yeah, their experience is exactly the same... if you come from Mars and you don't know a lick about... you know.... what a president and a veep do day to day (like Sarah Palin asking "what does a Vice President do?" for instance).
leapblog, if you really think you, "the people", actually put Obama where he is, you definitely have the Big Blinders on. The Media put him there. Obama did jack shite except vote "present" in the Illinois State Legislature. The "community organizer" stuff means diddly-squat, in my book.
He also didn't answer ANY questions during the "vetting process" that wasn't fluff. Patriotism? You've GOT to be kidding me! He chose NOT to visit the soldiers during his European tour to try and get OTHER COUNTRIES to "vote" for him. Sorry - doesn't cut it. You choose other countries over our own soldiers?
And yes - his faith. He can say "Christian" all he wants. Don't believe it for a second. Anyone who would attend Rev. Wright's church for 20 some-odd years and claim NOT to know that Rev. Wright hates the US of A and hates whites, etc., is lying through his teeth about everything else.
I suggest you read Jeff Jacoby's piece in yesterday's Globe to get a clue as to what Obama will do if he manages to get into the White House. Of course, if you're one of those people who are the "do nothings", you'll LIKE that he takes from everyone else to give to you.
No - my vote will absolute NOT change to put a Socialist into office.
It's funny how every attacks John McCain on his age when President Reagan was even older than McCain during the election of his second term. Democrats are grasping for anything. How pitiful. Let's face it, McCain is the better choice. As for Palin, I trust her more than I do Obama with his criminal friends and crazies he has associated with in the past. OBAMA HAS NO EXPERIENCE so don't dig into Palin who is only running for Vice President. Furthermore, things are the way they are today because the democratic congress wouldn't let Bush do anything he wanted to do (e.g., the housing market). I am fearful if Obama wins of what will happen to this country that his wife is finally proud of.
Palin's experience is probably a moot point anyway. How long after (and if...) winning the election do you honestly think it will take John McCain to ask for Palin's resignation so he can quit pandering to the conservative base and women and have his first choice as vice president - Joe Lieberman?
PeterfromNH....I hope that you are joking with those statements! Barack is more Arab???? If you're not joking, then you are just plain ignorant and uninformed. Just because his name is Barack Hussain Obama he is more Arab? Your name is Peter....does that mean you are a Pumpkin Eater, had a wife but couldn't keep her? Just like the rhyme?? Anyone who "plants" a label on someone because of his/her name is bigoted. Get your facts straight before you post vile remarks.
"- Graduated with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) magna cum laude from Harvard in 1991 followed by his returning to Chicago." - That fact right there outdoes ANY experience of McCain and Palin combined. The best experience a man can have is based on his ability to use the experience to gather data and use it to his advantage. A highly intelligent person can gain more from a few years of experience than an underachieving average Joe person can get from 30 years of experience. The "experience" argument is bunk either way as there will always be hundreds of more experienced advisers giving the president information. The true LEADER is the one who can use this information to our nation's greatest advantage, which takes more intelligence and reasoning than experience.
Linda, et al:
The Democratic nominee HAS met with heads of State, as recently as this July, and has shown polish and skill in his diplomacy and representing 'Our America'. These abilities stem from service in the US Senate addressing national issues and international relations, culminating from his years of foreign travel, experiencing those cultures in interacting with those people.
By contrast, Palin has meager knowledge or experience of other cultures and shows a hubris in governance flowing from her religious fundamentalism which regards other people, religions and cultures as either invalid or threatening. She is far from the Centrist reality which the Democratic ticket represents made from working background, real world experience and social tolerance; the foundations of this country. Barack Obama didn't just study the US Constitution, he taught it. Joe Biden doesn't just talk about being an 'average Joe', he rides a train to work and lives it. Simply because she shoots a moose, and believes 'God gives us directives', her experience and abilities should be above reproach?
Palins' current demonstration of capabilities consists of less than one term as governor of the least populated state in the Nation, following a mayorship, which followed a news job, which came after an undistinguished education. Meaning she hasn't worldy view or exposure. This says a lot about John McCain's motivations: he's using this woman like he's always used women.
How has she demonstrated ability to confront Washington? She agrees with Bush. How is she a uniter? She can't give a speech without lobbying a political grenade or making some falsehood. And isn't that why she was selected? To carry out McCains' orders like a waitress?
Certainly there are more qualified and better candidates, many of them women. But McCain selected this one because he'd alienated the political important religious right of his party by calling them 'wackos' and denigrating Romney.
It's no surprise that segment is enthused because 'one of them' in on the ticket to be the next President, if their God should call the 72 year old McCain on 'home'.
Americans have seen how quickly world opinion can turn against us when our leaders relate that their superior position is a 'directive from their god'. And we have seen how a hick surrounding himself with fellow oilmen... and women... can stumble into a war of no-bid contracts by following other similarly spiritually guided visionaries. How is Pain different from George W? Far more to the right.
What should concern voters now is that McCain-Palin have concerted to embrace the political philosophy of George W. Bush by continuing to misrepresent and attack differing views held by their opposition, rather than set forth their own plans for governance. Employing these underhanded tactics (and restating them in the face of proof that they are known falsehoods), shows MCain-Palin lack character and judgement to be able to do those things they insist they will do: lead OR reform.
Indeed, that both Republicans continue to support Bush methodology evinces insincerity and cynicism beyond that of Bush, or do we soon forget his promises? This country charged headlong into the Iraq war based on such behavior from a president and vice president. Are Americans ready to see invasions of Russia, Iran, Turkey or Syria next?
Let's hope Americans will elect a scholarly pair of individuals with worldy experience leading from the middle, rather than a couple of panderers who will say and do anything to keep their party in power... even if it means attacking that party and promoting more of the old "anyone who's not with us is against us".
Paul (#10) I'm clearly a helluva lot brighter than you, since I'm not voting for a Socialist.
You say "Barack Obama is a student of foreign policy and international relations. " Just because you STUDY something doesn't mean you are able to deal with it. Yes, he met with foreign leaders - because he was campaigning overseas in other countries, not in his own country.
Look at all of the liberals who study liberal arts. How smart is that? They're now flipping burgers. :-)
Oh, and Mike (#12)? Being a state senator and voting "present" means he did NOTHING. He didn't "run" a multi-million dollar campaign - he has campaign managers to do that. You really think he was spending time knowing how the dollars were being spent? No, he was hobnobbing with Hollywood and people in foreign countries. PaLEEZ.
How funny that the libs refuse to see that their own candidate has no experience. NONE.
As opposed to Palin, I don't recall any foreign policy scrutiny of the ambulance chasing lawyer and once VP nominee John Edwards .
Better than the one page medical records that Obama released.
Which only said, he was vertical and breathing.
Lets see all of Obama's medical records.
S-o-o-o Mr.Rhee, is the Boston Globe now taking direction from MOVEON.org? Just today it was released that Obama recently accepted campaign ''donations'' from CodePink. You supporters of Obama remember them don't you? They were the ones who gave the terrorists over $700K after Fallujah-Part 1.
Let's make a deal... We'll get the Next President of the United States to release his Medical records for the Obamamessiahs passport and birth certificate.
I can't wait to hear the wailing in the Democrat Party in November.
McCain/Palin has the campaign of Change...changing the truth.
Why do Christian Republicans flock to this corrupt campaign?
Here are the commandments that McCain has broken:
+You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor - ie. Don't LIE
+You shall not commit adultery - Ahem, he cheated on his first wife!
+You shall not murder - He helped kill a hundred thousand innocent Iraqis and four thousand of our brothers and sisters for a LIE perpetuated by Bush and gang...
Would Christ vote for McCain/Palin?
(If your religions are so willing to be lead by and support this proven LIAR...how are we supposed to believe that your religions would even know who Christ is in the second coming?)
I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight.....
* If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic, different."
* Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, you’re a quintessential American story.
* If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.
* Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.
* Graduate from Harvard Law School and you are unstable.
* Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well-grounded.
* If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor at the University of Chicago, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become Chairman of the Illinois state senate's Health and Human Services Committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 136 bills, creating legislation regarding lobbying and electoral fraud, climate change, nuclear terrorism, and care for returned U.S. military personnel, and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees – you don't have any real leadership experience.
* If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive.
* If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.
* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a good Christian.
* If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the how to teach kids to identify and resist sexual predators and the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.
* If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence-only with no other option in sex education in your state's school system, while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant – you’re very responsible.
* If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.
* If you're husband is nicknamed "First Dude", with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.
OK, much clearer now.
In response to the belief that Senator Obama has no foreign policy experience:
In the senate, Mr. Obama is Chairman of the subcommittee on European Affairs.
In addition, Mr. Obama is a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. On this committee, Mr. Obama has made official trips to Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
Please educate yourself.
To Linda, I think your educational level is in Kindergarten. Go back to school and study harder lady. Know your facts , so that you can 100% on the test, guess what? your teacher migth promote you in First Grade next year with Palin in the classroom. Your fisrt lesson in Social Studies would be, Where is the Bridge of No Where came from, the answer is from Russia because Palin can see Russia from her backyard. Your first lesson in Health would be, Why Should we Kill Animals? The answer is, because animals are your for our body. Hey! Palin the pig and shoot some moose. You are Idiot.
Linda, you don't know what Socialism is. Look it up. Then, identify anything in Obama's plan that is socialist. If you are talking about wealth redistribution, then take a look at Sarah Palin's own windfall profit tax against the oil companies that gave each Alaskan resident $1200. Same idea as Obama, but when she does it, it's reform. When he does it, it's "socialism." If you think Obama is going to create government-run healthcare, you are also misinformed. Read independent analysis of both health care plans; you will find that claim is baseless.
As for international experience, Obama was on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and crafted legislation about nuclear weapons with Senator Lugar, who is a Republican. This is legislation on real international issues.
You really seem to harp on this voting present thing, but if you did a little research, you would find that it is a common tactic in the Illinois state senate. Unusual practice, but one used by all of the senators there a good bit of the time. Of course, you must know that McCain has the highest rate of absenteeism of ANY US Senator this year, right? Surely, you think not even showing up to vote is worse, right? Especially failing to show up to vote on a veterans bill, right? Why don't you just write, I am afraid of Obama, and no matter what facts are presented, I will not listen to you. I want to vote for Sarah Palin because I think she seems like a "good person" and I don't really care that she is stonewalling a legislative investigation, or hired lobbyists for a town of 6,000 people, or left her town in over $20 million in debt?
None of these facts matter to you because you don't like Obama. Which is why you have nothing to say about your own candidates. You just want to bash Obama and call him un-Christian and un-American. I guess because you know him so well, huh?
As for #20, keep in mind that Edwards was a Senator, not a governor of less than 2 years:
Mitt Romney (Washington Times, July 15, 2004):
...Mr. Romney says the North Carolina freshman senator is too inexperienced to be vice president - let alone only an incident away from the presidency.
President Bush (Washington Times, July 8, 2004):
President Bush yesterday criticized Sen. John Edwards for blocking his judicial nominations and bluntly dismissed the one-term North Carolina Democrat as too inexperienced to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.
Asked by a reporter how the 51-year-old senator would "stack up" against Vice President Dick Cheney - a five-term congressman who served under three presidents and was secretary of defense during the 1991 Persian Gulf War - Mr. Bush replied: "Dick Cheney can be president. Next."
Republican National Committee (AP, July 7, 2004):
The Republican National Committee (RNC) dispensed with niceties and unveiled a lengthy report on Senator Edwards highlighting his lack of political and national security experience.
Men like Obama don't come very often. America! don't miss your chance to have him as our great leader. God bless America and all of the universe.
You've got to be kidding me..." straw grasping!" Maybe if McCain could actually utter a word of truth then maybe you could say the Democrats are grasping at straws. However McCain hasn't proven he's trustworthy enough to stand by the statement of having a clean bill of health--just as the GOP is demanding for Obama's birth certificate--the voter's have a right to review the records for themselves.
The difference between Obama's experenice and Palin's is that he has the support of Biden who clearly has expeince with foreign relations. Who do you think Palin is going to turn to if she steps in as presdient?
Perhaps a fellow hockey mom!
It amazes me how republicans continue to LIE over and over...it is so obvious they know Obama is a better candidate that they need to LIE in order to get MCCAIN elected.
No Obama is NOT a muslim...he is NOT A TERRORIST, not an ARAB. Why is it still so hard for people to accept a black man that has worked hard...went to school and succeded? You cannot honestly believe MCCain will do anything different, sadly he lies more than BUSH!
You racist bigotted so-called "christians" need to evolve past the civil war days...oh, thats right,you don't believe in evolution.
Thankyou Linda,
In your very wise words supporting the "palin-mccain" ticket i finally understand. I was very confused why a fellow canadian would call palin supporters "white trash". I was very offended by that remark...but you have made me rethink what they meant..... Go ahead vote for them...Mccain is already showing signs of dimentia...have you ever noticed how Cindy shadows him? A good friend said it reminds her of Nancy Reagon shadowing President Reagon...From watching him i predict he will have a stroke even before the elections....But then age doesnt matter right folks...lol....you americans make me laugh...................
As a republican health professional, I am deeply concerned about the prospect of president Palin. It is hard to imagine what Mccain had in mind when he selected someone who we know is not prepared to step into his shoes if he sidlined by a recurrance of his cancers, which appears more likey than not. The medical reports, which I have read, indicate only his condition at a moment in time, not the prognosis for the next four years.
There is obviously something medically wrong with McCain. His gaffes and apparent confusion at several interviews recently show that his thinking is thick and not clear. (1) He is the head of the Senate Commerce Committee, and yet he continues to confuse the alphabet agencies -- yesterday he said he would fire the head of the FEC (Federal Elections Commission) when he clearly meant the SEC (Securities & Exchange Commission). (2) His confusion over the president of Spain wherein he seemed to think the question was about Latin America even though the interviewer prompted him several times with "Spain". (3) The way he seems to sometimes "waddle" around on stage -- the left side of his face twitches; he blinks uncontrollably at times. Look at videos from 2 years ago and videos from this past week. He is obviously suffering from something.
To markm - I read your post above with much interest. What really struck me is your view of Barack Obama as a megalomaniac.
Megalomania is defined as a delusional mental disorder that is marked by feelings of personal omnipotence and grandeur.
What an apt description of Sarah Palin! Super Sarah! Look up in the sky! It's Super Sarah winging her way back to Alaska from Texas to give birth. She is the almighty hockey mom able to clamp shut her birth canal while she travels thousands of miles. She will not give birth on an airplane thus endangering the life of her premature Down's Syndrome son and perhaps even her own. What a woman!
Of course, I suspect that she knew there was no danger to her infant because she wasn't really pregnant. Considering all the facts, it will take much more than the convenient announcement of her daughter's pregnancy to convince me otherwise.
But anyway you cut it, Sarah Palin is not fit to be second in command of the U.S.A.
Sarah Palin either used very poor judgement by boarding an airplance in her condition and endangered her life and her son's or she was attempting
infanticide. If not she is now covering up a cover up of a cover up.
We can't risk her possibly becoming president. There is something seriously wrong with any woman who does either of the above.
McCain's health is a real issue. He may have had a stroke fairly recently.
My 93-year old Mom has been taking physical therapy and occupational therapy at a reh nursing home to permit her to return to her apartment after falling.
The PTs and OTs say they have been discussing McCain's health. They think he has suffered a stroke fairly recently.
never mind mccain's age. he has malignant (not called that for no reason) melanoma.
Maybe you will consider changing your vote if you know the following facts...
In regard to his Harvard education -
Khalid al-Monsour is a Muslim extremist who hates Christians, Jews, and is an outspoken enemy of Israel. He raised money and gathered personal references to get Obama into Harvard.
In regard to his position with the DCP and his election/fund raising for the Senate position
• William Ayres and his wife, Bernadette Dorn, are both unrepentant terrorists. On 9/11/2001 he gave an interview to the N.Y. Times and said that he wished he had done more. He tried to bomb the pentagon, subways, and police stations and as a result people died. He and the Weathermen were brought up on charges for their terrorism but got off on a technicality. He is a friend and admirer of Hugo Chavez, President of Venezuela. He has worked with Obama in community organizing and held a party/fund raiser in 2003 for Obama when he decided to run for congress. He raised money for Obama to go to Harvard. He and Obama have been on panels at the University of Illinois and involved in community organizing
In regards to his election to the Senate
• Louis Farrakhan is a black radical who hates white people, Christians, Jews, and Israel. He is a friend of Obama who financially supported his run for the senate and called him "The Messiah".as well as neighbor• Hamas is a large Islamic terrorist group that endorsed Obama for president.s and friends for years.
